Starts Saturday 25 October Wanakafest is back for Labour Day weekend with a new way of doing things and the weekend is all about local connectedness. The Wanaka Community Trust is putting on a Wanakafest with a diverse line up of events designed to bring community members of all ages together to enjoy our slice of paradise. Wanakafest 2014 begins on Saturday the 25th of October with something for everyone. A street party full of food stalls, a pop up market plus great free local music all afternoon and into the evening. The Dinosaur Park will be further enhanced into kid’s heaven with kids activities and the incredible Puzzling World Imagination Station.

Local favourites are back by popular demand, the Rotary Rubber Duck Race, Ray White Polar Plunge, Ruby Ridge Trolley Derby and Cardboard Boat Race. For the athletic locals, be tempted to join the action at the Urban Downhill, or exercise your endurance at the Racers Edge Deans Bank 10 hour race and new in Wanaka for 2014, the Red Bull Defiance Race. On Monday, you are invited to celebrate the Rippon Open Day as part of their 100 years on the land celebration. 1. On Tuesday the 2nd of September Police and Wanaka Search and Rescue dealt with a 20 year old female who whilst walking on the Rob Roy glacier track fell and fractured her leg. 2. On the same day police attended a crash at around 6.40 pm on the Cardrona Valley Road. The driver failed to QHJRWLDWH D ULJKW KDQG EHQG 7KH YHKLFOH UROOHG DQG ÂżQDOO\ FDPH to rest in a paddock. He went on to record nearly twice the legal limit and now faces a court appearance for driving whilst intoxicated. 3. On Wednesday Wanaka Police took a report of burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. Further inquiries with the complainant revealed that they had made a false complaint and court action is now pending. 4. On Thursday Wanaka Police received a report that a caller from Australia rang a Wanaka resident asking for a security code. So in view of that can I urge that people remain ever vigilant from telephone and online fraudsters. 5. Later that day a male who resides in Wanaka called WKH :,1= RIÂżFH DQG OHIW D GLVWXUELQJ PHVVDJH LQ UHODWLRQ WR WKH Ashburton shootings. Inquiries are continuing in relation to this matter. 6. In the early hours of Sunday morning two young males on their way home from the pub decided to steal a sign from The Water Bar and then went on to destroy it. Good work from our Wanaka Community Patrol lead to their apprehension. The males were advised to pay for the sign and received a warning for their troubles. 7. On Sunday night whilst on patrol I was faced with an unoccupied van in the middle of Brownston Street at approximately 11pm. The van was found to be in neutral with the handbrake off. We managed to push the van off the road and advise the owner. 8. Yesterday we took another theft report for a pair of Salomon ‘Lava’ carving skis from up the mountain. The skis were taken when left unattended in the racks. This is just another reminder to watch your gear when you are having a break.
