Welcome to all of our subscribers, and a special welcome back to our Charter subscribers, almost 200 strong, who have been with scott, barbara, and ross for every year since the very beginning.
once again, scott has assembled a group of broadway luminaries to share their talents and unique styles. they make it possible for all of us to reminisce and go back in time.
this year, we are taking a look at the last 20 years of broadway. those of you who want to go back further, don’t worry. scott has included revivals from the last 20 years, so you can count on hearing many, many great songs over the broadway’s incredible past.
town Hall has been witness to almost 100 years of broadway history. While our stage, wings, fly space, and basement are too small to make it possible for us to be a legitimate broadway theater, our acoustics, sight lines, and intimacy make us perfectly suited to hear music, voices and conversation, something town Hall has been doing since it opened in 1921. and guess what, that’s exactly what you will hear tonight and every night of broadway by the Year.

ross Patterson’s career in music has been as varied and eclectic as the many styles he loves to play. after completing his studies at the o berlin Conservatory of Music, ross spent two years on the road as Musical director for the i ce Capades before heading to NYC. there, he quickly became one of the most sought after pianists by singers. this led to ross musical directing, arranging and recording for many of the top cabaret artists in New York. He has been honored twice with the b ackstage b istro award for outstanding musical direction. for the past nineteen years ross has been the arranger, musical director and band leader for the critically acclaimed Broadway by the Year ® concert series at the town Hall.

tovah feldshuh is a six-time emmy & tony nominee and has been awarded three honorary doctorates of Humane letters. additionally for her theatre work, she has won four drama desk awards, four outer Critics Circle awards, three drama logues, the Helen Hayes and lucille lortel awards for best actress, the obie, and the theatre World awards. she most recently was chosen to play supreme court justice ruth bader Ginsburg in the los angeles premiere of Sisters In Law by Jonathan shapiro. on broadway: Yentl, Sarava!, Lend Me a Tenor, Golda’s Balcony, Irena’s Vow, Cyrano, Dreyfus in Rehearsal, Rodgers & Hart and the show stopping trapeze-swinging berthe in Pippin off broadway: dozens of productions playing everything from three Queens of Henry VIII and tallulah bankhead to nine Jews from birth to death in Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh! tv: Potus Pauline Mackenzie Cbs’ Salvation, deanna Monroe The Walking Dead, danielle Melnick Law & Order, and Naomi bunch, mother of CW’s Crazy Ex Girlfriend where feldshuh can be seen singing the dignified showstopper: “Where’s the bathroom!” films: Kissing Jessica Stein, (Golden satellite award); A Walk On The Moon, Brewster’s Millions, Just My Luck, Daniel, The Idolmaker and now Golda’s Balcony, the film. Lianne Marie Dobbs
lianne proudly returns to Broadway by the Year® after debuting at town Hall last May. favorite roles include fantine in Les Misérables, aldonza in Man of La Mancha, lucy in Jekyll & Hyde, and the title role in Jane austen’s Emma - performed all over the country. this past year, she starred in the latest revision of duke ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies at NJPaC, directed by andré deshields; Always… Patsy Cline as Patsy; and INDECENT at denver Center. she recently headlined at the Green room 42 in her solo show, Why Can’t a Woman Be More Like a Man…?, and received rave reviews from BroadwayWorld and others. upcoming concert appearances (such as The Famous Songs of Barbra Streisand at 54below produced by scott siegel) can be found at lianneMariedobbs.com and facebook. He was recently lauded by The New York Times for his performance as dionne salon in the hit off-broadway musical, Bedbugs!!! & won the Ct Critics Circle award for best actor in a Musical as Candy darling in POP! for Yale repertory. brian has won four NYMf outstanding Performance awards (Bedbugs!!!, Bayonets of Angst, Miss Blanche Tells it All, etc.). TOUR THE HISTORIC TOWN HALL
Town hall has played an integral part in the electrifying cultural fabric of new york city for more than 90 years. a group of suffragists’ fight for the 19th amendment led them to build a meeting space to educate people on the important issues of the day. during its construction, the 19th amendment was passed, and on January 12, 1921 the town Hall opened its doors and took on a double meaning: as a symbol of the victory sought by its founders, and as a spark for a new, more optimistic climate. in 1921, German composer richard strauss performed a series of concerts that cemented the Hall’s reputation as an ideal venue for musical performances. since, town Hall has been home to countless musical milestones: the us debuts of strauss, and isaac stern; Marian anderson’s first New York recital; in 1945, dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker introduced bebop to the world; bob dylan’s first major concert in ‘63; and much much more.
