Unfortunately, the Rotary Club of Wānaka advises that the Annual Duck Race down Bullock Creek has been postponed due to COVID Level 2 restrictions.
Funds raised will go to the Rotary Club of Wānaka, which will then be allocated to needy and worthwhile causes in the community. Tickets are $5 for public entries and $100 for corporate.
The best part of the duck race is having families and children able to follow the ducks as they swim down the creek to the finish line at the Dinosaur Park.
We will advise via The Messenger, The Wānaka App, Radio Wānaka, and our Facebook page when a new date for the race has been confirmed.
To ensure everyone is kept as safe as possible, the Rotary Club is postponing the race with a suitable date to be advised.
The Rotary Club of Wānaka thanks the community for its understanding.
Tickets can still be purchased and will be on sale this weekend outside New World Three Parks (Saturday, 16 October) and Mitre 10 MEGA (Sunday, 17 October) between 10.00am - 2.00pm.

Design Debunked will examine how the design process weaves through a number of disciplines; including film, sound, and graphic. Bringing together five creatives - Yu Mei’s Jessie Wong, Arma Del Amour’s Danny Fairley, The Beards’ Toby Crawford, Jossi Wells and White Light Studio’s Jen Clarke - each with a unique perspective within their respective industries, for a speaker series and panel discussion. The Häwea Golf Club was burgled overnight on Sunday, where damage has been done and cash was taken. Forensic investigations are underway to identify any culprits. If you have any information or sightings of people/vehicles in the area overnight on Sunday, 10 October, we would like to hear from you. We dealt with a family harm matter where a person was arrested. The Wanaka Community Hub has many services available and can put people in touch with agencies which can help when times get tough.

A person reported a fraud matter where they paid via bank transfer and did not receive the goods. Purchasing online off strangers is a risk. I would advise not to do it. It’s always safer to do a face to face purchase. We dealt with an abusive customer at a local store who was subsequently trespassed. Police, nor the staff, will not tolerate this behaviour. We had reports of youths hanging out in large groups wondering the streets late at night. Some of which think its funny to door knock people and run away. Reminder to parents to keep and eye on where your young ones are. I’m sure these youths don’t want Police knocking on their doors. Finally, we have had some expensive items handed into to our lost property last week which I’m sure people are looking for. One black drone found in the Albert Town area, one large toolbox containing tools and over 10 x cell phones from the ski fields. If you have lost keys, remember to check here also as the box is filling up. Please pop into the station, during day hours to collect.

MY COMMUNITY NEWS Applications open for Contact Epic Community Fund commitment to support the Epic event through to 2023. For every entry, LMS Events donates $5, matched by Contact Energy dollar-for-dollar.
Community organisations and residents are encouraged to apply for support from the Contact Epic Community Fund before applications close on Sunday, 17 October 2021. The fund was established by Contact and LMS Events as part of their joint
delivers to community groups that help out on race day itself.”
Contact Community Relations Manager, Neil Gillespie says, “The fund is open to community groups across the Hawea district and to individual residents – with no limits as to the number of potential funding recipients.
For the purposes of the Fund, the Hawea District encompasses the communities of Lake Hawea, Hawea Flat, John Creek, the Maungawera Valley, and in the remote headwaters of Lake Hawea, the two small farming communities of the Dingleburn and Hunter Valley high country farming stations.
We assess each application on its merits, ranking according to their fit with the fund’s objectives. Funding will be distributed to groups and individuals on that basis until the funding runs out.”
Contact Energy and LMS Events representatives will review all applications and successful applicants will be notified by 29 October 2021 and publicly announced shortly after.

Grow Wanaka Community Open Day and Plant Sale Grow Wanaka Community Garden Open Day and Plant Sale in collaboration with The Wanaka Garden Club. The two groups have reshuffled dates and venue after the Garden Clubs annual plant sale was cancelled due to COVID in September.
