An Easter Message
By CARA HUNT Tribune Features Reporter
In his annual Easter message Anglican Bishop Boyd Laish encouraged a real option for themselves.
He referenced John 20.16 which says Jesus said to her, "Mary", and she turned (and recognised him) and said, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).
He explained that in the scripture Mary Magdalene goes to Jesus’ tomb early in the morning and discovers that the stone is rolled away. She went to tell the others that Jesus’s body had been taken away. Later, when weeping outside the tomb, Jesus approaches her. She supposes that he is the gardener and, when Jesus addresses her, she recognises Him and calls him “teacher.”
Bishop Boyd said, “The challenge of this scene is not whether Jesus is alive, for He knows that He is, but rather the challenge is in Mary recognising Him…which she eventually does.”

at work in our lives,” he said.
While he acknowledged that Easter is a time to celebrate, there is more to observing the holiday.
“Let us not simply celebrate a feast, glorious though it is. Let us live a
life that shows God better than mere words can tell.
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today!
He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives, salvation to impart!
You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart”
He concluded, “A Happy and meaningful Easter from the Anglican Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands.”
Bishop Boyd noted that the difficulty many people
He added, “Throughout history and here in the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands today, Jesus’ resurrection would be more easily believed if persons could recognise Him in the world, in the church, in our homes, schools, work places, organisations and clubs, and wherever we gather.”
“This is a personal challenge to all of us to live in a way that points people to God, that makes God a real and attractive option, and that shows His power

Tribute concert to celebrate music of Richard Smallwood
BY JEFFARAH GIBSON Tribune Features Writer jgibson@tribunemedia.net
GOSPEL
music lovers across The Bahamas are being invited to a night centred on praise, reflection and the enduring influence of one of the genre’s most celebrated composers.
Set for Friday, April 17 at 7pm, “Bless The Lord: A Celebration of Richard Smallwood’s Music” will bring together voices from across the local gospel community at Trinity Global Cathedral on Marshall Road. The event is being presented by Edgy Management Bahamas in partnership with the church, with organisers positioning it as more than a traditional concert.
Instead, the evening is being framed as a collective worship experience rooted in music that has shaped churches and choirs for decades.
At the heart of the tribute is the work of Richard Smallwood, a composer and recording artist whose catalogue has become deeply embedded in gospel music traditions around the world. His songs, including “Total Praise,” “I Love The Lord,” and “Anthem of Praise,” have long been staples in worship settings, recognised for their ability to draw congregations into moments of reflection and reverence.
His influence has also extended to The Bahamas, where his visits in the late 1990s and early 2000s left a lasting impression on the local gospel landscape.
Performances during that period helped to inspire singers, musicians and

worshippers, contributing to a continued appreciation of his music across the islands.
The upcoming event will feature a lineup of Bahamian and international gospel voices, including Shaback, Leandria Smith, Davian Chase, Shannette Hepburn, Colyn Christopher, Angelica McIntosh, Rashad Lynes Abreu, Vanderson Barnett and Kacey Duncombe. They will be joined by a group ensemble, collectively performing selections from Smallwood’s body of work.
Organisers say the collaboration between Edgy Management Bahamas and Trinity Global Cathedral was intentional, bringing together both production and ministry to create an experience that resonates with a wide audience.
Travis Edgecombe, chief executive officer of Edgy Management Bahamas, pointed to the deep connection many have with Smallwood’s music, describing it as a defining part of worship for countless believers.
“Richard Smallwood’s music has been the soundtrack of worship for many of us. His music has transcended generations and denominations, and they continue to bring people into powerful moments of praise. Through this partnership with Trinity Global Cathedral, we are creating an experience where the Bahamian gospel community can come together to celebrate the music of a true gospel legend while lifting our voices in worship,” he said.
For Trinity Global Cathedral, the event also reflects a broader commitment to creating spaces where music and ministry intersect in meaningful ways.
Senior Pastor Bishop Trevor Williamson said the church was honoured to host the tribute, noting the spiritual impact Smallwood’s work has had on believers globally.
“It is a tremendous joy for Trinity Global Cathedral to partner with Edgy Management Bahamas in celebrating the music of Richard Smallwood. His songs have ministered to the hearts of believers around the world and have become anthems of worship in churches everywhere. This will be more than a concert; it will be a night of heartfelt praise, reflection, and celebration of the powerful impact

gospel music continues to have on our lives,” he said. With a focus on both musical excellence and spiritual connection, the evening is expected to blend powerful vocals with moments of communal worship, reflecting the
essence of gospel music as both art form and ministry. Organisers are encouraging attendees to come prepared to fully engage in an atmosphere of praise as the community gathers to honour the music and legacy of one of gospel
music’s most influential figures.
Additional information and updates can be found through the social media platforms of Edgy Management Bahamas and Trinity Global Cathedral. Admission is set at $20 for adults and $10.
