EAR READERS, Greetings to you in the Precious Name of our Lord and Soon Coming King, Jesus. Thanks for staying with us through 2021; we look forward to greater collaboration and interaction in 2022, God Willing. The first Christmas was anything but merry for many Jewish families; it was clouded by economic uncertainties, social injustices, and infanticide (murder of children). In order to raise money for Rome, new and heavy taxes were leveled at the people. To ensure that there was no tax evasion, the people had to travel many miles to their respective hometowns and when they got there

often they had no place to stay. It was under these circumstances that Jesus began earthly life as a man -the Word became flesh. As if that was not enough, Herod sough to kill the Christ child (Jesus) fearing political rivalry. He told the wise men he wanted to worship the Christ child when all he wanted was to kill the child. When that plot failed, he issued a decree that all male children under two years should be killed. Imagine the agony and blood shed as soldiers ripped children from their mother’s hands and murdered them; some may even have been killed in their mother arms. A very bloody Christmas.

For many Vincentians, Christmas 2021 comes with much uncertainty. In his budget deliberation the Minister of Finance laments the chunk of the recurrent expenditure that goes to pension/retirement benefits. After working thirty or forty years, having deductions taken from your salary before you were paid, now your retirement benefits are burden to government? Waaaaaw!!!! Persons who have not yet reached the age of retirement are worried: Will they lose their benefits under some new contrived system or for failing to take the vaccine? Amidst all of this uncertainty, the IMF has issued a warning of looming economic crisis for SVG. Of greater

concern than all of this is the fact that Jesus Christ can return at any moment. Seeing then that all these things are happening, what manner of persons art we to be? In John chapter 17 Jesus prayed “that they (Believers/Christians) all may be one; as thou Father art in me and I in thee”. (Verse 21). My brothers and sisters God calls us to be one, not divided over nonessential things that have no bearing on our salvation. We can disagree on food, medicine, and clothes without putting our selves in positions to be called “lowest common denomination”. Isaiah 9:2 - “The people that walk in

darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined”. As children of God, not only have we seen the light but we are the light (Matt. 5:14, “You are the light of the world …”). Why then are we walking in darkness, biting and devouring one another? The first advent (coming of Jesus) was bloody, this Christmas might not be looking bright for you. Jesus survived the first Christmas, you can survive this one if God wills. Jesus said “because I live you shall live also” (John 14:19b). Isiah 9: 6 — “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the

RRT donates to Coast Guard by GLORIAH... THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS food distribution outreach of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard recived an appreciative injection of support with a donation from the Rapid Relief Team (RRT). The donation will ensure that a number of communities across St. Vincent and the Grenadines stand to benefit from the Coast Guard’s Christmas food distribution programme. Among the communities earmarked for are Barrouallie, Calliaqua, Georgetown, Lowmans Windward, Mesopotamia, Sion Hill, Stubbs and Vermont. In a short ceremony at the Coastguard Base in Calliaqua, on Monday, 6th December, forty (40) buckets of food items were handed over. According to an NBC Radio news release, RRT representative, Mr. Henley Ward, expressed his organisation’s pleasure in providing support to the annual activity of the Coast Guard, a activity which has been in existence for more than twenty years.

The High Court of Antigua and Barbuda has ruled in favour of Browne, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s Member of Parliament for All Saints West, who was accused of two serious criminal offences. Browne was slapped with two charges back in November 2020 — which cannot be disclosed for legal reasons. THE SVG TEACHERS’ UNION is expressing concern over reports that teachers who are unvaccinated will be seeing empty bank accounts in December. Teachers had up to December 3 to get vaccinated to be in line with the government’s vaccine policy with respect to their jobs. Union President

Oswald Robinson says if teachers have no money or salaries in December, it will affect their ability to send their children to school in the New Year as well as their Robinson in a message to banks that have reportedly been refusing unvaccinated teachers lo ans, says teachers will be asked to withdraw their membership

C Licence Course into development phase THE C LICENCE COURSE, the first of its kind to be held here and currently being pursued by twenty local football coaches, is into the development phase. This was disclosed by Director of Technical Matters of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF)- Theon Gordon, who is the lead facilitator of the course. The course is being delivered via virtual and practical sessions. The coaches involved are drawn from the ten Premier Division clubs — affiliates of the SVGFF - along with coaches who are assigned to the various national teams. Gordon told the VINCENTIAN last Friday, “We have done all the theory and practical sessions from a teaching perspective … The development stage means that they now have to go and practise and complete different tasks,

which we would have assigned them”. The intense course started in October and will end in January 2022. According to Gordon, “Once we start back they (the coaches) are going to present their portfolio, which is all the work they would have completed, and will have to do demonstrations at the practices and different session plans”. And as for the value of the Course, the Director said, “Persons are now seeing a different level in terms of coaching, and all the works that need to be put in to improve players, so it has been an eye opener for them, but the enthusiasm is there to learn.. .” He noted that because there is no Football competition, the coaches are not able to practise some of the stuff to which they are exposed. The course participants are awaiting the visit of FIFA’s Regional Technical Consultant- Lenny Lake of

St Kitts and Nevis. Lake is expected to visit St Vincent and the Grenadines in January, to observe the coaches in their practical sessions and assess the overall programme. Once certified, the coaches will have one year before they can seek to achieve their B Licence, Gordon informed. Plans are in train for another C Licence Course targeting coaches from the lower levels, i.e. he First and Second Divisions of the SVGFF, and coaches assigned to the various national teams. It is the overall objective of the SVGFF, to train another fifty coaches next year. This will be done in two batches. Increased focus for female TT players THE SVG TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION (SVGTTA) will be focusing more of its attention on developing a full-fledged progrmme for female players and for females interested in learning the sport. Orville Haslam OD, President of the SVGTTA, admitted that this area of focus has been a point of discussion among executive long before his assuming the Presidency of the Association. Unfortunately, he added, nothing sustaining was ever done

in this area of the sport, notwithstanding that there have been national championships for females through the years. Haslam disclosed that a renewed commitment to development of the sport among females was made during a meeting involving Georg Silberschm of the Vincy Table Tennis Foundation, Mulabdic Samir - Switzerland national coach who recently conducted a table tennis training with our top best young players and level 2

coaches, and local table tennis officials. In Haslam words, “We decided it was about time we started to try to develop our female players.” One of the concrete steps agreed in this regard, Haslam said, was the introduction of an All-Female Assessment Competition, similar to the one currently in train for male players. Out of the ashes THERE MIGHT still be avenues to recognise the sporting accomplishments of our nation’s citizens over the recent times that we faced. There was not the usual number of events on the local level, determined by obvious factors. There were periods of intense anxiety and our landscape was overwhelmed with its fair of exchanges. It is a blessing, some might say a miracle that we have come through this year unscathed. Others might say, you don’t know what you are talking about, because you don’t know the real situation. The fact that you are able to read, glance, scan this article is evidence of your full capacity, and for that, you ought to be thankful. Look out the tide has turned in many aspects, and people have been burdened by sequences of misfortune. Fans will still writhe in pain when they reflect on the year and having seen their dreams and aspirations crumbled. Not that the intention was to destroy the human race, but one matter we took for granted was retaining the T/20 World Cup title. While efforts persist at coping with the reality, one is driven to taking the practical road to safety. But with flexibility as the demands alter, one will have to face more drastic times as the adjustment unfurls. I opted for the conservative approach to the Covid-19 pandemic. I admire the valiant manner in which many sporting entities are going about their programmes. However, incidences of persons caught in the web of the entanglement have aroused tendencies of caution. We can’t forever be stagnant and there must be reassessment. Perhaps there will be windows to package a reward ceremony for those whose are excelling, and as the tension eases, there will be occasions for more sporting interaction at the local level. However, that will not give a licence to be reckless. Measures to ensure the protection and safety of all must be paramount at all phases of the agenda. Vincentians have become used to their relaxed way of life, and this year it was typified. For what else can be done when there is a volcano grumbling in the neighbourhood. It is the hallmark of Vincentian nationhood. It is amazing the extent to which the existence of the volcano has influenced Vincentian life style. If another countries could cherish the ash fall to that extent, you could imagine the impact it is having on Vincentian soil. There were times when Vincentians bragged about the fertility of the soil. That was especially prevalent during the early part of the 1900s when the effects of the 1902 eruption were taking root. The phases from 1972 to 1979 added to the soil’s richness. And there weren’t any indication that the lava flow down the slopes of the mountain from that eruption had exhausted its enhancement of the terrain, then comes the 2021 addition to the soil coverage. It will take some time to uncover the richness beneath the surface, but we have to dig and find it. Some of the treasures will be our athletes, fortified by the explosion of the volcano, and nourished by the freshness of the products.

Now throughout the World of Professional Soccer, especially in Europe, Coaching Courses are available yearly. The sport is a business and coaches are needed/hired to work with schools, youth clubs, clinics, as well as to assist club coaches. SVGFF has hired several coaches since they began participating in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. It’s now thirty years and eight consecutive times they participated: 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014,

2018 and 2022; to be sure we get to draw down on the Development Fund. Coaches show they have many certificates, have coached many teams and love football. Many of then used their own money to attend coaching courses, with the intention of increasing their knowledge of the sport and how to develop players and teams/clubs. They don’t have their eyes immediately fixed on having a job to coach a country national team because a history winning results is what is required, and that takes a lot of experience. Many coaches here do not have as many certificates and qualifications also experience as those who have applied and who got hired, yet all have failed to get the “SVGFF Executive’s Teams” (National teams) to advance beyond their

preliminary groups. If we start a conversation as to why all SVGFF affiliated clubs, those clubs that participated in Concacaf Club Championships and the male and female “SVGFF Executive’s Teams” are not improving and failing to advance from a preliminary group. We must question their preparation along with who’s doing the preparation, assisting…. how, when and where. Coaches could have the most certificates/qualifications . They are the first to be fired when they cannot get the results required. An example are the clubs in the England Premier Leagues. But a coach will always be a coach, on the search for a club or team that can implement what he/she teaches. Readers, supporters, spectators, sponsors, contributors and the

voting affiliates, do SVGFF club/teams need to be assessed? Should they change the way they prepare? Are those in authority competent to assess, make changes and implement them? There is no evidence all the executives and who they hired can now convince others, when their clubs are not doing better than the other clubs. Confidence is what is needed for development. TAMEKA CAINE of Calder is today mourning the loss of her only child, a son – 4-year-old Kenson Caine. Kenson is said to have died under very unusual circumstances when a cupboard fell on him, pinning him to the ground and ‘snuffing’ the life out of the youngster. The incident took place at the Lewis Punnett Home, where Kenson’s father — Kelson Haynes and paternal grandmother - Alison Haynes - are employed. Reports are the boy was in the company of his grandmother, Alison Haynes when he asked to use the bathroom. Moments later the grandmother heard a loud rumbling and upon investigating, found her grandson pinned under a cupboard which apparently served as a locker. With the assistance of the boy’s father and other staff members, they were able to lift the cupboard off the boy and they noticed he had signs of blood about his body.

report on Sunday, of a drifting vessel in the vicinity of Gun Point, Carriacou. “The boat was retrieved and toured to Harvey Vale by the Grenada Coast Guard, where seven adult male bodies were discovered in a decomposed state,” the statement said, adding that “specialised units of the force are presently analysing personal effects and devices found on board the vessel, following which, a comprehensive update will be provided”. Police said they had also recovered three mobile phones and a GPS tracker. According to media reports in the eastern Caribbean island, it is believed that the vessel could have originated in Guyana where there were reports of a group of men missing since

September. An unidentified marine expert is quoted by the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN) as saying that the men on board the vessel had been at sea “for an extended period, based on the barnacles that are growing on the side of the vessel”. “This is an indication that the vessel was drifting for a while now,” the expert added. Earlier this year, Trinidad and Tobago authorities said that a vessel with 15 bodies on board had been traced to Mauritania, in Africa. “Through collaborations with the Institute of Marine Affairs, we have learnt that the vessel was reported stolen in Mauritania,” the authorities said then.
