HE time spent at home these past few months during quarantine has proved to be reflective one for many Bahamians, including local gospel artist Gesner “Mr J” Dalmond, whose new song is based on his contemplations during lockdown. “Only You God” is a collaboration between Mr J and artist Veola Sophie, and is based on conclusions the artists have come to regarding God and faith. “The song was inspired by the title of the project compilation (Deep Waters Riddim) and the feel of the instrumental which it is featured on. Jamcore Productions, a US-based, label invited me to be a part of the compilation. The title caused me to reflect on so many calamities and atrocities that happen every day. These being so prevalent and unresolvable by man, the only conclusion is God. Hence the title, ‘Only You God’,” the singer told Tribune Religion. Living through the current coronavirus pandemic, Mr J said he now believes more than ever that only God can deliver. “The song’s message is that God is the only one who can help and save us from all calamities, whether we are victims or survivors. He has the whole world in His hands. Not us. Therefore, we must all make a conscious decision to get to know God for ourselves,” he said. Since the song’s release it has been

This conference will be streamed live on Zoom and Facebook. The purpose of this conference is to mentor, encourage and inspire women who feel discouraged, lost, rejected and frustrated. The conference aims to assist these women by helping them on a journey of discovering who they are in Christ as they walk into their destiny. T IS reasonable for one to become despondent and discouraged when life presents us with less than stellar circumstances. However, it is important to remain focused on our goals and stay the course. If we remain “stayed on thee”, (Isaiah 26:3 KJV) He will grant us peace and strengthen us. Proverbs 4:25 KJV states: “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.” It can require a good deal of self-control and dedication to remain focused when we have challenges, but we must. This is not optional and as belivers in Christ we look to our faith and spiritual walk with God. Colossians 3:2 KJV tells us, “set your affection on things above, not on the things on the earth.” Holy scripture is providing an invaluable prescription to face our difficulties, which we should not ignore. Far too often we leave God out of the equation and try to resolve issues on our own. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”(Psalm 24:1 KJV) It would seem foolhardy not to set our sights on God when we are caught in the storms of life. The Apostle Paul reminded us in Philippians 4:13 KJV that “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Staying the course is critical if we are to overcome our challenges, and we do so with God’s help. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 3:5 KJV: “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.” We should constantly be on guard against negative thoughts which might enter our minds and seek to thwart our

attempt to stay the course. 1 Peter 5:8 KJV admonishes us to “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” Satan is busy, and always at work. To stay the course we must never prejudice our relationship with God, nor question His faithfulness. We should immerse ourselves in God’s word, and “pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV) Psalm 1:1 KJV tells us “blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Amen. Thanks be to God for the sharing of His word.

What is your experience of Jesus in your own life?

They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10: 7-10 NIV). 3. The shepherd who takes care of you and provides for you: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me - just as the Father knows me and I know the Father - and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10: 11-15 NIV). 4. The living water that quenches your thirst for everything other than God: “On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant

the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.” (John 7:37-39 NIV). 5. The alpha and omega as the only one we need to save us: “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelations 1: 8 NIV). 6. The bread of life who nourishes our spirit: “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will

raise them up at the last day.’” (John 6:35-40 NIV). 7. The light which dispels all darkness in your life: “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” (John 8:12 NIV). If any of these statements, experiences or images are not familiar to you, now is the time to spend more time intentionally seeking out information, explanation and revelation. We are all called to be informed disciples who can try to answer the questions of others even as we seek answers for ourselves. This is the time for active ministry to those who are trying to make sense of the major tragedies of the last two years. We do not have all of the answers but we can share who Jesus is for us. Good moms leave legacies FOR the entire month of May, in the paper, as well as in my video series, we’ve celebrated the wonderful words of wisdom we learned from our mothers. It seems that not a day goes by that I don’t pass on some wise saying to a teen who needs to be disciplined; or as a passing joke with friends who are also reminiscing of their mom’s proverbs. But this week, I end with one saying from my mom that has stayed with me and affected me in a “forever” kind of way. My mom was a fighter, to the very end. She fought to raise us girls with pride and confidence. She ingrained discipline and dedication in us in a way that many great moms do. And even up to the very end of her life, she continued doing the same. One bit of instruction though I left with Mom and Mom alone. I asked her not to give up. I requested that she keep trying. And do you know what? She did. In her final week she left me a message, some of the most powerful words that I have ever heard. No preacher, sermon, book could ever change me so profoundly as those few words: “Tell Ayanna I walked today!” There it is. The simplest of sentiments. Means nothing really, or does it? In these few words my mom was telling me that she kept trying. She never gave come from what seems the most munup. Even at her weakest, she showed us dane. My mom was a genius right up until the end. Do what you can today because tomorrow is promised to no man. “Tell her I walked today.” A mother is the chief caregiver. She wipes noses, fixes bruises, hugs and kisses. Most of the times we are with them, they are passing on some teaching that will help us to be great parents, role models, and citizens. And even in her waning time, Mom was still doing just that. She was still teaching, imparting wisdom and knowledge. Even as I watched her, steps slowing, body weakening, her mind stayed sharp, her resolve firm. She refused to give in to the enemy that had ravaged her body – leaving behind a heritage of fighting, dedication and tenacity that stays with me up until today. Moms are such amazing creatures, different in many aspects and yet the same. They can be loud and aggressive or quiet and introverted. They can be fun-loving or stern. They can be our greatest critic, best friend, closest confidantes. But the one thing I will always be thankful for is their inescapable maternal brand of wisdom. Somehow they managed, then and now, to pass on important life truths in a way that stays with us, changes us, inspires us. Amazingly, I’m not a mom. But has that stopped me from passing on these wise sayings and lessons? Heavens no! I’ve been given an amazing opportunity to be second mom to countless amounts of children over the years. Being their most loved (or most hated) tutor, confidante and, to this day in many cases, friend, has allowed me to pass on my own brand of wisdom; my own teachings and sayings. “Tell Ayanna I walked today!” An amazing tribute to mothers everywhere – powerful, steadfast, determined to raising great children and leaving indelible legacies. God bless you this week!

INISTER Felicia “Da Fire Starter” Archer is not someone who shies away controversial topics. In fact, she prides herself on “keeping it real”, even in difficult situations. Her latest venture suits her outspoken personality perfectly. She has launched a new Christian talk show called “Transparent Talk TV” on which she will discuss subjects that are often seen as “taboo” by the Church. In discussing these issues, she and her guests aim to provide solutions, strategies and hope for viewers who may be dealing with the subject matter of the week. “Our guests are real people with real stories, providing real answers. I am humbled and excited all at once to see the idea come to fruition. God definitely has a sense of humour, because I never would’ve thought I would have birthed a dream in the midst of a pandemic. This show is quickly growing and making an impact and offering hope to persons that are going through whatever issues we might be discussing. The entire experience is surreal right now because this has been years in the making,” Minister Archer told Tribune Religion. The show will air on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 8pm, live on the “Felicia Archer” Facebook page. She believes nothing happens before its time, and now is a better time than ever to share this new platform with the public. Recording for the show began last August, but Minister Archer said it was stopped due to Hurricane Dorian. Her original released date was this February, but due to circumstances beyond her control, she and her team had to postpone yet again. And then of course the coronavirus outbreak happened.

“After much prayer and consulting with my producer, we decided to launch the show during Mother’s Day weekend 2020. While mothers all over the world were celebrated on a day that was set aside for them, on the other side of this day there are many women who battle daily with an unexplained enemy called infertility. We decided to deal with the issue of infertility as our first topic. Our guest, Mrs Accribba Lightbourne, shared her battle with infertility and her IVF journey. She left no detail out and was very transparent in her sharing her story,” said Minister Archer. The episodes are 30 minutes long right now, inclusive of the interview and commercial breaks, but she is working on expanding the runtime once recording is able to continue after the quarantine and social distancing restrictions are lifted. Minister Archer is already a mentor, motivational speaker, author, and founder of the non-profit organisation Fresh Fire Outreach Ministries International, and now she has added the title of talk show host to that list. But in a way, this new role seems like a logical next step for her. Growing up, she said, she always known as the outspoken one. She was inquisitive and her thought processes were always

advanced for her age. As a result, she developed a love of public speaking, despite of her speech impediment. “I represented my church and school at national speech competitions and captured the title of ‘Best Speaker’ for most of the competitions. At the age of 16, I was introduced to broadcasting and communications. I developed a love and passion for radio after being given the opportunity to be featured every Friday morning on a local gospel station. I produced and hosted informative, provocative, inspiring and spiritual shows. Recently, before the launch of ‘Transparent Talk TV’, I worked full time for the past five years in the Mount Tabor Church Media department,” she said. Minister Archer said she and her team are looking forward to offering the Bahamian public a new type of talk show. “Collectively, we are excited about the future of the show. The feedback has been positive, inspiring and encouraging. We have received an overwhelming response from our audience from this month’s two shows. A lot of wives that are battling infertility have reached out to us for more information and as a result a very private virtual community was formed for women that battle this issue.

Many people reported being hopeful after the show,” she said. “Our most recent show focused on the topic of forgiveness. Both of our guests experienced pain due to gun violence, and our first guest was shot in an attempted armed robbery at the age of 21 years old that left her paralysed from the waist down. She shared her battle with unforgiveness and is on the road to forgiving her attacker. Our second guest was the mother of a teenager who recently graduated high school and was on his way to college at the time. He was shot whilst going to the store during the Fox Hill Day shooting several years ago. She shared her story of forgiving the person that shot her son, and offered hope to mothers that might be experiencing the same pain. There was no dry eye during the interview and as a result we received a lot of inspiring feedback. What I am most happy about is that our guest that’s paralysed was reunited with the woman that found her body the night she got shot after ten plus years.” She encourages people to share their stories and testimonies as a guest on the show by sending an inquiry e-mail to transparenttalktvshow@gmail.com. “As the quarantine weeks continue, I will continue to maximise my potential and platforms for the honour and glory of God.
