THE Church of God of Prophecy is preparing to usher in the Christmas season with something entirely new - its firstever combined Christmas production, a creative celebration that promises to blend faith, family, and artistry into one moving experience.
The curtains will roll back on the production entitled El Shaddai on December 7 and will deliver a “timely and deeply relevant” message. According to Samita Ferguson, Director of Fine Arts, the inspiration came from the heart of the church’s new leader, Bishop Woodley C Thompson.
“One of his desires is to see the body of Christ come together to fellowship and witness stories unfold portraying the reason for the season,” she said. “As Director of Fine Arts, there was no more fitting way than to bring this vision to life during the Yuletide season, she told Tribune Religion.
“The message behind this year’s production is to showcase Jesus as a
healer, friend, comforter, and deliverer
The story Mrs Ferguson said will weave through multiple layers biblical retellings of Jesus’ birth, glimpses of what it was like for biblical characters to have a relationship with Him, and a modernday family drama that echoes those same themes of faith and redemption.
The performance is also expected to shine a light on forgiveness and the importance of fellowship, love, and harmony.
Mrs Ferguson said audiences can expect an emotional journey from the production that will leave an impression on all those who attend.
“This show will bring tears, laughter, and moments where families can reflect on real-life stories that they might be experiencing throughout their journey of life.
“There will be singing, dancing, dramatic expressions, and real drama.
This production is for the whole family - not only will children enjoy elements of it, but so will the adults,” she said.
Beyond its entertainment value, El Shaddai aims Mrs Ferguson said to refocus hearts on the true meaning of Christmas.

“Christmas is all about remembering His birth and the reason why He came to this earth - to bring forth hope, love, joy, and peace,” she said.
“The production will remind one that God is a counsellor. He will bring hope to the hopeless and mend any broken heart. Christmas is not all about the gift, but the giver of life who brings the gift of peace to a dying world.
‘Jesus is the reason for the season’ will be highly featured throughout the play.”
A major part of the project’s excitement comes from how many people have joined forces to make it happen. Each of the four churches are represented whether through dramatic expression, songs, or dance Mrs Ferguson explained.
“I initially held auditions for persons who were interested in being part of this new experience, and then I was able to call on persons who from past experience displayed their craft of acting and singing and desired to broaden their scope in a
different arena outside of the four walls,” she told Tribune Religion.
Her hope is that the production will remind audiences that even in life’s most uncertain moments, faith remains an anchor.
“I want people to know that no matter what challenges they face as they traverse this journey of life, God - who is our El Shaddai - will always bring hope and peace,” Mrs Ferguson said. “Challenges will come and go, but having that
relationship with God will encourage one to pass through the test of time, knowing that trouble does not last always.”
For Mrs Ferguson and the church community, this is only the beginning. She shared that this combined effort marks the start of a new annual tradition. “Indeed, this will be an annual event for the Church of God of Prophecy. This concept ties in line with our ‘Our Faith, One Family, and One Future Bahamas’ theme.”

AFTER a five-year hiatus, the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church’s Steak Out and Mini Fair returned last Saturday and was a tremendous success with hundreds of attendees and a wide variety of offerings for the whole family.
“We are so proud and grateful to have held such a successful event that brought in the wider community,” said Father
Devereaux King, Sacred Heart’s parish priest.
“Our commitment was to open our church to all, and the motto we have for the Steak Out and Mini Fair is, “Agents of Hope, Family, Faith and Fun and we certainly achieved that. Our church parishioners together with so many others offered an occasion for all to celebrate and enjoy.”
In addition to their well-known steak and
chicken dinners, this year the church held BINGO and a raffle for the first time with both additions proving to be extremely popular.
“We are so pleased that the Steak Out and Mini Fair was so well received by all who attended,” said Tamika Cartwright, co-chair of the Steak Out Committee. “Our goal was to expand our options in three categories including: Things to Eat, Things

The Mini Fair also featured a Kiddie Korner with space rides, face painting, a mobile game room, Hoop-La, Basketball Hoops and several carnival games. There were gift baskets curated by the Sunday school students for sale, a plant stall and a craft corner with parishioners selling their works of art or creations.

“Our commitment was to open our church to all, and the motto we have for the Steak Out and Mini Fair is, “Agents of Hope, Family, Faith and Fun and we certainly achieved that. Our church parishioners together with so many others offered an occasion for all to celebrate and enjoy.”
to Do and Things to Buy and provide the whole family with a day of entertainment, great food and many things to enjoy.
Given the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have received we accomplished that goal.”
Attendees were treated to live entertainment all day starting with the arrival of Santa and his friends to mark the beginning of the holiday season which delighted children and adults alike. The Aquinas College Marching Band thrilled the crowd with their spectacular performance, and the Valley Boys ended the evening with an incredible energetic performance that had the crowd dancing to their unique Junkanoo beat.
The names of the raffle prizes winners included the grand prize - a Royal Carrib cruise will be posted on the church’s website and Facebook page.
Winners can collect their prizes at the Sacred Heart church office Monday through Friday from 8am to 1 pm.
“We are incredibly grateful to our many generous sponsors, donors, volunteers and all who attended who made this event a great success,” added Father King. “It took each of our committee members and our parish family working together to make this happen and we look forward to next year’s Steak Out and Mini Fair where we can share another day filled with family, faith and fun.”
