FOR SALE

The Wānaka Arts Labour Weekend Exhibition & Art Sale begins tomorrow (Thursday), inviting you to celebrate the talent of our creative community in its biggest year yet. With over 130 artists exhibiting, including local favourites and those from as far away as Christchurch, Nelson, and Auckland, the four day event at the Lake Wānaka Centre showcases a diverse range of artworks, including paintings, photography, ceramic arts, woodcraft, fibre art, and much more. Working artists will be creating art live on site throughout the weekend, including a mural by Shane Walker, woodwork by Joe Wright, portraiture by Stephen Martyn Welch, painting by Ira Mitchell, felting by Jill Gunn, and printmaking by the Wānaka Printmakers. This year’s guest artists are Timaru-based painter Marcia Scott and Wānaka Arts’ first artist-inresidence, Cora-Allan, an internationally-acclaimed multidisciplinary artist and maker of hiapo. Come along Sunday, 23 October at 10.00am for a

discussion with Cora-Allan about her work and the history behind her practice. Don’t miss the festive opening night starting 5.00pm Thursday, 20 October for a first look at the exhibiting pieces, drinks, canapés, art awards and live music from Robin Brisker. Tickets are available at the door for $25, or in advance via Eventfinda. Opening night tickets grant entry throughout the rest of the weekend, which is otherwise $5 at the door Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 9.00am-5.00pm. As the cornerstone event of the year for Wānaka Arts, the exhibition puts the spotlight on our vibrant local arts scene, while raising funds towards youth scholarships, town murals, residencies, emerging artist exhibitions, and other arts events throughout the year.
