We are excited to be able to share our latest Annual Lily Bulb Fundraiser Catalogue for 2021 with you. 17 varieties of lilies and 3 varieties of freesias. We are proud to offer a new white variety that is odourless, 'Tourega,' we are sure this will be very popular. Delivery of bulbs will be later this year due to wet conditions delaying harvesting of bulbs and now Level 4 lockdown means the supplier is unable to get orders out at the moment. Take the opportunity of brightening up that lost corner in your garden or give as a gift. Last day for orders is 15 September 2021. Profits from sales are allocated to youth activities in our community. Our Lions Club sponsors young people in leadership courses and these have been enjoyed by the many

young people who have taken part in them. We also give funding to young people wishing to attend activities such as Outward Bound and The Spirit of Adventure. Our Club is a vibrant group of women, getting together, having fun every month and pursuing our desire to make a difference by contributing our personal time and talents to help others. We welcome prospective new members to come along to a meeting to enjoy the fellowship and the opportunity to become involved in our Community outreach .

However, our next concert Ghost Trio is planned for Thursday, 7 October and hopefully this will go ahead. The Trio comprises Gabriela Glapska (piano), Monique Lapins (violin) and Ken Ichinose (cello). All three are accomplished soloists and chamber musicians with diverse backgrounds and Ghost Trio has a reputation as one of the most refreshing and enjoyable chamber groups in New Zealand.

Unfortunately because of Level 4 lockdown, The Wanaka Concert Society anticipates that our concert, Sweet Chance, planned for Sunday, 5 September, will be cancelled - or maybe postponed.

The annual Subscribers-only concert with Kowhaiwhai Classical Guitar Duo, will be held on Wednesday 17 November. The Wanaka Concert Society appreciates the support of our donors, subscribers, sponsors and volunteers which enables us to present the very best of music available.

Although many of our concerts are sourced through Chamber Music New Zealand, an increasing number of performers contact us directly, many of whom are top international musicians. The Wanaka Concert Society is administered by an annually elected group of music lovers. The inspiration and work carried out by the founding committee is best recognised by its fundraising for, and purchase of, our Steinway Grand Piano, of which we are immensely proud. Thank you to those who have been abiding by the Level 4 restrictions and stopping the spread of COVID-19! I bet many of you are happy to see we a heading to Level 3 this week, you will be by the time you read this. Please remember the virus numbers are still increasing daily up North and we need to keep up good hygiene practices and wear a mask when directed to. At Alert Level 3, the risk of COVID-19 being present in the community is higher. Please remember: • Keep track of where you have been using the COVID-19 tracer app. • Wear a facemask when outside your home and in places where it’s hard to keep your distance. • Work from home if you can. • Keep your distance when outside your home. • Do not travel out of your local area - You may need to seek additional permission to complete out of town travel. • Your local area means the area near your home that you regularly visit for essential services. Although most of you are complying, we have had a few people still breaking the rules of lockdown. Some have been given formal warnings for travelling from their home address to work on their new builds and construction sites. There were several people caught attempting to sneak home to Auckland, Christchurch and one to Milton. This is after the timeframe given by the Government to return home. I’m sure there are worse places to be stuck – let’s be honest! One incident was reported where an occupant causing disorder at their place of residence and was removed. We had a vehicle collision on the Crown Range resulting in no injuries to the essential worker. An assault was reported between two flatmates. Another person enjoyed a few too many beers and was locked outside his residence by housemates who had a gutsful. Don’t be that one who misses the social cues from housemates. Take some time apart and go for a walk. We attended reports of a large fire happening on Cardrona Valley Road. We stopped people going what is beyond what is reasonable for physical activity. Regardless of your experience or skills, if you were to have an accident, would it necessitate a search and rescue response? One person was issued an infringement notice near Roy’s Peak for being spoken to for a second time about this. Remember we are still Policing as normal out there as well and have still had a few speeders caught around town. We had another drink driver caught this week. They blew 470 and received a summons to appear in Court along with a $300 infringement for breaching COVID restrictions. Be kind and keep safe out there.
