ACW hears story of a survivor of cancer GANDIEZE Reckley is a fighter. No, she is not in the center of a boxing ring with gloves on ready to fight her opponent, but her fight has more purpose as she advocates for those who are fighting for their lives in the battle against cancer. Mrs. Reckley, a 16-year breast cancer survivor, recently spoke to members of the Anglican Church Women (ACW) of Holy Spirit Anglican Church at their monthly meeting. She took the women on a journey of her discovering she had stage 4 breast cancer, at
the young age of 23, to today being a survivor and helping others afflicted with the dreadful disease to cope. Deborah McKinney, president of Holy Spirit’s ACW, said that breast cancer awareness is extremely important and that by persons sharing their stories help us to realise there is hope. “Awareness helps us to realise what persons with cancer go through and the importance of faith in God, support from family, friends and persons in your circle,” said Ms McKinney.

Rock Solid in their faith EXPLOSIVE talent, dynamic speakers and heartfelt testimonies were only a small part of Kingsway Academy High School’s Spiritual Emphasis this year. It all took place at Grace Community Chapel and was held under the theme, Unshakable, Unmoved, We are Rock Solid. The students and staff were adorned in their blue colorfully splashed theme shirts and they filled the atmosphere giving praise and worshipping the Lord. High School principal Deborah Johnson told students and staff to forget about school and just focus on enjoying the two days. Day one featured the praise and worship team singing favorites such as the Caribbean medley and God is so Good. Along with powerful worship, we enjoyed sermons from the dynamic Rev. Diana Francis who fired up the audience with her soul stirring message on being rock solid in Christ. Rev Francis admonished the students to choose between the flesh and the spirit. She also gave demonstrations of how the enemy fills your mind with lies and negative thoughts. Rev Francis said by feeding your spirit with the word of God, prayer and making Jesus your best friend you can overcome sin and the devil. As a result of her honest and moving message many students accepted Christ and became Christians or rededicated their life. This was only the beginning. Later that day, tenth grade student Shamiah Davis and 11th grade student Keiana Walker blessed attendees with dances that were awe-inspiring. Pastor Pratt also spoke and encouraged the students to live Christian lives an that we too can be superheroes in Christ. The was closed with a panel discussion led by Shuree Munnings. The panelist included Jamal Pratt (Christian Ed Teacher), Mr Wallace (Christian Ed Teacher), Ms Barr (teacher), Hailey Ellis (student), Alexia Turnquest (student), and Benjamin Coley (student). They

answered questions about faith, religion, Christianity and living as a Christian in today’s society. Interesting questions were also fielded from the audience and it gave much-needed perspective on certain issues that we all face as Christians. Day two was just as exciting and inspirational as the first with Pastor Jamal Franklin, a breakout session for girls and Pastor Beckles with boys. A mini concert featuring testimonies, rap, dancing and music from the student body was also a part of the day. All sessions of day two were exciting but Pastor Franklin burst through with Joseph's story and how he was tempted by Potipher’s wife and left behind his coat. He told students that in life there will be many temptations but we must stand tall and strong. The breakout sessions with boys separated from the girls were also meaningful and they spoke to the students’ identity and the struggles they face in today’s world. The women encouraged the young ladies to see themselves through new eyes and that they are good enough and are loved and that the lord created them for a purpose. She also spoke to those who were hurting and abused and spoke life into their spirits and prayed over them. After being so inspired it was now time to enjoy and share their talents and the small Grace church erupted when grade 12 students, Latrell and Analise cranked up the music and rapped an original Rock Solid song. The entire place lit up as the students performed songs, rapped, danced and gave testimonies about their life and experiences that led to Christ. Spiritual Emphasis 2023 was an amazing experience for all and one of the best. Kingsway Academy has held Spiritual Emphasis for many years and every year it seems to get better and better. This year they proved that they are unshakeable, unmoved in their faith in Christ and rock solid in Christ.

King of the Grill ON Monday, October 9, National Heroes Day, all roads led to the historic village of Adelaide where the Anglican Church Men of Saint James Parish hosted its 18th annual Father RF Anthony Roberts’ King of the Grill Fest and Competition. The fest began at noon and ran until 6pm on the church’s grounds. The day ended with a Junkanoo Rush Out. The ACM of Saint James in its commitment to national development and community outreach has held this major fundraiser every year since 2005. The purposes of the event are fundraising to positively impact the Adelaide community and surrounding areas, with funds utilised to continue to assist the community, the church environment and other charitable organisations - and fellowship and fun, bringing various branches of the ACM and other people together for good clean fun. The highlight of the day was the cooking competition between the
various ACM branches in New Providence, with the defending champions being St George’s Anglican Church ACM. Ten teams competed from St Gregory, St George, St Mary's, St Agnes, St Christopher, Church of The Holy Spirit, The Most Holy Trinity, St James, Christ Church Cathedral and All Saints Anglican Church. The results of this year's Grill Fest were: First Place, St Gregory's ACM, second St Marys ACM and third St George's ACM. The event is named in honour of Father RF Anthony Roberts, former assistant priest at St James. It was Father Roberts’ vision to invite the different branches of the ACM to come together for a cooking competition to see who was the best. The ACM of St James is under the leadership of Wayne Roberts, the son of whom the event is named after is the branch president. Brother Colin Wright was commitee chairman of the event.

A woman of substance By ALESHA CADET Tribune Features Reporter acadet@tribunemedia.net FOR Minister Kirsten Simone Knowles-Fowler, there have been several refining yet defining moments in her life. She expressed there were times that felt challenging, but through it all God was faithful. Founder of a local ministry called “Woman of Substance”, Minister Fowler said the organisation was a call she accepted from the Lord in effort to empower women. Through this platform, her desire is to leave a legacy not only for her three daughters but for a vast number of women. She said: “Sometime in 2011 while in prayer, the Lord asked me if I would help women, and I answered the call. I believe it is beneficial that women can feel valued, fulfil their purpose and walk in their destiny. "I am humbled to have been chosen by God to serve in my Kingdom assignment and to do the work of the Lord, for such a time as this for indeed 'the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few' – Luke 10:2." Speaking of her personal walk with God, Minister Fowler said like Nicodemus, she was prompted to go deeper. Therefore, back in April 1999 she re-dedicated her life and was baptised. In 2008, she was ordained as a Minister and has served in several capacities as a Praise and Worship Member, Women’s Ministry President, the Hospital and Prison Evangelism Ministry, and more recently as a Chaplain through the Public Hospitals Authority in association with Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Bahamas and The Caribbean. Moreover, she also recently published her first book called “Woman of Substance: BibleVerse-A-Day Devotional”. Last weekend, Minister Fowler was grateful to have celebrated five years of the “ Woman of Substance” movement by way of a curated city tour for members of the organisation and a special church service held at The
Church of God of Prophecy, Farrington Road. “The island tour was for recreation and togetherness. It was to bring out the best in women, empower and network,” she said. Minister Fowler said there were many women that provided feedback with regard to the tour as well as the organisation. One person said: “The bus tour was so refreshing. It was very relaxing and informative, and so much fun. The time spent with the ladies was a welcome reprieve from the mundane, day to day. I wish we could have stayed on it all day.” Another member added: “The church service at Pastor Coverley’s church was so good. I felt the presence of God was with us during the entire service. The worship and the word, and the panel discussion on faith was like a balm to my soul. It truly was. What made it even more special for me was the fact that my three young men were listening attentively, they were actively engaged, and they had a good takeaway from the discussion.” Abigail Pratt, an attendee on the tour, is still boasting about the experience. “What a wealth of knowledge about our homeland. You are definitely never too old to learn. Thank you, WOG for that awesome experience,” she said.

THE “WOMEN AFTER THE HEART OF GOD” By JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer jgibson@tribunemedia.net IGNITING women with a fire and passion for their faith is what the Evangelistic Temple is hoping to do when it opens the curtains on its 20th annual conference. The “Women After The Heart Of God” conference kicks off on November 8 -11. Organisers are inviting all women to attend for moving and an encounter with God that will leave them transformed. The event is taking place under theme “Ignited”. “God is about to do something explosive at “Women After The Heart Of God” conference 2023, said Vernita Lopez, President of the women’s ministry. Nightly sessions are scheduled to begin promptly at 7pm. The Saturday morning Prayer Breakfast will take place at 9am on November 11. This event, Minister Lopez said, continues to attract believers, “throughout the length and breadth of New Providence, drawing them together for what continuously proves to be one of the major women’s conferences on the Bahamas’ Christian calendar". This year’s conference theme is entitled “Ignited” and will feature a line up of guest speakers who will share their personal testimonies and the word of God imparted to their heart. Minister Lopez said the speakers will be ignited by their passion; delivering powerful presentations that will inspire, motivate, release and recharge the body. “If you are looking for a real encounter with God, a 'mountaintop experience', where you will feel your passion reignited for the Lord, then clear your calendar for these upcoming four days of fire," she said. Minister Lopez said after earnest prayer each speaker was selected. transformation in the lives of women enabling and equipping them to encounter, embrace and experience the fire of the sovereign Lord and to fulfill the plan and purpose of God for their lives. Minister Lopez believes each speaker will bring a word that is specific for this time. “They are anointed for this hour to deliver a word of life and renewed hope to those who are feverishly seeking release from their current hopeless situations.” Minister Lopez said she invites women to embrace the
possibilities that will come from their gathering together for a time of corporate worship. “If you are tired, if your personal spiritual altar which was once dedicated to the Lord is in a broken and disheveled state and in need of repair, if you need spiritual revival then come for an experience of a lifetime. “Be ignited, be enriched, be rejuvenated, be transformed to walk with authority, and become empowered to teach others to do the same.” The conference is free to all, however are attendees are
