‘Prime Timers’ Now Officially Launched! The Upper Clutha Senior Citizens Club Inc, have launched their new Trading name ‘Prime Timers’. The club was originally formed in 1980 and the committee decided it was time for a fresh new name and logo. The committee considered a number of name options and chose ‘Prime Timers’ as it reflects the fundamental purpose of the club and that is to provide people in their ‘Prime’ with social engagement and interaction. ‘Prime Timers’ is a club which offers members social support through regular

meetings, day trips and exercise classes. Meeting the social needs of people aged over 60 years is important as many suffer from isolation, particularly those with no family living nearby. Membership is open to all men and women aged from 60 years who live independently within the Upper Clutha District. The club is about having fun and developing friendships in a safe and nurturing environment. It’s been a busy week in Wanaka with the ski crowd in town. Here’s some of the action from the week: Police were called to assist staff with numbers at Cardrona Resort on Monday as heavy traffic caused issues. Please be patient, keep your speed down and watch your following distances on the Cardrona Valley Road. Police will keep a heavy focus on the road during peak times so that we can make sure everyone gets to where they are going safely. Last Saturday 10th July at about 1.00pm, police were called to an altercation between two vehicles on the Albert Town bridge. We would like information about a silver Subaru Forester with two males who had left before police arrived. The vehicle was heading towards Lake Hawea. A string of thefts have been reported over the last week. Skis, snowboards, bags, clothing and fuel have been stolen as well as items from unlocked vehicles. There were also reports of items taken from bars around town. The advice is simple; lock your vehicles, don't leave bags and gear unattended and check you have the right skis and/or snowboard before you leave. On Saturday Police dealt with an underage male who was found in a bar after using a false ID to get in. He was warned and received a $200 fine in the process. Over the rest of the week police also dealt with a teenage party, a couple of vehicle crashes, a domestic incident and some wilful damage. I was out with the Wanaka Community Patrol over the weekend as they started their weekly Friday and Saturday patrols. It was great to have them out there being another set of "eyes and ears" for police on a busy holiday weekend. While police were busy at a medical event the patrol monitored a teenage party spilling out and on Saturday one young male, who started moving road cones on Mt Aspiring Rd, found he was being observed by the patrol and decided not to continue his efforts.
