The Vineyard House is more than a winery — it’s a tribute and a continuation of the foundation built by Gil Nickel, a pioneer of Napa Valley whose vision shaped three of its most iconic estates. His son, Jeremy Nickel, carries that legacy forward by honoring the land, its history, and the people who shaped it.
Jeremy is a steward of both story and soil. With an eye toward preservation and an instinct for innovation, he saw in this historic Oakville estate the potential to craft wines worthy of its hallowed ground.
WHERE PAST & PRESENT MEET
Located in the famed Halter Valley in western Oakville, The Vineyard House is a place of inherent beauty and a revered history. The soils are well drained and full of both volcanic and sedimentary gravel, washed down over millennia from the slopes of the Mayacamas Range above.
Built in 1853 by pioneering vintner HW Crabb, the namesake Baldridge House is one of the oldest homes in the area and the vineyard itself is the jewel of Halter Valley, neighbored by some of the most heralded estates in the Napa Valley. We are passionate about protecting the site’s historic buildings, the Halter Valley ecology and the legacy of those that made The Vineyard House possible.
Across from our simple white farmhouse, a modern barn represents our commitment to both tradition and innovation. Each detail, from vineyard management to our winemaking approach, reflects our ethos: to honor what’s come before while building something enduring.

Tucked between the western ridgelines of the Oakville AVA, the Halter Valley is one of the world’s most discreet and coveted growing corridors.
Protected by elevation and orientation, the valley’s natural amphitheater shape creates a microclimate ideal for long, slow ripening.
At the base of the Mayacamas Range, our estate is bounded by some of the most revered producers in the world. The gravelly, alluvial soils and varied slopes lend our wines structure, complexity, and grace. The unique characteristics of the estate, expert winemaking, attentive vineyard management and a fearless leader is a powerful combination. The key to excellence at The Vineyard House is microfermentation, picking small parcels of the vineyard at their optimum ripeness, vinifying the fruit separately in small lots to maximize the potential of every row and, thus every barrel, in the final blends.
This obsessive attention to detail is a partnership between Jeremy Nickel and our world-renowned winemakers, Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky. This trio follows the wines’ development for a year within the lots, determining the optimal blend for each bottling.
