Newly-ordained apostle Heather White- Davis visits Nassau for Global Chaplains’ Conference

NEWLY-ordained

AChaplain Heather WhiteDavis was in Nassau this weekend for a Chaplains conference hosted by Global Chaplaincy of the Bahamas. Apostle White-Davis, who serves as Regional Overseer for Jamaica Branch of Evangelism Family Life Ministries (EFLM), located in Brinkley, St Elizabeth and Spanish Town, St Catherine, was ordained as an Apostle.

She is the founder for The Reshuffle Outreach Ministries, which caters for the less fortunate and children in providing building materials for home, food supplies and necessities.

They host annually two children treats for Back to School, and Christmas, along with conferences where the proceeds go towards these treats.

The public is invited to join Rev Russell’s family, friends, and congregation in celebrating a woman whose life has been dedicated to ministry, leadership, and community service.

Rev Dr Irene Russell was born on 15 October 1935 on the island of Eleuthera. Her Christian journey began in the late 1940s under the ministry of Reverends Earl Weech and Earl Pritchard. She became a founding member of Faith Tabernacle Assemblies of God, dedicated on 10 August 1947, and preached her first sermon at the age of twelve from Psalm 23.

In 1951, she moved to New Providence with hopes of becoming a nurse but instead began a successful career in the secretarial field. She later joined Kendal Isaacs and Co., where she worked until 1990 before entering full-time ministry. Her service has included leadership roles at Glad Tidings Tabernacle, Golden Gates Assembly, and within the Assemblies of God in The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, where she served as General Presbyter from 2019 to 2023.

Beyond the pulpit, Rev Russell has made significant

and licensed first by Him and now by studying to show myself approved.

“I really believe that more than ever Chaplains are needed in our society to offer Yahweh’s love to whomever desires will receive. According to Chaplain Dr Dale Scadron ‘Pastors are like general practitioners but chaplains are like the specialists.’”

“This new appointment means much to me as it now allows me to go into the prisons where I can minister the Word of God and I am not limited to space,” she said. “I naturally love to help so my heart and hands can now expand to those who are in disaster situations, hospitals, children’s homes and wherever there’s a need that God will have me to stand in that gap for Him. I am trained

contributions in national service, from her work as a Lay Magistrate and Justice of the Peace to serving on various national boards and community initiatives. She is also the longtime host of the weekly radio programme Annie and the Children on ZNS, which has aired since 1981.

Throughout her life, she has been recognised with numerous awards for leadership, community service, and ministry, including the Member of the British Empire (MBE) in 2021 and an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Worldwide Theological and Scientific University in Orlando, Florida.

Rev Russell was married to the late Walter Russell, and together they had three children – Sherrie Carey, Julie Carey, and the late Walter Russell Jr. She is the proud grandmother of six and great-grandmother of fourteen.

Her legacy of faith, leadership, and compassion continues to inspire generations as she prepares to conclude an extraordinary 80-year journey in ministry.

Apostle White-Davis, a mother of three adult children and three grandchildren, is a radio broadcaster at The Omega Broadcasting Network in Kingston, Jamaica, where she hosts a weekly program called “Let’s Reason”, where real life’s topics, encouragement and prayer, are discussed.

She is the author and publisher of two books.

Faith Meets Festivity as St. Thomas More Marks 75 Years with Its Beloved Bazaar

THERE is a special kind of energy that fills the air each October on Madeira Street. The sounds of laughter and music drift through the neighbourhood, blending with the scent of delicious food being prepared and the joyful chatter of friends and families coming together.

That unmistakable buzz can only mean one thing; it’s bazaar time at St Thomas More Church in Palmdale. This year, the beloved annual event carries even deeper meaning as the parish celebrates an incredible milestone; 75 years of faith, family, and community.

According to Father Junior Calixte, Pastor of St. Thomas More, the church’s Annual Bazaar, Raffle and Bingo will take place this coming Saturday, October 25th, 2025, from 12

noon to 10:00 pm on its school grounds, and it’s shaping up to be one of their biggest celebrations yet.

“The Bazaar, which has been a staple in the Palmdale community for more than half a century, remains one of the most anticipated social gatherings on the church calendar.”

“For seventy-five years, St. Thomas More has been a place where faith meets family. The Bazaar facilitates an exchange of gifts between the parishioners and the wider community. It builds bridges,” said Father Calixte. And build bridges it certainly does. Year after year, the event transforms the churchyard into a vibrant hub of activity where

erations gather - grandparents, children, friends, and neighbours - all drawn by the promise of good food, laughter, and a sense of belonging.

Father Calixte noted that this year’s theme, “75 Years of Faithfulness: 1950–2025,” sets the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable day of joy, entertainment, and connection. From the first whiff of conch fritters and grilled chicken to the last call for Bingo, the atmosphere will be alive with joyful chaos, which is the best kind.

“The Bazaar, which has been a staple in the Palmdale community for more than half a century, remains one of the most anticipated social gatherings on the church calendar,” he said.

Visitors can expect a feast for every sense. Think savoury wings and crispy fries, sizzling steak fresh off the grill, icecold lemonade, sweet daiquiris, and Filipino favourites lovingly prepared by members of the parish’s growing multicultural community. For the dessert lovers, they will find lots to smile about too; from cakes and pastries to snow cones and seasoned fruits.

For those who love a good find, Father Calixte said the Plant Boutique and Book Stall will offer treasures to take home. “ Every corner of the grounds will be alive with flavour, colour, and community. Attendees can look forward to a variety of games and entertainment, including the ever-popular Bingo, Hoopla, and Pick-A-Prize, as well as kids’ activities, face painting, and live music throughout the day,” he said.

This year’s grand prize?

A brand-new 2025 Chevrolet Groove, along with other incredible rewards including a $1,000 grocery voucher, a round trip for two to New York, a $500 fuel voucher, a $300 BPL voucher, and a 65-inch Smart TV. Raffle tickets can be purchased at Quality Home Centres (Carmichael & Prince Charles locations), Quality Supermarket, Cable Beach (from September 13th to October 25th), and CBS Bahamas (on October 11th and 18th). Behind the fun and food, though, lies something even more meaningful, a shared spirit of service and gratitude. Father Calixte emphasized that the success of the Bazaar each year depends on the dedication of parishioners and the generosity of sponsors like D’Albenas Agency Ltd, which has supported Bahamian communities for over 75 years.

“This event is a living reflection of what makes St. Thomas More special. It’s a space where everyone, young and old, parishioner and neighbour, can come together to share in human fraternity and fellowship. We’re especially thankful to D’Albenas for partnering with us during this milestone Bazaar. Their support helps us continue a 75-year tradition of faith, family, and community,” said Father Calixte.

Whether you’ll be attending for the food, the fun, or the fellowship, church members are encouraging readers to join in on the festivities and leave with the spirit of faith renewed.
