Food For Love’s vision is to nourish our community and nurture social connection through nutritious food. To achieve this vision we need to fundraise regularly to cover our operating costs. We recently held a very successful fundraiser selling Fruit Crumbles. Over the months of February and March we received mountains of summer stone fruits. Our initial goal was to make and sell 100 Fruit Crumbles and with only one week of advertising we were delighted to pre-sell 250 desserts. 24 Volunteers turned out on the 8th April and what a fabulous production line. Many hours of collection, peeling, stewing and baking turned local produce into a delicious dessert for sale. The 250 orders were filled by 12:30pm and another 60 Crumbles were also made, these were advertised that evening to the public and all were snapped up straight away. It was a joy to

see purchasers reactions to the delicious smells wafting from the Rugby Club Rooms when they picked up their desserts. The best news of all is that we have frozen down enough fruit to make at least another 100 Crumbles, so we are looking to do another fundraiser in June, keep an eye out so you can get yours. We want to thank all our fabulous volunteers and everyone in the community that supports Food For Love’s mission. Food For Love is a charitable organisation which provides a home cooked meal to people in need in the Upper Clutha region. Recipients are nominated by someone in the community as they are going through challenges such as an illness, bereavement or other difficulties. This week saw a couple of people walking as a result of their speed. Please remember the limit in nearly all the streets around the Wanaka, Lake Hawea and Cardrona areas are 40km/h. If you drive more than 40km/h over any speed limit you will lose your driver licence for 28 days. It's going to be a cold walk. There were two crashes on Crown Range Road this week. Please slow down on the bridges and please take extra care over the nights now that the roads are getting wet and Jack Frost is visiting.

The snow has arrived and the guys at the station are all competing over the old Wanaka snow rhyme. Snow in May won’t stay... and it just goes on from there. Winter driving should now be looked at. Check the tyres, have a go at putting the chains on. If you have a new car or new to the south then get some chains. Learn how to put them on yourself as there is not much help out there in the early hours of the morning or a cold winter’s night. We have had a couple of cars that have their identity markers removed, one after, a crash and one after it broke down in a remote car park. What this does of course is perk our ears up as to wether is this car stolen? Where are the people and are they OK? Are they lost in the wilderness? So please take responsibility for your things. And let us know what is going on, we don’t bite. An incident of shoplifting was reported at Mitre 10 on Tuesday. We have the identity of that person and will be looking to locate them shortly. Drink driving is still a thing apparently. Off to court go a couple of people and some are getting a $250 ticket and 50 demerit points for blowing between the 250 and 400 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath (that’s the adult limits). Walk... run... or get a ride home. The weekend didn’t cause Wanaka Police too many dramas, however there is a worrying number of people who are drinking too much and not making arrangements to get home. If you are too intoxicated, you may be refused a ride with a taxi. Aggression towards taxi drivers in these circumstances will not be tolerated. Please take responsibility for how much you are drinking and have a backup plan to get home. Good luck to the kids doing BLAST this week. They are testing themselves against the Police Physical Competency Test (P.C.T.) which is what we use to ensure we’re fit for chasing offenders and eating donuts. We’ll have some future Police officers in the making.

MY COMMUNITY NEWS Volunteers wanted! Do you have a passion for snow sports? And would like to share it with others? The Cardrona Adaptive Snow Sports Program is seeking volunteers for the winter 2022 season to make snow sports accessible to everyone! Thanks to the support of Snow Sports New Zealand, the program has been running successfully for more than 20 years and couldn’t run without the help of passionate volunteers who provide on-snow support for people with various physical, cognitive and sensory abilities. Volunteers assist, encourage, provide a safe environment and help the guests have a great time up the mountain. Does this sound like you? We will be running volunteer information evenings on the 8th and 15th of June 2022 at 6.00pm at Cardrona Basecamp, 50 Cardrona Valley Road in Wanaka. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the program and get to know fellow volunteers.

Intermediate ski/ snowboard ability is a must, but no previous experience with adaptive snow sports is required. A volunteer induction and all necessary training on and off snow will be provided. We look forward to hearing from you.
