MORE THAN 100K NOW VACCINATED ...but confirmation of 20 more deaths shows COVID fight not over By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net THE Ministry of Health confirmed 20 additional COVID-19 deaths on the weekend, bringing the total to 557 to date. The spike in deaths comes as COVID-19 hospitalisations declined and as the Bahamas reached a new vaccination milestone, with 104,380 people now fully vaccinated, according to the Ministry of Health.
Yesterday, infectious disease expert Dr Nikkiah Forbes cautioned that despite declining numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases and the positive vaccination trend, it is too early to say the country is nearing the end of the third wave. Sixty-seven new COVID19 cases were recorded on Friday and 46 were recorded on Saturday, pushing the confirmed coronavirus case count to 21,312.

PM URGED US COURT TO DROP ADRIAN FOX CASE INSIGHT By NEIL HARTNELL Tribune Business Editor nhartnell@tribunemedia.net
PRIME Minister Philip “Brave” Davis has urged a US judge to end the federal authorities’ pursuit of Island Luck’s co-founder, writing: “I strongly advocate termination of proceedings against Mr Adrian Fox.” Mr Davis, in letter from August 10, before his election victory, to Judge Denise Cote, hailed Mr
ADRIAN FOX Fox’s role as a key player in efforts to legalise the Bahamian web shop sector, which he described as “an industry that long plagued our nation’s underground”. The letter was filed on
Friday as one of many character references urging a light, non-custodial sentence on Mr Fox over the role he played in a human smuggling operation more than a decade ago. Mr Fox’s plea deal, which omits mention of the human smuggling offences he was initially charged with, sees him pleading guilty to one count of helping to operate a vessel in US waters “in a grossly negligent manner”.
