There was a full day of intense games at the A.F. Adderley Gymnasium, headlined by Charles W. Saunders taking the floor for a chance in Hugh Campbell after their recent loss in the BAISS senior boys’ final. The Cougars had one of the more complete performances of the day.
Charles W Saunders 64, St George’s 5 Charles W Saunders led for most of the contest and pulled away late for a 64-55 win over St. George’s. CW Saunders carried a 28-19 lead heading into halftime and extended the margin to 42-31 after three quarters before closing it out in a tough fourth quarter after being tied for an extended period in the final quarter.

For St George's, MikhailNesbitt scored a team-high 11 points. Ian Gibson added eight, and Israel Cox finished with five.
“We have to continue to grow. You know I watched these guys grow up in front
of my eyes and they're starting to listen now,” said CW Saunders’ head coach Dario Burrows.
“Practice taught them that in a tight game, you have to execute down the stretch and in the half-court.
“My guys stepped up tonight and God blessed us with the win,” stated Burrows. Burrows says with God’s direction the team is going to take it one game at a time in the tournament.
Tabernacle 38, Teleos 37 The tightest game of the afternoon came in a onepoint finish as Tabernacle edged Teleos 38-37. Teleos led 28-24 entering the fourth quarter.

ROLPH Gervais ignited his team with a header to help the University of The Bahamas Mingoes men’s soccer team take care of the California Intercontinental University Falcons 3-0 to complete the two-game sweep on Friday, February 13, at the Roscow A.L. Davies Soccer Fields.
Midfielder Gervais broke the 0-0 match in the 74th minute before captain Ronaldo Green shut the door with two goals after.
UB won 4-1 the previous day in the first match. Green scored a hat-trick in that one and forward Kevin Thomas nailed that match shut.
Alex Thompson, head coach for UB, said that this was the most professional his team has ever played.
“We faced a team that sat back against us and it forced the guys to think and come up with some solutions,” Thompson said. “We had some patterns of play that we were trying to use to open the game up but ultimately it came down to some individual brilliance, great leadership from all of the captains and some freshman stepping up in a big way.”
It was clear that UB was the better attacking team as they were able to get into the Falcons defensive third a few times but they were unable to convert the shots to goal.
Gervais, a freshman, changed all that in 74th minute when he shot the ball onto the cross bar. However, he was the first one to recoup his miss as he put the ball into the back of the net with a header to give his side the 1-0 lead for his first goal as a Mingoe.
“It was my first goal and I was waiting for that,” Gervais said. “We worked hard

for it. I worked hard for it and it was amazing.”
Green got the long ball 18 yards out three minutes later and dribbled past two defenders before scoring the brace with his left foot as UB went up 2-0.
The nail in the coffin came in the 79th minute when Green got the through pass from Thomas.
He used his pace to get past the Falcons’ central defender before placing the ball past the keeper.
UB led 3-0 as the final whistle blew minutes later.
“The plan the coach gave us was the plan that set us up for victory and we can’t give no other thanks but to the coaching staff,” Green said. “They helped us to
keep our head and as you can see everyone started to lose their head and the coaching staff kept it together and did their jobs.” Goalkeeper Antonio Beckford and his defence got the clean sheet in this game. Green scored five goals over the two matches as UB scored seven goals in total while conceding just one goal. It was a good showing for UB in the first time hosting a university team from the United States.
UB returned to action on Sunday, February 15 against Inter Nassau in the Bahamas Men’s Soccer League. They sit atop the table with a 6-0-2 win/lose/draw record.

TAMPA, Florida (AP)
— Tony Clark resigned as head of the Major League Baseball Players Association, the union announced Tuesday, as a possible salary cap fight looms during a federal investigation of its finances.
“The full executive board of player representatives met this afternoon with MLBPA staff and outside counsel to discuss next steps,” the union said in a statement. “As always, the players remain focused on their ongoing preparations for collective bargaining this year.”
Clark was asked to resign by the eight-man executive subcommittee of the players' association after an investigation by the union's outside counsel discovered evidence that Clark had an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, a union employee since 2023, a person familiar with the union's deliberations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because that was not announced.
Clark did not respond to a text message seeking comment.
His departure took place during a probe by the U.S. Attorney in Brooklyn, New York, into OneTeam Partners, a licensing company founded by the union, the NFL Players Association and RedBird Capital Partners in 2019.
“A lot of people have known that the investigation has been going on,” said the New York Mets' Marcus Semien, a member of the subcommittee. “I think that this happening during the investigation is not like, as a subcommittee, is not like overly surprising, but it still hurts and it's still something I'm processing.”
The union's executive board, which includes the subcommittee and the player representatives of the 30 teams, did not make any decisions about a successor during Tuesday's meeting, the person told the AP.
Deputy executive director Bruce Meyer is set to be the primary negotiator in the upcoming labor talks, as he was in 2021-22. After Clark and Rick Shapiro led the 2016 negotiations, Meyer was hired in August 2018 as senior director of collective bargaining and legal and was promoted to his current role in July 2022.

MLB Players Association Executive Director Tony Clark answers a question during a news conference in New York on March 11, 2022.
Semien said he believes Clark is leaving to deal with the probe.
“I think so," he said, "because up to this point, before any investigations, I’ve had the ultimate confidence in Tony Clark to lead this player group. I've had the ultimate confidence in Bruce Meyer to be the lead negotiator for this player group.”
The decision was made ahead of an expected start of collective bargaining in April for an agreement to replace the five-year labour contract that expires December 1. Management appears on track to propose a salary cap, which possibly could lead to a

Flaherty, Lucas Giolito and Ian Happ, were among the players who in March 2024 advocated for the ouster of Meyer in an effort led by former union lawyer Harry Marino. Clark backed Meyer, the effort failed and those three players were dropped off the subcommittee that December. The subcommittee voted 8-0 against approving the 2022 labor contract and Meyer had advocated pushing management for a deal more favorable to the union. Team player representatives, the overall group supervising negotiations, voted 26-4 in favor, leaving the overall ballot at 26-12 for ratification. In addition to Semien, the current subcommittee includes Chris Bassitt, Jake Cronenworth, Pete Fairbanks, Cedric Mullins, Paul Skenes, Tarik Skubal and Brent Suter.

NEW YORK (AP)
— The WNBA Players' Association sent a counterproposal to the WNBA on Tuesday for a new collective bargaining agreement that included some concessions on revenue sharing and housing, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the negotiations.
The union is now asking for an average of 27.5% of the gross revenue — revenue before expenses — over the course of the CBA. That would include only 25% in the first year of the new deal. In its previous offer, the union had been asking for an average of more than 30%.
Under the proposal sent nearly two weeks ago, the league slightly increased its revenue sharing offer which would give players more than 70% of net revenue. That would be their take of the profits after expenses are paid. Those expenses would include upgraded facilities, charter flights, five-star hotels, medical services, security and arenas.
“The Players Association’s latest proposal remains unrealistic and would cause hundreds of millions of dollars of losses for our teams," the WNBA said in a statement.
"We still need to complete two drafts and free agency before the start of training camp and are running out of time. We believe the WNBA’s proposal would result in a huge win for current players and generations to come.”
The person said that the union also offered a counter on housing to the WNBA's previous proposal. Teams would continue to pay for housing for players in the first few years of the new agreement, but in the last two years of the deal the franchises would no longer have to pay for housing for players that are making near the maximum salary.
The league had offered housing to players for three years who were on minimum salary contracts as well as rookies in their first season. They would receive one-bedroom apartments paid for by the team. That would last for the first three years of the new CBA. After that players would have to pay for their housing.
Players who were traded during the season would have their housing taken care of as well. The two developmental players who
teams would add this year would get studio apartments paid for by the team.
ESPN was the first to report the new offer. In an interview earlier this month, union president Nneka Ogwumike discussed how important housing was to the players.
“Housing is a really, really big one. It’s a matter of safety, efficiency — being able to get from home to the practice facility to the arena,” she said. “Being able to know where all the players are. It’s something that has always been provided. To be honest, I think that it’s probably the largest benefit that we’ve had as professional athletes.”
Ogwumike said that the union has offered ways to have the cost of the housing paid for by the players share of revenue.
Over the weekend, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver had called on the WNBA and the union to increase their urgency to get a labor deal done in time for the new season to begin on schedule in early May.
“I’m encouraged there has been more back and forth over the past few weeks,” Silver said. “I think there’s been more direct engagement from players and team owners. I have not been at the table, but I’m very involved behind the scenes. I want to play whatever role would be most productive in getting a deal done. But again, I think we need to now move toward the next level sense of urgency and not lose momentum in terms of the amazing amount of progress we’ve seen in women’s basketball.”
If a new CBA isn’t agreed upon soon, it could delay the start of the 2026 season. It’s already delayed the expansion draft for Toronto and Portland.
The previous CBA was announced in the middle of January 2020, a month after it had been agreed to. It could easily take two months from when a new CBA is reached to get to the start of free agency, which was supposed to begin last month. With a massive salary raise expected in a new CBA, 80% of players in the league are free agents this offseason, which makes this the biggest opportunity for player movement in the history of the WNBA.
A delay would hurt both sides. The season is supposed to start May 8 and every game that is missed, revenue would be lost, as would be sponsorships, television money and fan support.

LONDON (AP) — Titleholder Arsenal and Real Madrid easily won their home games yesterday to reach the women’s Champions League quarterfinals.
Alessia Russo scored twice as Arsenal beat Belgian side OH Leuven 3-1 for a 7-1 aggregate win to set up a quarterfinal with English rival Chelsea.
Earlier, Madrid set up a Clasico against three-time champion Barcelona by beating Paris FC 2-0 for a 5-2 aggregate victory.
Striker Naomie Feller opened the scoring for Madrid and defender Melween N’Dongala put through her own net.
Russo becomes top scorer Russo’s brace took her onto a tournament-leading seven goals as Arsenal followed up its 4-0 away win from the first leg.
The England forward fired Arsenal ahead in the 23rd minute with a turn and first-time shot, and her second goal in the 90th was similar as she again used her strength to swivel and plant a low shot into the corner.
Hungary midfielder Sára Pusztai equalised for the visitors in the 29th with a close-range finish at a rainsoaked Meadow Park in Boreham Wood. Mariona Caldentey restored Arsenal’s lead with a penalty midway through the second half.
North Londoner Arsenal won the tournament in 2007, when it was called the Super Cup, and remains the only English team to do so. West Londoner Chelsea reached the final once, in 2021, but was routed 4-0 when Barca won its first title. Earlier this month, Arsenal won the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup.
Early red card In Madrid, Paris’ cause was made harder when defender Théa Greboval was sent off in the fifth minute for pulling back Feller as she ran through on goal.
Still, the visitors came close to taking a 19th-minute lead at Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano when Océane Picard’s low shot from 20 metres was well saved by goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez.
Attacking midfielder Caroline Weir missed a chance to put Madrid ahead from the penalty spot in the 36th after Picard handled a cross. Goalkeeper Mylène Chavas, playing against her former club, pushed away the spot kick with both hands.
Feller broke Paris’ resistance in the 54th when she volleyed in from close range following a fine cross from right back Eva Navarro, who also set up the second goal midway through the second half when her cross led to N’Dongala’s own goal from near the penalty spot.
The revamped women’s Champions League format has followed the men’s competition.
It now has an opening league phase of six rounds instead of eight.
The top four in the 18-team league phase — Barcelona, Lyon, Chelsea and Bayern Munich — advanced directly to the quarters and teams placed fifth to 12th went into the playoffs.

WOLVERHAMPTON,
England (AP) — Arsenal blew a two-goal lead at lastplace Wolves yesterday to give a huge boost to Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.
The league leader was held to a surprise 2-2 draw at Molineux, having led 2-0 in the second half.
Tom Edozie's goal in the fourth minute of added time completed Wolves' comeback.
“There was a big difference in how we played in the first half and the second half. We dropped our standards and we got punished for it,” Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka told the BBC.
The draw means Arsenal has dropped points in back-to-back games and leaves it just five ahead of second-place City, having played a game more.
With the top two still to play each other at City's Etihad Stadium, the title race is too close to call.
“(It's) time to focus on ourselves, improve our standards and improve our performances and it is in our control,” Saka said.
Arsenal has led the way for the majority of the season and one bookmaker paid out on Mikel Arteta's team winning the title after

ARSENAL’s Piero Hincapie, rights, celebrates with teammates after scoring his side the second goal during the Premier League soccer match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal in Wolverhampton, England, yesterday.
it opened up a nine-point lead earlier this month.
But Wednesday's result was the latest sign that it is feeling the pressure, having finished runner up in each of the last three seasons. It
has won just two of its last seven league games.
Having blown a lead against Brentford last week, it was even worse at a Wolves team that has won just one game all season.
Victory looked all but secured after Saka gave Arsenal the lead with a header in the fifth minute and Piero Hincapie ran through to blast in the second in the 56th.

But Wolves' fightback began with Hugo Bueno's curling shot into the top corner in the 61st. Edozie's effort earned the home team only its 10th point of a campaign that looks certain to end in relegation.
While it did little for Wolves' chances of survival, it may have had a major impact at the top of the standings.
