he country finally had an opportunity to honour the full contingent of Team Bahamas for their heroic exploits at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Buttons Formal Wear, in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, hosted a weekend of activities for Team Bahamas, highlighted by a ceremony of recognition at the Melia Resort yesterday. Friends, family and well-wishers lauded the efforts of the 32member team that concluded last month’s Olympiad with two medals - a gold from Shaunae Miller in the women’s 400m and bronze from the men’s 4x400m relay team of Chris Brown, Steven Gardiner, Michael Mathieu, Alonzo Russell and Stephen Newbold. Veteran spinter Jamial Rolle offered a response on behalf of the athletes to lend insight into the Olympic experience and express gratitude for this weekend’s events. “The Olympics are the apex of sport, so when you think about the Olympics it’s synonymous with hard work, dedication and sacrifice. That’s what went into everyone in Rio. Regardless of the outcome, everyone had high expectations of what they wanted to do and for whatever reason if that did not happen, we’re still thankful we had the opportunity to go there and qualify. “It’s a tough road and we’re thankful for your support. Thank you to the ministry for their added support, the BOC and the respective federations, we want to thank you all. tears and reached the precipice of sport which is the Olympics, this is held in high regard to me. I’m sure my fellow Olympians agree. I applaud you and I’m sure your philanthropic act will pay dividends for this team moving forward and for those to come.” The swimming contingent of Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace, Dustin Tynes and Joanna Evans were unable to attend due to academic commitments at their respective universities. Bahamas Swimming Federation President Algernon Cargill represented them at the event. “Rio was fantastic. While our athletes did not have the perfor-

mances they dreamed of, or our coaches prepared them for, they gave their best they had on that day and we are extremely proud of their effort,” he said. “What we can be extremely proud of is that they are a few that have dreamed, trained and made it to the Olympic Games. They can now proudly all call themselves Olympians. These exemplars of our sport represented us well. We are proud of their accomplishments and we could not have asked for a more committed and focused ambassadors of swimming.” Vanderpool-Wallace fell short by one spot of getting into the final of the women’s 50m free,

while Evans established a pair of national records in two of the three events she competed in and Tynes also made his Olympic debut. “This support paves the way for greater things to come from our Olympic team in Tokyo,” Cargill said. “I can tell you that we will have the largest team ever to represent the Bahamas in the Olympic Games and I can’t wait. Let this experience be a springboard for even more success ahead.” Bahamas Olympic Committee President Wellington Miller said the efforts of the athletes in their respective fields made them true ambassadors for the country. “It is a pleasure for the BOC to take part and make sure our athletes compete. When they take part they give us an extra boost and people from all over the world know us because of our athletes,” he said. “What you have done, no government can pay for. I just want to thank the athletes for their competitive spirit, the hard work, the training and sacrifice for your country. We can never pay you back but we are happy to celebrate with you.” Emily Morley was also recognised several times for her history-making efforts by becoming the first Bahamian to compete in rowing at the Olympic level. She finished sixth in the E final of the women’s single sculls. Other highlights from the 28member track and field team included Pedrya Seymour’s record breaking performance to make

Register for Potcakeman Triathlon before Tuesday deadline THE fourth annual Potcakeman Triathlon takes place at Jaws Beach, Clifton, on Saturday with an Olympic distance race added to this year’s schedule in addition to the traditional Sprint due to the growth of the event and by popular demand. The swim-bike-run route starts in the ocean at Jaws Beach, heads out onto the road before returning for the run along the trails of Clifton Heritage Park. The Sprint event comprises a 750m swim, 21km bike and 5km run. Olympic distance athletes will go twice as far by completing each loop twice. Following the main events there will be a “Puppy Tri” race for children aged six to 14. Race Director Sarah Kennedy is encouraging anyone still wishing to register to do so before the closing deadline on Tuesday. “We are on track for a record turn out,” she said. “We have competitors travelling from USA, Cana-

SIR DURWARD KNOWLES BACK TO SCHOOL YOUTH REGATTA ‘GREAT FUN’ AT MONTAGU BRINGING the island’s junior summer sailing camps to a close, the Bahamas National Sailing School along with Lady Nathalie Enterprise and CV Bethel Sailing Club hosted the Sir Durward Knowles Back To School Youth Regatta earlier this month at Nassau Yacht Club and Montagu Beach. “This is an event that was started in 2010 by Eleazor Johnson (captain and owner of Lady Nathalie), Sir Durward Knowles and Jimmie Lowe and since then has taken place every year at this time now with the support of the Regatta Desk (Ministry of Agriculture & Marine Resources). “We couldn’t have asked for better sailing conditions on Montagu Bay, with winds of 10 to 12 knots out of the east,” said Robert Dunkley, director of the Bahamas National Sailing School. “This regatta was great fun for all our junior sailors from around the island and gave them the opportunity to try different boats.” On Saturday, Optimist Dinghies (sailed by the youngest kids – eight to 12 years old), Sunfish, Lasers and Int’I 420’s raced and on Sunday the sailors were treated to racing in E-Class Sloops as well as J22’s, many for the first time in their lives. The E-Class Sloops are small Bahamian built double-handed sailboats used by CV Bethel Sailing Club in their junior programme.

Sloop legend, the very generous Eleazor ‘the Sailing Barber’ Johnson along with Stafford Armbrister, the sloop sailor behind the development of junior sloop sailing and the CV Bethel Sailing Club, were on hand to give away “Back to School” goodie bags filled with supplies - a tradition Johnson started years ago with Sir Durward Knowles. Also, as part of the regatta tradition, a participant’s medal was awarded to each sailor and along with it words of wisdom and encouragement from Johnson. The overall winner of the regatta was Tyler McSweeney, who sailed his Laser ‘I Got This’ to first place in all six races in the Laser Class. Another top competitor was Tristan Eldon who won all six races in the Advanced Optimist Fleet.

McSweeney broke the tie between the two by racing on Sunday in the E-Class Sloop. Gabriel Newbold took top honours in the Optimist Green Fleet, while Darrell Roberts won the Sunfish Class. Cochise Burrows with crew Matteo Alliata won the I420Class and Marcus Parotti, who has recently moved to Nassau from Exuma, won the EClass Sloop series. “It is so wonderful to see the continuation of this event and the support not only from our sailing legends Eleazor Johnson and Sir Durward Knowles but also the Nassau Yacht Club and “The Regatta Desk” at Ministry Of Agriculture,” Dunkley said. “Thank you to you all. And a big thank you to Stafford Armbrister for organising the E-Class sloops for us. We look forward to working with you in the future in further developing our junior sailing talent in the country.”

Olympic success must inspire a system of excellence AS it is no secret that most of the country’s national sporting bodies are attempting to build quality programmes, capable of both improving and expanding their respective disciplines, track and field through its parent associations is no different. This past week, the recently minted Olympics’ women’s 400 metres gold medallist, Shaunae Miller, returned home to New Providence to celebrate her big win in Rio. The overriding theme of her islandwide tour seem to fall in line with the dynamic of developing a sustainable national programme for track and field. In between the spectacle of an Olympic champion returning home to inspire youth to be all they can, Miller took time to give an update on her season and future career plans. During her visit to The Tribune on Friday, I had a few minutes to catch up with her as she discussed what it would take to advance the already successful track and field product. A product of the St Augustine’s College (SAC) programme, Miller said the growth of track and field is already clear throughout the communities of the Bahamas. “It isn’t the way it used to be when I was coming up and getting introduced to it,” she said. “There are

so much more kids going out to track because a lot of parents want their kids to have a chance at the sport.” In 2009, Miller transferred from Christian Heritage School to SAC, where she blossomed into certified talent on the track. In her time at SAC, Miller flirted with volleyball and basketball but found her place quickly once introduced to track. “I see so much more athletes, young boys and girls learning how to run, falling in love with it and it makes me so proud. We have a lot of talented programmes at the different high schools now, with recruiters that look out for young athletes and would work with them to improve their skills as they get older.” Over the last two decades, the Bahamas has earned a name for itself as a relay power, not only in the region but around the globe, with the success of the ‘Golden Girls’ and ‘Golden Knights’ teams. The focus has been on building that legacy.

According to Miller, it was the belief that she could one day be a part of that legacy that inspired each stride she took. Further, she said it is that very same legacy that she wants to use to inspire kids aiming to ascend in the sport. She claimed that while the initiatives geared toward private school students, or “kids that have the means”, there is an untapped market that is bursting with potential, waiting to nurtured and progressed. “I would love to see someone go into the government schools now, help buildup those programmes,” she told me. “We have so many great athletes there that aren’t getting the needed coaching because they aren’t a part of a track club. They have the ability though, and with the right guidance, they can be someone great. In the government schools and the Family Islands, we need to grab a few of those athletes and allow them to grow and develop.” Miller said the time is

I want to go into the schools and interact with these young athletes that are coming up. Be accessible to them so that they can see that it is about the sport and the growth of it - not just me.” Miller implied that if the sport is developed adequately, the Bahamas could see a wealth of quality and top-notch athletes emerge - and not just in track and field. “I’m trying to inspire them to be great at their various disciplines,” she said. “I want to encourage them to take on an extracurricular activity and become great at it. That is

what we need more of. We have so much talent here: you see people like Buddy (Hield) and Jonquel Jones, who are excelling in play. Imagine what we can produce with all the resources, manpower and capital poured into the right areas. “We have a lot of athletes doing well. We just need all hands on deck to help grow these disciplines.” Currently, in my opinion, the Bahamas is blessed with a quality crop of great athletes in various disciplines - from Miller in track, to Buddy and Jonquel in basketball, Lucius Fox and Anfernee Seymour in baseball, Byron Ferguson in volleyball and even Alex Cooper and Mavin Saunders in American football. From Shaunae Miller’s comments, can you imagine what we can be if the energies of these athletes and adequate capital are poured into these various

disciplines? The equation has remained the same for some time now; the raw and innate talent is built into the Bahamian genes. The unknown has always been what are we going to do as a country to advance the base points of all these sports? Our athletes, particularly the young ones, are crying out for a fighting chance. The story should no longer be, in 2016, that an athlete made it big in spite of poor conditions coming up. The time is now for the narrative to be, they made it because the Bahamas has made an effort to build a system of excellence. We made it this far on the sweat and perseverance of so many. In those two weeks in Rio we spent a lot of time, we had a lot of fun and we were family,” Seymour said. “I know the entire country was saying how proud they were of us but this really shows us how much they appreciated what we did. It’s overwhelming with everyone being proud and the process has been exciting. I’m just grateful to God for having such a successful and healthy season.” Triple jumper Leevan Sands echoed the sentiments of gratitude to the public and the event organisers. “Knowing that people care and try to do things like this and try to show appreciation is a great thing,” he said. “This is how it should be. In the future I’d like to see more people come on board and try to do things like this because it means so much to see our hard work recognised.” Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr Daniel Johnson pledged that funding for elite athletes would increase in the immediate future. “We want our younger athletes to be the beneficiaries of a real, national sports programme. This ministry has a $15 million budget. After we pay salaries and improve the stadium we have $5 million left. Junkanoo takes another $3 million. The other $2 million a year goes to Bahamian athletes. Every elite athlete gets a cheque and the

double the athletes’ endowment this year. All finalists, all medallists, all coaches, support staff can contact

us immediately because the endowments and incentives are ready and are at our office.”

After his fifth Olympic appearance and third medal, Chris Brown asked for the public’s continued sup-

port moving forward. “We don’t want you to count us out when we don’t have a good season but we want the support all the time. Not just when we have a good season but when we are at our lowest point we need your support,” he said. “Moving forward are the World Relays. We lost to the US back-to-back the last two years. We are looking forward to defending our home soil and we intend to put together one of the best teams the Bahamas and the world has ever seen. Come 2017 may be my last time running in the Bahamas on home soil. Running with these group of guys, I think the time has come for me to pass the baton. From the time I started to now I think these guys have earned their respect and support. We will be speaking with the minister on what we can do to make sure we have the unity, support and extra funding that we need.” Following the joint event a convoy took the athletes through the streets of New Providence, ending up at the Arawak Cay Fish Fry where the Bahamian public at large had an opportunity to interact with the athletes. “It was a pleasure for us to help organise this event with the assistance of the Ministry of Sports, the assistance of the BOC and the federations responsible for the various disciplines that represented us at the Olympics,” said Makeva Wallace, manager and event coordinator, Buttons Formal Wear. “To the athletes we appreciate you and as long as we are all able to work together for the common good we would like to see another event put on. It’s about Bahamas first. It’s about supporting the athletes. We want them to feel welcomed, appreciated and that can only happen by coming together.”

Mourinho fears Manchester United succumbing to pressure after 3rd loss By ROB HARRIS AP Global Soccer Writer LONDON (AP) — The footballing divide in Manchester is becoming clearer a month into the season. On the blue side, Pep Guardiola is thriving at the start of his Manchester City career with five wins out of five in the Premier League. On the red side, Jose Mourinho is discovering the toils David Moyes and Louis van Gaal endured trying to live up to Alex Ferguson’s high achievements during his 26-year reign. After opening the campaign with three successive wins, the record 20-time English champions have now lost three games in around a week. A 3-1 loss at Watford yesterday — ending a 30-year unbeaten run against the club based north of London — followed a losing start to the Europa League on Thursday at Feyenoord in the Netherlands. The miserable sequence started last Saturday by losing the first Manchester derby of the season to Guardiola’s City. “I feel that some individuals probably feel the pressure and re-

sponsibility too much,” Mourinho said at Vicarage Road. “We started the season very well with (winning) the Community Shield and three victories in a row in the Premier League, the best start that a new manager has had at Manchester United I think. “But was I thinking that my team was ready, perfect, unbeatable? Not at all. I was completely aware that we were not perfect, with lots of players who are not end products and can make their own mistakes.” Although 18-year-old Marcus Rashford marked his first start of the season for Mourinho by cancelling out Etienne Capoue’s opener, Watford surged back in front in the 83rd minute at Vicarage Road. Substitute Camilo Zuniga scored within a minute of coming off the bench and Troy Deeney netted a penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time. It’s only five games into the Premier League season but United is already six points behind the leaders — Guardiola’s City. “We have to improve, no doubt, individually and collectively,” Mourinho said. “And that’s my

job.” If not United could be missing out on the top-four again and face another season out of the Champions League. But there’s a long way to go in the season. • Here is a look at Sunday’s other games: CRYSTAL PALACE 4, STOKE 1 Like Sunderland, Stoke has only a solitary point after being condemned to a fourth straight league loss on a trip to south London. Stoke collapsed inside 11 minutes at Selhurst Park, with goals from James Tomkins and Scott Dann seizing control of the game. Another goal burst came in the second half when James McArthur and Andros Townsend netted inside four minutes, while Marko Arnautovic got Stoke’s only goal in stoppage time. SOUTHAMPTON 1, SWANSEA 0 Claude Puel’s wait for a win as Southampton manager is over thanks to Charlie Austin’s goal.

The substitute striker also got the south-coast club’s Europa League campaign off to a bright start on Thursday by netting twice against Sparta Prague. Southampton has 5 points from five Premier League games, while Swansea is a point behind. TOTTENHAM 1, SUNDERLAND 0 Moyes is trying to revive a reputation tarnished by his time at United at a club renowned for its struggle to stay in the Premier League. Five games into the season and Sunderland only has one point after this fourth loss. It was a mixed day for Tottenham. Harry Kane scored in consecutive league games for the first time since March by tapping into Sunderland’s goal in the second half. But the league’s top scorer in the last campaign was stretchered off toward the end of Sunday’s fixture at White Hart Lane with an ankle injury. Kane left the stadium on crutches and Tottenham is waiting to discover the extent of the injury after scans today.

Real Madrid equals Barca’s winning record in Spain By TALES AZZONI AP Sports Writer MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid equalled a record set by rival Barcelona as James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema scored in a 2-0 defeat of Espanyol on Sunday in the Spanish league. It was the 16th straight league win for Madrid, going back to last season, matching Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona in the 2010-11 season. Madrid maintained a three-point lead over Barcelona with its fourth straight league victory this season. Celta Vigo and Valencia remained winless, while Villarreal stayed near the top thanks to a spectacular goal from near the halfway line by Italian striker Nicola Sansone. Madrid’s victory came despite the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, who were rested by coach Zinedine Zidane. “What is important is to keep adding points,” Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla said. “We are happy because we won again and

stayed in the lead.” Madrid is the only team to have won four straight to start the league. Barcelona won 5-1 at Leganes on Saturday to rebound from a 2-1 home loss to Alaves a week ago. Atletico Madrid routed Sporting Gijon 5-0 to win its second consecutive match and reach eight points, behind third-place Las Palmas, the league’s early surprise team. Rodriguez opened the scoring by converting a penalty kick in first-half injury time and Benzema sealed the away victory from close range in the 71st minute. • Here is a look at Sunday’s other games: VILLARREAL 2, REAL SOCIEDAD 1 Sansone scored a spectacular goal from just inside the opposition half with a booming strike that sailed over Real Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli in the 25th. ATHLETIC BILBAO 2, VALENCIA 1 Aritz Aduriz scored two first-half goals to give Athletic Bilbao a come-frombehind win over Valencia, the only team to have lost all four games to start the season. Valencia went ahead with a close-range shot by midfielder Alvaro Medran just two minutes into the match at San Mames Stadium. Veteran striker Aduriz equalised with a header in the 24th and scored the winner with a right-footed shot from inside the area the 41st. “When you go down a

goal against a team like Valencia, it’s difficult to come back and we were able to do it,” Aduriz said. Valencia’s next chance to rebound is Thursday at home against Alaves. “We have to keep working hard and the victories will come, we haven’t been playing badly,” Valencia defender Martin Montoya said. “We know that our team is capable of improving and getting the results that we deserve.” Valencia is the last team other than Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid to win the league title. Cracks have started to appear and Juventus lost its perfect start to the season yesterday as Inter Milan came from behind to win the Derby d’Italia 2-1. new team in a 0-0 draw against Empoli. Hart, who joined from Manchester City on loan, had a Serie A debut to forget last week in a 2-1 defeat at Atalanta. This week, however, the England goalkeeper was a spectator for most of the match and didn’t make a save until the 63rd minute. That sparked a good spell of pressure for Empoli but Hart withstood the challenge. CROTONE OFF THE MARK Newly-promoted Crotone picked up its first ever Serie A point with a 1-1 draw against Palermo. Marcello Trotta gave Crotone the lead in the 23rd minute. DAVIS CUP: ARGENTINA DEFEATS CHAMPION BRITAIN TO REACH FINAL GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Argentina reached its first Davis Cup final since 2011 yesterday after Leonardo Mayer sealed a 3-2 victory over defending champion Britain by beating higherranked Dan Evans. Evans would have expected to face Juan Martin del Potro, who beat Andy Murray on Friday, in the decider but the former US Open champion did not want to risk his fragile body after wrist injuries earlier in the year. The 53rd-ranked Evans still went down 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to Mayer, who is ranked 114th. Argentina is through to its fifth Davis Cup final when it will be looking to win the top team prize in tennis for the first time. It faces Croatia in the final. Earlier Sunday, a commanding performance from Britain’s Andy Murray ensured that the semi-final would go to the deciding match. Murray, who appeared to strain a muscle in the third set, breezed past Argentina’s Guido Pella in straight sets in front of a partisan crowd in Glasgow, winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-3. It drew Britain level again after losing the opening round of singles matches to trail at the start of the weekend. CILIC BEATS GASQUET TO SEND CROATIA INTO THE FINAL ZADAR, Croatia (AP) — Marin Cilic swatted aside Frenchman Richard Gasquet in straight sets yesterday to send Croatia into the Davis Cup final for only the second time. The 2014 US Open champion won 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 to give Croatia an unassailable 3-1 lead with one singles rubber left to play. Croatia lost that one but it made no difference. Croatia won its only final 11 years ago away to Slovakia and will play Argentina in the final. Cilic was Croatia’s inspiration at the Kresimir Cosic Hall in Zadar, winning both his singles and teaming up with Ivan Dodig on Saturday to stun top-ranked doubles pair Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. Gasquet had beaten the big-serving Cilic in two of their three career meetings, but was no competition this time. In the first set, Cilic broke Gasquet in the eighth game and then held to clinch the set, saving a break point at 30-40 down. He took command in the second set, securing consecutive breaks and holding for a 5-1 lead. He then held to love putting Croatia within touching distance of the final. Pinning Gasquet to the back of the court, Cilic broke him at the start of the third set. Jimmy Garoppolo had three touchdown passes before leaving in the second quarter with a right shoulder injury as the New England Patriots outlasted the Miami Dolphins 31-24 yesterday. It was the Patriots’ eighth straight home victory over Miami (0-2). It came at a price as New England (2-0) was dealt another blow at quarterback with Tom Brady already out his four-game “Deflategate” suspension. Garoppolo’s injury came on third down with less than five minutes left in the first half. He was chased out of the pocket and got off a completion to Malcolm Mitchell and driven into the ground on his shoulder by Miami linebacker Kiko Alonso. Garoppolo initially got up, before going down to one knee and being attended to by the training staff. He ended his day 18 of 27 for 234 yards and the three scores.

Rosberg holds on to reclaim title race lead SINGAPORE (AP) - Nico Rosberg hung on for the narrowest Formula One victory for six years to win the Singapore Grand Prix yesterday, celebrating his 200th career start in perfect style as he reclaimed the championship lead from his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg held on to beat a fast-finishing Daniel Ricciardo, of Red Bull, by just 0.488 of a second at the Marina Bay street circuit while Hamilton took third place, narrowly ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. Rosberg’s third successive win, and first in Singapore, took him back to the top of the drivers’ championship, eight points ahead of Hamilton with six races left. Ricciardo, having pitted for fresh tyres with 14 laps left, sliced Rosberg’s lead from 25 seconds to under a second but ultimately fell just short of overtaking the German. It was the closest Formula One finish since the 2010 race at this venue, when Fernando Alonso edged Sebastian Vettel by three tenths of a second. “Daniel tried to pull one up on me with the pit stop at the end, we knew it was going to be tight but we got there so I’m very happy,” Rosberg said. “The whole car was on the edge, it always is here in Singapore, so it’s very satisfying to finish like that.” His team boss Toto Wolff perhaps summed it up best. “We nearly peed our pants at the end,” he said. “It was so close at the end, how it should be in Formula One; four really great cars, different strategies. I must take my hat off to Red Bull with their strategy by pitting him, we couldn’t do that. Ric-

ciardo was out of the blocks with amazing pace and it was really exciting at the end.” Ricciardo was only 5.2 seconds behind with five laps to go and it looked likely he would catch RosROSBERG berg, but as the ultrasoft tyres passed their peak, he was not quite able to make up the ground. “We tried something different with strategy and got to within half a second, it was close,” Ricciardo said. “It was nice to be able to push to the last lap and put some pressure on him and give the crowd some hope.” Vettel finished a creditable fifth for Ferrari after having started at the back of the grid due to a technical malfunction in qualifying. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen started poorly from fourth and finished sixth, overtaking Alonso with seven laps to go. After Rosberg got away well from pole position, beating Ricciardo in the race to the first corner, the safety car came out almost immediately due to a spectacular accident in the middle of the pack. Hamilton, running fourth, came in for ultrasoft tyres with 15 laps left, forcing Ferrari to hastily bring in third-placed Raikkonen the next lap, but they could not get the Finn back out quickly enough, and the move ultimately handed third to Hamilton. Ricciardo had been gaining ground on Rosberg, with both on the hardest compound tyre, with the gap down to three seconds with 15 laps left. The Australian looked capable of catching the leader, but the team gambled on bringing him for ultrasofts, expecting that would force Rosberg to do the same. Mercedes had intended to respond to Ricciardo’s stop by bringing Rosberg in, but he was in the midst of backmarkers, and the team feared that a pitstop could bring him out behind Ricciardo, so they successfully gambled on keeping him out on worn tyres and hoping he would hold on. Raikkonen questioned Ferrari’s race strategy as the Italian team looks set for another winless season. The Finn was running in third place when Hamilton in fourth pitted for fresh tyres can’t catch up and as the team frantically weighed up the options, Raikkonen yelled over the radio, “Are we boxing (pitting) this lap?” only to get the reply from his engineer: “I’ll let you know.” The team went for the first option, bringing Raikkonen in, but could not get him back out ahead of Hamilton.

Stewart, Storm clinch 7th seed in WNBA playoffs SEATTLE (AP) — Breanna Stewart scored 18 points, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 16 and the Seattle Storm clinched the seventh seed in the WNBA playoffs with an 88-75 victory over the Chicago Sky last night. Seattle will play at Atlanta in the opening round of the playoffs. Stewart also grabbed 11 rebounds, including her 277th defensive one of the season to pass Lisa Leslie’s WNBA record of 276 set in 2004.
