On the day you read this, nine Kiwi women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, making it NZ’s leading cause of death for women. Since free screening came in, the breast cancer death rate has decreased by 27% – yet around 30% of women still aren’t registered for screening. The Breast Cancer Foundation does an incredible job behind the scenes to help improve this picture. They help fund groundbreaking work by some of our country's top breast cancer researchers, educate people about breast health, and provide invaluable support services for breast cancer patients.
In May, Pink Ribbon Breakfast's happen all over the country to help raise money to support the work of the Foundation. For the last two years, Big Fig has held a yummy three-course fundraising breakfast at their lakefront café. This year, they’re going even bigger – teaming up with the Wanaka Community Hub and Wanaka i-SITE to make it a real community effort. The event is called ‘Brekkie for Boobs’ and they’d love you to grab some friends and come along – 8.30am Tuesday, 30 May at the Community Hub.
