MUM AND UNCLE SHOT DEAD 24 HOURS APART Shavonna, 27, gunned down as family united to mourn earlier killing By LEANDRA ROLLE Tribune Staff Reporter lrolle@tribunemedia.net A SINGLE mother was fatally shot in the Coconut Grove area on Friday night, a day after her uncle was killed at the same address. A close relative has identified the deceased woman as 26-year-old Shavonna Adderley, a mother of a seven-year-old boy. Her uncle was identified as Gladstone Francis, Jr. They were two of four people shot in two separate incidents outside the

same home. According to police reports, sometime around 8pm Friday, a group of people were gathered outside a home on First Street, the Grove when a small vehicle pulled up. Police said three armed men got out of the vehicle and fired shots in the group’s direction, resulting in a man and woman being injured. As a result, both were taken to hospital. TOURISM was yesterday said to be “bouncing back with a vengeance” with 13,000 cruise visitors expected in the week before Independence and Nassau’s mega resorts reporting occupancies of up to 90 percent. Tourism Minister Dionisio said “we’re bringing tourism back” as the relaxation of international travel restrictions and the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccinations gave people confidence to again vacation abroad. Describing The Bahamas as “a destination of choice” for Americans, Mr D’Aguilar said Atlantis and Baha Mar resorts had enjoyed weekend occupancy rates of 90 percent and 75 percent, respectively. ABACO stakeholders yesterday voiced hope that the Government is not too late to “dodge a bullet” with plans to seek a publicprivate partnership for the rebuilding of Marsh Harbour’s sea port. Ken Hutton, the island’s Chamber of Commerce president, reiterated fears that the proposal may not come in time to sustain the port’s ongoing post-Dorian
waiver from having to comply with global maritime security standards implemented after the September 11, 2001, terror attacks. He said a US Coast Guard and International Maritime Organisation inspection of Marsh Harbour’s port is due next month, with the facility having received little to no repairs since it was “completely devastated” by Hurricane Dorian in September 2019. He said he was upstairs unwinding when their tenyear-old daughter came to him crying and said, “Mummy got shot.” Mr Curry said their daughter was outside with his wife when the shots rang out. PROGRESSIVE Liberal Party Leader Philip “Brave” Davis says he will immediately end the travel health visa requirement if the system is still in place and his party wins the next general election. “The travel visa is an unnecessary tax imposed by the FNM government on Bahamians families and businesses when they can least afford it,” the party said in a statement yesterday. “The PLP does not believe Bahamians should be charged to travel within their own country, nor should Bahamians be charged to return home after travelling abroad.
