CARL “King Flashy” Hield pounded Carlos Jimenez from Venezuela into a fourth round technical knockout for the vacant World Boxing Council's FECARBOX super welterweight title at Club Paradise in Pereira, Risaralda, Colombia, on Saturday night.
In remaining undefeated at 15-0 in the FedeCaribe gold round, the 39-year-old Hield gets to keep his World Boxing Association's Caribe and Caribbean crowns and it sets him up for a possible world title shot in the future.
"I just want to give God thanks for the strength and the opportunity to fight for another title," said Hield, who dedicated his fight to his deceased mother Norma Hield, who he considers his number one fan.
"It was a tough fight, but like I normally do, I just go in there and perform to carry out the job that we did in training camp to get the win."
At the end of the third round, Hield unleashed a flurry of punches in the last 10 seconds of the third on Jimenez who refused to answer the bell to start the fourth round.
Hield was awarded the fourth round TKO as the 40-year-old Jimenez fell to 15-10.
"He didn't want any more. No mas," Hield uttered. "I was surprised
that he didn't come out because he's a tough fighter."
With three belts around his waist, Hield said this is just a stepping stone for him to get to the world title.
He said he really appreciated the crowd who after the first round was chanting "Bahamas, Bahamas. They showed me love down there."
Ronn Rodgers, Hield's Bahamian manager, said it's a good step in the right direction and, if he can secure another top notch fight, he could be looking at a world title fight next year or the end of this year. "He now has the diamond round to go for, if not, we will wait for any call outs because a lot of people are retiring now, including Terrance Crawford, who has given up his belt," Rodgers said. "So right now, there are a lot of vacant belts and so we're going to keep our ears to the ground and try to do some call outs. But winning this belt puts us in that step towards a world title. We want to try and get one of these belts that are now vacant."
Hield, who was accompanied by his coaches Fred William Benitez from Colombia and Francisco Tineo from Venezuela, said he will take a week's break to recuperate before he heads back into the ring to resume his training. "You

have to stay ready because you never know when the next fight will come up," said Hield. Rodgers, the manager/ coach of the Strikers Boxing Club, said the performance could have been better, but attributed it to the high altitude. "He was a little slower than he should have been. His opponent was a little bigger than him on fight night," Rodgers
said. "At the weigh-in, he came in under 160 pounds, but he probably put on some pounds because he was about 180 in the fight.
"He was a little more adapted to the environment than Carl, but Carl was able to stay focused and he went to the body as his opponent was busy trying to protect his head.
“He won the fight with a fourth round TKO."
With Hield clinching the first green belt for the Strikers Boxing Club, Rodgers said he has Rashield “Raw” Williams, Devon Hamilton and Amron Sands, who are next in line for a WBC title. While Rodgers is looking at both Williams and Sands fighting for their title shots this year, he's expecting Hamilton to get his shot next year. Hield expressed his gratitude to
his wife Carlina Hield for taking care of their children - Coarlina and Carolina Hield and Irina
in his absence during the training camp to prepare for the fight. He also thanked his sponsors, including Production Gurus, Rigger242, Strikers Boxing Gym and the West End Construction and Repairs for partnering with him on his journey.

THE Bahamas men's national basketball team, with the addition of Kai Jones, put up a gallant effort but it wasn't enough to prevail against Puerto Rico in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Americas Qualifier. Puerto Rico led from start to finish as they held off Team Bahamas 71-66 yesterday at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente Arena in Puerto Rico.
It was Puerto Rico's first win in their four games played so far in the Group B of the first round of the qualification. The win pushed Puerto Rico into a two-way tie with The Bahamas in third place. Team Bahamas head coach Moses Johnson Jr, who was assisted by Mitchell Thompson and Addison Walters, had 10 players in uniform to work with.
"The effort was there, but it was obvious that we had some tired legs," Johnson Jr said. "In the first half, we executed, but we just didn't hit our shots. The shots started to fall late when we made a 6-0 run, but the floor got a little slippery and both Kai and Franco slipped down. That really turned the tide. The shots that fell against Jamaica, we didn't get them to go here in Puerto Rico." Puerto Rico jumped out to a 22-11 first quarter lead that they maintained at the

half with a 39-30 advantage. By the end of the third, Puerto Rico pushed ahead 58-47. But Team Bahamas made their final run in the fourth as they outscored Puerto Rico 22-13 to get back into the game, but it was a little too late. Jones, who joined the team after missing Thursday's first game against Jamaica on this trip in the home-and-away series, joined Franco Miller Jr in leading the attack for Team Bahamas with 19 points. Jones shot 8-of-11 from the field, 1-for-1 from the three-point arc and 2-for-4 from the free throw line in 29 minutes and 20 seconds. He also had nine rebounds, three assists, two block shots and a steal.
Miller Jr, the top scorer in Team Bahamas' 99-96 victory over Jamaica on Thursday night, played 37:36 minutes and produced 19 points and 6-for-22 from the field, 4-for-15 from three-point and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe. He also had eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Isaiah Mobley was the only other player in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds. Garvin Clarke had five points with four rebounds, two assists and a steal and Samuel Hunter also had five points with three rebounds.
Ishmael Romero sparked Puerto Rico with a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
At the half, Mobley had the hot hands with eight points. Tavario Miller, who only had two points, was the top rebounder with six. Jones had seven points with five rebounds. Both Clarke and Miller Jr added five points with three rebounds. Miller also had three assists.
Puerto Rico out-rebounded Team Bahamas 49-45 and had one more turnover (10-9) than Team Bahamas. Both teams had the same amount of personal fouls with 10.
Puerto Rico’s biggest run came in the first quarter, a 12-0 burst from 6:00 to 3:25, turning a 5-6 deficit into a 17-6 lead through a collective team effort.
The Bahamas answered with their most significant
run late in the fourth quarter, stringing together an 8-0 run from 2:03 to 0:52, cutting the gap from 69-58 to 69-66, with Franco Miller contributing six points and one rebound during that stretch.
Puerto Rico’s largest lead was 15 points, reaching a 33-18 advantage with 3:55 left in the second quarter.
The Bahamas’ biggest lead was 0-2 at 9:17 in the opening period. Puerto Rico maintained the largest margin throughout and ultimately sealed the win by five points.
The Bahamas will take a break and get ready to complete round one when they take on Jamaica at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium on Friday, July 3, and Puerto
Rico on Monday, July 6, at the same venue.
The Bahamas will need to finish in the top three in order to advance to the second round of the tournament, so Johnson Jr said the final two games at home against Jamaica and Puerto Rico are going to be critical. "We will have to beat both of them for us to advance to the second round," coach Johnson Jr said. "When we play our brand of basketball and we execute, we are unstoppable. "But it's all about staying together and staying within our scheme and our concept and we will be fine. We can beat any team out there. We just have to beat them two teams in

BOSTON (AP) — Neemias Queta scored a career-high 27 points and added 17 rebounds to help the Boston Celtics recover from a slow start and rally to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 114-98 last night.
Jaylen Brown added 27 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, and Derrick White finished with 21 points and eight assists as the Celtics became the fourth team to reach 40 victories. They have won six of seven.
Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers with 33 points and six assists and Rising Stars MVP Valdez “VJ” Edgecombe Jr, who played 40 minutes, scored 23 points as Philadelphia’s three-game win streak was snapped. The rookie guard also
contributed five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block. It was the 11th double-double of the season for Queta, who also had three blocks. He has three double-doubles — with at least two blocks in each — over his last five games. Philadelphia cut what was a 16-point lead by Boston in the second half to 103-97 with just over four minutes to play. But Queta scored Boston’s next eight points to put the Celtics in front 111-98 and help close it out. With Queta leading the way, the Celtics used a 15-6 run to erase a 10-point, first-quarter deficit and took a 62-50 lead into halftime.
Baylor Scheierman, who played with a splint on the left thumb he fractured in Friday’s win over Brooklyn, gave a thumbs up after

draining a corner 3-pointer at halftime buzzer off a feed from Brown.
Queta carried the early offensive load for the Celtics with 16 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in just under 14 minutes in the first half.
Philadelphia led throughout the opening period and built as much as a 10-point edge while Boston shot just 30% from the field (8 for 26). But the Celtics recovered, outscoring the 76ers 36-22 in the second quarter and never trailed again.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)
— Luka Doncic had 26 points, eight assists and six rebounds, LeBron James added 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, and the Los Angeles Lakers ran away from the short-handed Golden State Warriors for a 129-101 win Saturday night.
The Warriors struggled to produce enough offensive power as Stephen Curry missed his 10th straight game for Golden State still nursing a right knee injury and newly acquired centre Kristaps Porzingis sat out with an illness.
Gui Santos scored 14 points to lead the Warriors in his fifth straight double-digit game and 12th in the last 13 — and this one came after he received a multi-year contract extension earlier in the day.
Gary Payton II contributed 12 points for Golden State, his seventh game out of the last nine in double digits.
James went 7 for 13 from the floor with four 3-pointers after he shot around with 11-year-old daughter Zhuri before the game after completing his own warmup in a sweet moment.
The Lakers snapped a three-game losing streak overall and a three-game skid on the road with just their third win in the last eight — and also third in eight on the road against the Pacific Division this season.
Austin Reaves scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting for Los Angeles, Luke Kennard had 16 points with four 3s off the bench and
Deandre Ayton grabbed 10 rebounds.

Jrue Holiday scored 25 points and Jerami Grant had 21 for the Trail Blazers, who played without AllStar Deni Avdija for a third straight game because of a back injury.
HEAT 115, ROCKETS 105
MIAMI (AP) — Bam Adebayo had 24 points and 11 rebounds, Pelle Larsson scored 10 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and Miami beat Houston. Tyler Herro scored 18, Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 14 and Kel’el Ware had a 13-point, 15-rebound game for the Heat. Andrew Wiggins — who needed eight stitches to close a laceration inside his mouth — had 12 points for Miami.
Kevin Durant finished with 32 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the
Rockets, who got 20 points from Amen Thompson and 14 from Reed Sheppard.
Both teams had double-digit leads early; the Rockets ran out to a quick 14-4 edge, the Heat answered with a 37-14 run to take a 41-28 lead. And then things settled down, with the sides staying relatively close the rest of the way.
Neither team had a double-digit lead in the second half until Larsson hit a pair of free throws with 1:52 left for a 113-103 lead.
PELICANS 115,
JAZZ 105
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Saddiq Bey scored 24 points as New Orleans won to complete a two-game sweep in Utah after Pelicans star Zion Williamson left the game with an ankle injury.
Williamson left early in the second quarter with a right ankle injury and didn’t return. He had four points, two assists and a rebound in 11 minutes.
Pelicans interim coach James Borrego said only that Williams “tweaked” his ankle. He said he would get more information and hoped it was nothing serious.
Bey, coming off a 42-point performance in Thursday’s 129-118 win of the Pelicans, shot 7 for 16 from the field and 3 for 8 from long distance, and was helped by 7-for-10 shooting from the line.
Jeremiah Fears and Bryce McGowens each scored 18 points, Herbert Jones scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half and Jordan Poole added 11.

Fears chipped in 11 rebounds and five assists as New Orleans won its fourth straight and for the sixth time in eight games.
RAPTORS 134, WIZARDS 125
WASHINGTON (AP) — Immanuel Quickley had 27 points and 11 assists to lift Toronto to a victory over Washington. Brandon Ingram added 24 points for the Raptors, who rebounded from backto-back home losses to Western Conference contenders Oklahoma and San Antonio earlier in the week. Toronto is in fifth place in
the East, now three games clear of the play-in group. Will Riley scored 19 points for Washington, which lost its fourth straight game after beating Indiana twice in a row coming out of the All-Star break. The Wizards remain without newly acquired Anthony Davis (finger) and Trae Young (knee, quad). And 7-footer Alex Sarr (hamstring) didn’t play either.
The Raptors were up 98-92 after three and pushed the lead into double digits early in the fourth.
All five Toronto starters scored at least 18 points.
RJ Barrett contributed 21, and Scottie Barnes scored 18 and Jakob Poeltl had 18 with 10 rebounds.
Bilal Coulibaly and Kyshawn George scored 14 points each for the Wizards. Washington shot 16 of 34 from 3-point range, but Toronto countered by going 42 of 63 inside the arc.
Collin Murray-Boyles (thumb) did not play for Toronto. Washington led by three in the middle of the third quarter before an 11-2 Toronto run capped by Ingram’s 3-pointer.

By JONATHAN BURROWS Tribune Sports Reporter jburrows@tribunemedia.net
PENN State closed its weekend in Nassau with a dramatic extra-inning win, but Indiana State would ultimately take home the hardware.
In what marked the first time NCAA baseball games were played in The Bahamas, Penn State defeated Indiana State 9-8 in 11 innings yesterday at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium to wrap up the Atlantis Collegiate Baseball Series organised by BDG Sports.
The win gave the Nittany Lions momentum, but the Sycamores claimed the weekend championship belt by taking two of three games in the series.
With the victory, Penn State moved to 3-6 in the young NCAA season.
Indiana State, despite the loss in the finale, left town 6-6 overall after securing the series with an 8-5 win on Friday and a 2-1 win on Saturday. Sunday’s game had pace from the start with Indiana State striking early, using a four-run third inning to take control.
Mason Roell delivered one of the biggest plays of the afternoon with an inside-the-park home run as part of an eight-run showing through the first seven innings.

In the 11th, Jaconski led off with a double.
A bunt single and an intentional walk loaded the bases. Mercado hit a ground ball to shortstop, and the throw home sailed wide, allowing Jaconski to score the winning run in a 9-8 finish.
Freshman Frankie Sanchez earned the win after a clean top half of the 11th.
Penn State finished with 15 hits. Anderson, Davis and Molinaro each homered.
Jaconski had three hits and scored twice. Yaucher drove in two runs, including the game-tying hit. Indiana State totalled 11 hits in the finale.
Over the course of the series, Caden Miller stood out and was named tournament MVP. He batted .333 across the three games, driving in four runs and scoring twice while delivering key hits in the Sycamores’ two wins.
“It was a great baseball game, it got a little bit chippy at the end, and that was unfortunate, but, you know, both teams ended up doing a good job, staying under control as far as the weekend. It was an
unbelievable weekend and three awesome baseball games. All three could have gone either way,” said Penn State head coach Mike Gambino.
“We want to be a team that talks about being in the NCAA tournament, regionals and super regionals.”
“I'm really proud of our guys for how they played in all three games, just kept fighting very tough games, you know, just mentally, especially since we've been on the road for our 20th day. And for them to come out and get a series win against this team was good to see,” explained Indiana State head coach Tracy Archuleta.

MANCHESTER, Eng-
land (AP) — Arsenal passed the latest test of its Premier League title credentials with a crucial 2-1 win against Chelsea yesterday, and Manchester United climbed up to third by beating Crystal Palace 2-1 to boost its pursuit of a return to the Champions League.
Jurrien Timber's second-half goal saw Arsenal re-establish a five-point lead over second-place Manchester City after Pep Guardiola's team kept the pressure on at the top of the league by beating Leeds on Saturday.
Victory against Chelsea saw Arsenal overcome another of its major rivals and move a step closer to a first league title since 2004.
It leaves the visit to City next month as potentially the last major hurdle for Mikel Arteta's team, which has no other games against the rest of the current top seven in the standings.
“We have the feeling that we have to win and win and win. You win so many games, but it is not enough to open the gap. That is the level of this league,” Arteta said.
Benjamin Sesko's seventh goal in eight games sealed victory for United against Palace and moved
it above Aston Villa in third on goal difference. At the other end of the standings, Tottenham's winless run extended to 10 games after a 2-1 loss at Fulham — leaving it mired in a fight to avoid relegation. Nottingham Forest also failed to pull further away from the drop zone after a 2-1 loss at Brighton. Arsenal edges closer to the title
Arsenal had to respond after City closed the gap to two points a day earlier. And if Arsenal goes on to claim the title, it may well look back on this win as a decisive moment. Even when down to 10 men, after Pedro Neto was sent off in the second half, Chelsea pushed deep into added time for an equaliser.
David Raya produced a stunning save to push Alejandro Garnacho's goalbound cross away as the seconds ran down at the Emirates. And the home fans breathed a sigh of relief when Liam Delap's goal was ruled out for offside in the dying moments. In the end, Arsenal's threat from set pieces proved the difference again. William Saliba put the home team in front, converting from a corner after 21 minutes.

in first-half added time, Timber headed in from another corner in the 66th.
With 16 goals from corners this season, Arsenal has tied the record for a Premier League season, according to stats provider Opta.
Carrick gets the better of Glasner
“It feels like a big result,” United captain Bruno Fernandes said after his team beat Palace.
United's latest win boosted its push for a return to the Champions League and further strengthened Michael Carrick's
credentials to be given the coach's job on a long-term basis.
He remains unbeaten since being given a contract to the end of the season in January, with a record of six wins in seven games. His cause may also have been helped after overcoming a Palace team coached by Oliver Glasner, who was one of the early favourites to get the job when United fired Ruben Amorim at the start of the year.
Over two spells as United coach, Carrick has picked up 23 points from nine games.
Opta said it was the joint highest points total for a manager after his first nine games in the league's history — equaling Ange Postecoglou's start at Tottenham.
“This place means a lot to me so to have the sort of positivity and everyone enjoying going to the games and watching it and for me to have an influence on that, I’m not going to lie, it feels good,” Carrick said.
Glasner was widely seen as a leading contender for the United job. His reputation has grown after winning the FA Cup with Palace last season and he will be a free agent at the end of the current campaign. And when Maxence Lacroix headed Palace in front after just four minutes, Glasner had the chance to claim a statement win in front of United's hierarchy. But Carrick has instilled a resilient streak in his team in just a short space of time and United leveled in the 57th after Lacroix dragged back Matheus Cunha in the box and was sent off for denying a clear scoring opportunity.
Fernandes stepped up and converted from the penalty spot for his seventh goal of the season.
Sesko, who has been a scoring substitute in recent weeks for United, was given a chance from the start and
struck again with a powerful winning header in the 65th. “We were behind so we had to show some character,” Fernandes said. "The result gives us the chance of getting third but there are a lot of games still to go. We have a lot to do and it is important we don’t feel like we are already in the place we want to be.”
Sinking feeling for
Tottenham
Tottenham is still without a league win in 2026 after new coach Igor Tudor made it back-to-back losses in his first two games in charge. Spurs have equalled their longest winless streak in the Premier League — matching a record that dates back to 1994, according to Opta. Last week's 4-1 rout at the hands of north London rival Arsenal was followed by another defeat at Fulham. First-half goals from Harry Wilson and Alex Iwobi gave Fulham a 2-0 lead at the break. Richarlison pulled one back in the second half. Tottenham is 16th -- four points and two places above the relegation zone with 10 rounds to go. Forest is 17th and two points clear after its defeat at Brighton.
Vitor Pereira became Forest's fourth coach of the season when hired last month, but has fallen to two straight losses in the league.
