CHURCH FULFILS ‘GREAT ASSIGNMENT’ A call to TO BRING SOULS TO GOD IN ANDROS prayer BY JEFFARAH GIBSON | TRIBUNE FEATURES WRITER | JGIBSON@TRIBUNEMEDIA.NET THROUGH Prophet Leo Adderley’s travelling evangelism ministry, many people have given their life to Christ, but with few places to worship, most of them remain unchurched. To address this issue, Prophet Adderley said he felt led by God to begin the groundwork for the opening of Great Assignment Kingdom Ministries in Calabash, Andros. It will join the family of Great Assignment churches in Nassau, Exuma and Texas. The Andros branch officially opened in December and held an open house service this past Sunday. The service included the enrolment of 92 members, inclusive of 13 founding members: Prophet Leo Adderley, Minister Anthony Forbes, Donna Stubbs, Mckallan PROPHET LEO ADDERLEY Stubbs, Sharmaine Scott, Minister Maryann Brown, Minister Joy Nesbitt, Irvin Mackey, Georgette Mackey, Marisma McDonald, Kedrick Knowles, Glenroy Johnson and Vanessa Moss. “I travelled every island of the Bahamas for the past four years under my evangelism ministry, Change Bahamas. Andros was one of the first islands we started the evangelism ministry. During those revival services in Andros many persons gave their lives to Christ, but remained unchurched. The Lord spoke to me about a year and a half ago and told me to start a work down there to provide a safe haven for his people,” Prophet Adderley told Tribune Religion. The vision of the church is “restoring a hurting generation back to God.” “I realise that the harvest is ripe but labourers are few. Our immediate focus
is to continually educate, equip and train those who have become members to make more disciples for the Kingdom of God,” he said.During the COVID-10 pandemic, the ministry supplied weekly breakfasts and lunches to the communities in Andros, Exuma and Nassau and by distributed grocery parcels on those islands as well. “We extended some of our feeding initiatives to the islands of Grand Bahama and the Berry Islands, feeding over 14,000 people during the pandemic. We believe that small things done with great love can change the world. These feeding initiatives will continue throughout this year,” said Prophet Adderley. The church also adopted the Fresh Creek Primary School at the beginning of the school semester. It now serves free hot breakfast and helps promote other initiatives for the school, teachers and students. “We look forward to a continued
relationship with this school and principal, Mrs Lavern Curtis,” he said. The church is also hosting its first Vacation Bible School that will run July 20 - 24 on the church’s grounds, and its basketball camp, which will be held July 27 -31 at the Fresh Creek Primary School’s basket ball court. “All of these events are free and open to all. Moreover and most importantly, we want to continue with our efforts in reaching out to meet and assist with other social needs in the communities of Andros, as well as mobilising evangelistic initiatives to draw as many souls to Christ as we possibly can,” he told Tribune Religion.
A NEW programme geared towards encouraging people to pray will be hosted by Minister Patrice Bain this weekend. “When People Pray” will be aired this on July 5, beginning at 5pm for 30 minutes on 107.9 FM. The host, Minister Bain of Prayer Works International, attends the Church of God of Prophecy, Carmichael Road. The programme, she said, will be spirit-driven and rewarding. “ ‘When People Pray’ is a new programme designed to empower, motivate and inspire you to pray. It comes in a time when the world is faced with COVID-19, earth quakes, strange happenings that could easily bring panic and stress on an individual. Disappointments, despair, fear and doubt can draw one to think ‘Who and what can I turn to’,” she said, “Prayer is communication to God. Prayer reaches the very throne room of God to procure miracles for impossible situations. Prayer is the vehicle that moves the heart of God. Prayer works. When people pray, things began to happen. When people pray, lives are changed. When people pray, spirits are lifted. When people pray, regions and nations are shifted. Prayer is critical in our everyday lives.” Minister Bain said she will echo the power of prayer to those who tune into the programme. “Prayer is a mandate given by the Holy Spirit to one who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ to petition on and wait for the manifestation. Prayer will shake the foundations of a nation. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says: ‘If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land’.”

All hands on deck IT’S TIME for “all hands on deck, down with knees and up with necks,” according to the founder of the new National Organisational Development Connections International (NODCI), Cheryl Alicia Walkine-Alexandre, pictured. The institution, which is dedicated to self-reliance and family life education, is asking Bahamians to come together in prayer for the country as we start to reopen our borders. “Please pray with your family in your respective homes at 3pm on Sunday,” she said. “As we prepare to make an extremely audacious move in opening our nation’s borders ... after an unprecedented, extensive period of COVID-19 lockdowns and curfews, we must recognise that contributing to the temporal and spiritual restoration of our economy and prosperity of our nation lies not in one man or one organisation or one government but all hands must be on deck. It is not about
RELIGION blaming the government or anyone else, it is about commissioning the God-given power of unity we all have within us, as His spirit children, heirs, individuals, families, church, community, nation and world organisations. However, in order to effectively and confidently facilitate this, we must strengthen our ultimate, supreme connection with our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ our Lord, Saviour and Redeemer.” Mrs Walkine-Alexandre added: “As a Christian nation, this is not foreign to us. We know from whence cometh our help: ‘Our help cometh from the Lord who made Heaven and earth.’ We have learned by disheartening and frustrating experience from the global, shocking effects of this health pandemic that we cannot depend solely on doctors, scientists, governments, industries, economies, officials, celebrities, business organisations, world leaders, sanitisers or masks for our own safety. We feel they have all failed us because we have put our trust in them unjustly and not sufficiently in God.” She said it is time for us all to humbly get down on our knees to pray, “thanking Almighty God mightily and earnestly for His abundant goodness and exceeding mercy on this nation thus far, through all the calamities and plagues we have
experienced in yesteryear, most recently Hurricane Dorian, and the looming and continuing COVID-19 in the hurricane season which poses national, economic destructive and terminating possibilities. “We as Bahamians and residents of our beloved country must plead His to cover on our families, loved ones, people, and

However, we must also have, like David, the heart of peace, mind of victory, might of God and the humility of our Saviour.”

ROWING up, Utah TaylorRolle led a troubled life. He rebelled and he joined gangs. At the root of all this bad behaviour, the 46-year-old former entertainer told Tribune Religion, was the absence of his biological father in his life. Eleven years ago he finally found his father, and God in process. Mr Taylor-Rolle, best known for his TV show “Controversy TV” and producing music videos for local and international artists, is now a senior pastor at a local church. “After two DNA tests 11 years ago, I found my father who at that time was the deputy superintendent of Her Majesty’s Prisons and also the senior pastor of Mount Nebo Union Baptist Church. I went to the church to establish a long awaited relationship with (my father) Rev Dr Charles E Rolle, and while there... for about 12 years... I answered the call of God and was consecrated an apostle. Shortly after that I was offered the post of senior pastor of the New Oasis of Love Kingdom Ministries, which I accepted. I accepted the call and gave my life to Christ in 1996, but never lived the call until I found my father,” he said. The new-found relationship with his father also led him writing his first book called “The Tears I Cried.” Mr TaylorRolle said the book is now being used in local schools, in classes at the University of the Bahamas, and by various organisations around the world. He further used his experienced of reconnecting with his dad to start the Find Your Father Foundation (FYFF), to help others who may be going through the same ordeal he did. He is currently working on the release of his second book, entitled “A Cry for Help – From the Pit to the Pulpit”, which is scheduled for sometime in September. This this second book he hopes of help even more wayward young men find a purpose in their lives. The presence of a father in a young man’s life is of immense importance, Mr Taylor-Rolle said. “Even if my father was the biggest crook or a drug dealer, I would’ve still felt a sense of fulfilment of my identity. Everyone deserves to know who they are. And in order for you to build on who you ought to be, you first need to know who you are. So it is extremely important to have a father in your life; someone who can help you in knowing

Even if they don’t live an admirable life, you can say, ‘Let me see if I can do better than who he is’. In my case, I had some big shoes to fill, because on my father’s family side my uncle was a former deputy commissioner of police, my father a deputy superintendent, and another uncle was an acting commodore. So here it is now, I have to live up to the Rolle name. I am passionate when it comes to this; either you want to be like your father or you want to be better than him. I was acting out because I didn’t know who I was so I had to get some kind of attention some way, “ he said. On Father’s Day this year, he reached yet another milestone as he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Theology from the Grace International Bible University. “It really made me feel good because during my high school graduation I was unable to walk. I thought I was man and I didn’t go straight home after my high school prom. I slept the night out so my mom took away my graduation clothes. I still remember the song that played during the graduation called ‘From a Distance.’ I held on to that for 30 plus years and this
past June I was able to close that chapter. Like Joshua, my favourite saying is ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord’. I celebrate this new honour with my queen, Lady Valarina; children Udaijah, Cairo, Utah Jr, Sierra Leone, and the New Oasis of Love Kingdom Ministries,” he said. Mr Taylor-Rolle is now in the process of obtaining a Masters in Theology. Going forward, he said although his congregation is back in church, he and his
family will also continue to hosts their virtual services they started during lockdown. “We now have a lot of virtual members all over the world who still continue to tune in and want to be a part of the New Oasis of Love Kingdom Ministries. So the same way we were hosting from home, we now have it set up with a screen while in church. That is going to be forever, and we are also thinking of ways to build on that and expand,” he said.
