It can be easy to lose your temper in the midst of arguments with your children.
As the anger level rises, so too do voice and stress levels and more often than not, everyone ends up saying things that they regret.
The Bible often speaks about the power of the tongue and an emerging trend on social media has been an emphasis on “gentle parenting”.
And while it is natural to be annoyed at bad behaviour or be frustrated when your children do not act in the manner you feel they should, the way you as the parent respond to the conflict can pave the way for a more peaceful successful resolution.
“The verse that I turn to over and over is Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.
“This is a verse that my grandmother told me all the time and its a verse that I remind myself of daily and try to instill in my own children. If I can remain calm when my kids annoy me and if I can try to deescalate a tense exchange, it teaches all of us, the importance of being being respectful and good communication skills,” says Michelle, a mom of three.
“It's not always easy, but we can only do our best.”
Another verse that can encourage people to mind their words is Proverbs 29:11 - A fool uttereth all of his mind, but a wise mind keepeth it in til afterwords.”
“I am always telling my kids- you don’t have to always answer back, you don’t have to just jump up and say whatever comes to mind, think before you speak and weigh the consequences of your words. It is so hard because my kids always think they know everything and sometimes they plain don’t know when to just shut up,” says Thelma of her twin teen sons.
Brianna, mom of four, says the challenge in her
home is that everyone wants to get their point across, because they believe that they are right.
“I have to think about James 1:19 all the time. It says 'Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath'.”
She added: "This is a big one in our house, my kids always tell me I just want row and I don’t listen to them even when they approach me in what they feel is a reasonable tone. As parents sometimes we just assume that we are right, but it has been a big lesson for me to learn to listen and comprehend what my kids are telling me.”

WHAT can be more valuable profitable than silver or gold? According to The book of Proverbs in the Holy Bible, wisdom is more profitable than precious stones could ever be.
Proverbs 3:13-14: “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.”
Many people will jump at the opportunity to gain gold, silver, cryptocurrency and money when stacked against a choice of wisdom. However, for Christian faithful whose final authority is the word of God have a different way of thinking and approach.
For them they are encouraged to get wisdom and understanding - two intangibles that hold great value in their Christian journey.
currency today. But back in those days silver and gold was the currency of the day.
“Also, one of the things that tempt people to disregard God and his word a lot of the time have to do with money. Money can drive you to do certain things and make certain decisions that goes directly against the plan and will of God.”
against what I felt on the inside. Months later after, the company that made the lucrative offer shut down. I vow to never go against wisdom which is seeking God first, taking inventory of what I am feeling on the inside,” he said.
take knowledge and apply it to your life in a such a way that adds meaning and promotes the common good.
Dhalia Munroe said the scripture highlights the value of wisdom so much because wisdoms see things from all perspectives.
Tribune Religion spoke to several Christians regarding the application of this proverb to their daily lives and what it means to them.
Donald Major said since becoming a Christian four years ago he has been adamant about gaining knowledge and wisdom about how he can live life practically. He said what he has been learning, is that he should place greater value on God and his wisdom over everything especially money.
“The gold and silver that this scripture refers to represents currency really. In today’s society we use money as our
Wisdom is not only considered having knowledge, but the ability to use knowledge and apply it to life circumstances. And according to the bible the source of wisdom is God.
Donald said he has before been at a cross work when it came to a decision he had to make about his career.
“I work in the financial field and got an offer that was so good….thousands more than what I was currently making. It was a pay increase, a promotion and an offer that just about anyone would not be able to refuse. However, I felt a check in my spirit…an unction and a lack of peace. While I wanted to say yes because the opportunity was so lucrative, I had to pause. God said that he would lead us from the inside and I just did not have peace about the offer.
“Some people may say ‘well it was unwise to turn down the offer that could have really put me in different financial bracket' but truthfully, I made the wise choice by not going
Tamara Poitier told Tribune Religion that this Scripture is her favourite especially because it addresses the relationship Christians should have with money.
“We are to never exalts money, or riches of God and his word. His word is wisdom. His word brings light and understanding. If we value his word and wisdom above all things, he will show us how to get wealth the right way.
Knowing facts about God and the Bible is not all there is to wisdom. Wisdom is a gift from God. James 1:5 states, ‘If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.’ God blesses us with wisdom in order for us to glorify Him and use the knowledge we have of Him.
“Wisdom isn’t about what you know. It’s about how you see. Wisdom happens when you
“When you make wise decisions, you keep your immediate needs in mind, along with holding long-term perspectives. This is key to making choices that bring you joy. In addition, wisdom allows you to make better contributions to your community by balancing your needs and boundaries with those of others.”
Travis Butler said: “If you want what’s best for your soul, it starts with making wise decisions. You have to value wisdom over everything else. Far too many people find themselves in debilitating situations simply because they have not chosen the wise route instead they chose the route that seem right in the short term but in the long term did not have the best outcome.”

Underthe theme "The Transformative Power of God : Back-to-School Edition", Rev Stephen Smith and the Ebenezer Family in Exuma hosted an exciting, informative and practical session for the parents, teachers and students.
The edifice was beautifully decorated for the students with inflatable pencils, balloons and a specially designed eye candy stand alone folder sheet.
The event took the form of a talk show hosted by Krivoy Smith, wife of Pastor Smith and District Education Officer for the Ministry of Education. The guest presenters during the show were Senior Mistress Abigail Sullivan of St Andrew's Anglican School Primary Department, Educator Deborah Greene of LN Coakley High School and Guidance Councillor Denika Curtis of St Andrew's Anglican School.
All presenters made profound points of admonition to parents, guardians, teachers and students. We must be mindful of the words
whether positive or negative we as teachers say to our students, said Sullivan, because those words stick with students even into adulthood and help to either build them up or tear them down.
Curtis reminded students to always seek God in all of their decisions. She said that there is an answer or solution found in the Bible for every challenge we may face in life.
With regards to academic achievement and development Greene reminded those in the audience that each child has natural talents and may sometimes have proclivity to trade and hands on versus books. She said no child is dumb but their skills must be enhanced for development. Smith referenced the resources that are currently on island be it Bahamas Technical and Vocational
Institute (BTVI) or The National Training Agency (NTA).
Smith declared that the 2025/2026 School Academic Year will be dynamic with the the transformative power of God. There was a question and answer period for all in attendance.
All in attendance were very attentive engaged in the discussion. Students received tangible gifts in the form of lunch money for the week, school supplies, as well as delightful refreshments. Visiting teachers and parents received $50 grocery vouchers.
Special mention of Alphonso Major Jr, director of the Anglican Central Education Authority (ACEA), principal Tamara Moncur of St Andrew's Anglican School, Jasmine Nixon, teacher/acting principal of Exuma School for the Exceptional Learners, as well as Pastor Matt Adams, First Presbyterian Church Dillon South Carolina, Mayor of Dillon, SC Nicholas Tally McColl, Dillon SC Chief of Police Captain David Lane and their families.

ABUNDANT Life Bible Church is stepping into the spotlight with the premiere of its firstever feature film, Surrender, set to debut later this month.
The production, which received an “A” rating (All Audiences) from the Bahamas Plays and Film Control Board, will debut on Friday, September 26, at 7pm and again on Sunday, September 28, at 6pm at Abundant Life Bible Church on Abundant Life Road.
According to a release from PR representative Travis Edgecombe of Edgy Management, at the heart of the film story is Nina, a bright high schooler with her sights set on academic success and a university scholarship.
When she senses God’s call to the mission field, a single, life-altering event threatens to upend
her carefully laid plans. The film then leans into a universal tension; how personal ambition can collide with divine purpose, and encourages viewers to consider what it means to truly yield.
Mr Edgecombe said the project reflects Abundant Life’s long-standing commitment to creative outreach.
“Abundant Life Bible Church is pulpit-driven and centred around the Gospel of Jesus Christ, with a mission to share the good news in dynamic and creative ways,” he said.
Under co-pastors Cranston Knowles and Gil Maycock, the church has built a vibrant ministry that shares the Gospel in
dynamic ways, from the pulpit to the stage and now the screen.
“For years, ALBC has captivated audiences with successful stage plays. The natural next step was to move into film, and Surrender was born out of that vision. Produced over ten months, the film brought together a multi-generational cast and crew, all members of the Abundant Life congregation,” said Mr Edgecombe.
As the church approaches its 46th anniversary in November, Surrender marks the beginning of a new chapter in its arts ministry, with plans to pursue additional films to further advance the Gospel message.
Tickets are $15 and available at the church office, Monday through Friday, 9am–3pm. For details, visit abundantlifebahamas.org, call 393-8134/0755, or email info@albcm.org. Updates are also shared on the church’s Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube pages.
