President’s Letter

Fellow Union League Members,

It has been a pleasure to begin celebrating America’s 250th birthday with so many of you. We ushered in the semiquincentennial in grand fashion on New Year’s Eve at the League House and Torresdale, followed by an unforgettable New Year’s Day. With more than 2,400 in attendance, our top-hatted Master of Ceremonies, Stewart Mahan, welcomed the Mummers as they strutted past the League, capturing the spirit of Philadelphia.

As February unfolds, we look forward to a series of thought-provoking, civic, and patriotic programs from Founding Forward.

On Tuesday, February 3, the League House will host the CEO Summit of Leadership and Liberty, presented by Peter Madden and the America250 Committee, featuring a fireside-style conversation with civic and business leaders from across the region.

Lincoln Day on February 12 stands at the heart of the League’s identity. We gather each year to honor a President whose moral courage, devotion to country, and vision of national unity continue to guide our mission, especially as we commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The program, presented by Founding Forward, will feature a keynote address by David Metcalf, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and will mark the debut of patriotic décor throughout the League House. We also launch the Path of Patriots on Lincoln Day, a self-guided walking,

audio, and video experience highlighting where the League’s founders translated principle into action during the Civil War.

On Monday, February 16, members are invited to gather in Lincoln Hall for the White House Dinner, an elegant evening featuring a reception and a four-course dinner inspired by the tastes of Founding Fathers and U.S. Presidents.

The Presidential Luncheon Series welcomes former economic advisor to President Trump, Stephen Moore on March 12 for an economic outlook discussion.

On Tuesday, March 31 , Founding Forward will unveil a new bust of Benjamin Franklin by sculptor Christopher Collins. The event includes reflections from League member Larry Dubinski, President and CEO of the Franklin Institute, and Jonathan Turley.

On Thursday March 26, the League will host an evening with member Richard Vague, venture capitalist, author, and former Pennsylvania Secretary of Banking and Securities, discussing his new book, The Banker Who Made America.

As Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Passover approach, I invite you to gather with loved ones across our properties. Thank you for the pride, engagement, and civic spirit you bring to the Union League as we honor our past and shape our future.
