Santa’s Grotto There is nothing more exciting than meeting Santa at Christmas. Even if you are an adult, the joy it brings to the young ones, makes your heart swell with happiness and love. The U.C Community Christmas Trust is a newly formed trust, a group of like-minded people in the community wanting the same thing... to spread the joy of Christmas to all, no matter what age. We have proudly teamed up with the U.C Hospice Trust to create a wonderful Christmas Experience for all, a spectacular Christmas Grotto, in the old Salvation Army Shop on Brownston St, opposite Cinema Paradiso. Santa will be at the ‘Grand Opening’ this Friday 4–8pm then again Saturday & Sunday 11 - 1pm. Tuesday 16th, 6–8pm; Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st December 11-1pm also 2-4pm. In the days in-between, the Grotto will be open from 3.30–6pm. It is $2 entry per person and all proceeds will go back into the Grotto to make it bigger and better next year. Bring along your own camera if you would like a photo with Santa, and if he is NOT

Over the past week police have received a total of 43 complaints of poor and dangerous driving in the Wanaka area alone. Thank you to all those people who have taken the time to report these incidents and we ask that you continue to do so. The Campbell Live Show highlighted some of the incidents seen on our roads. We all have the responsibility to drive safely while having patience and courtesy to other road users. As we approach the summer holidays please be mindful that the roads will become busier and extra care will be needed when driving. Here is a snapshot of some of the things that have happened over the past week: A car was unlawfully taken from Adventure Rentals. If you have information about this please contact Constable Aubury Martin. Police have dealt with a number of Family Violence related incidents over the last week. These incidents have ranged from anti social behaviour to the use of violence. Police take a positive approach when dealing with such incidents. People that offend will be arrested and put before the court wherever possible. A male was arrested after his eviction from a local bar over the weekend. He decided to be threatening and abusive to officers and is now facing a court appearance for the charge of Disorderly/Offensive Behaviour. Officers dealt with another crash on the Cardrona Valley Road where the driver was admiring the scenery rather than looking where he was going. Thankfully no injuries were reported. Wanaka’s population will increase hugely over the next few weeks. With more people around we ask everyone to keep an eye out on each other’s homes and take extra care of your personal belongings. Reports of opportunist thefts normally increase during this time. Have a safe week.
