LETTERFROMTHE EXECUTIVEDIRECTOR

DR.PATRICIA RITTER

As we reflect on this remarkable year at TLC, I am filled with gratitude and pride for all that our community has accomplished together. This milestone year marked 75 years of TLC and 30 years of The Katherine Thomas School, celebrating decades of dedication to helping individuals learn, grow, and thrive. These anniversaries are a powerful reminder of the lives touched through our programs and the enduring impact of our mission

One of the most meaningful moments of the year was our 2025 TLC Gala, where we heard from Chance, a proud KTS Class of 2019 graduate and his mom. His heartfelt reflections on how KTS helped shape his confidence and independence beautifully captured the purpose behind our work and the difference our educators and staff make every day.

Throughout this issue, you’ll see that same spirit of innovation, collaboration, and care reflected across TLC From expanding autism diagnostic services and counseling supports, to sharing occupational therapy–inspired resources that encourage learning through play, to launching exciting new programs like *Playful Connections Preschool*, our teams continue to respond thoughtfully to the needs of the individuals and families we serve.

You’ll also read about the many moments of joy, creativity, and connection within our schools and programs family events, student performances, staff achievements, and community partnerships that strengthen everything we do. Each story is a testament to the dedication of our staff, the engagement of our families, and the generosity of our supporters

Thank you for being part of TLC’s journey Your trust, partnership, and support make it possible for us to continue improving lives and expanding possibilities today and for generations to come.

OUTPATIENT DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS

This fall, Testing, Tutoring, and Counseling enjoyed special activities that brought our team together, including a festive Dessert Potluck filled with good company, warm beverages, and plenty of sweet treats. We also proudly celebrated staff achievements and milestones congratulations to Robyn Davey, Counseling Supervisor, on receiving the Stein Award, and to Lisa Torvik and our psychologists who marked 3, 15, and 20 years of service with TLC.

Looking ahead, our Tutoring team will introduce a new executive functioning class for middle school students this summer using the Unstuck and On Target curriculum. We’re also excited to share several service expansions, including enhanced Group Counseling for students in kindergarten through high school, Toddler and Adult Autism Diagnostic Evaluations, Adult Counseling services, and tutoring “catch-up” sessions to support students returning after extended breaks or illness.

Autism looks different in every child, but common early signs may include:

Limited eye contact or not responding to their name

Preferring to play alone rather than with caregivers or peers

Delayed speech or fewer gestures (pointing, waving)

Repetitive behaviors or strong attachment to routines

Seeing one sign does not mean a child is autistic but if concerns continue, an evaluation can provide clarity and peace of mind

WHYEARLYEVALUATIONMATTER
