Thank you for joining us this evening as we conclude the 19th season of broadway by The year®. the support of our subscribers makes this series not only possible but fun. A special thanks to our Charter subscribers, those individuals who have been with us for all 20 years: season by season, year by year, show by show.
We like the years that scott has chosen for this performance. 1987 may be a generation away in years, but if you think of everything that has happened since ronald reagan was in the White house, it seems more like two or three generations. part of the fun of tonight’s show is that many of us can remember seeing the shows back then. one thing is for sure, the price of the tickets to Broadway shows has skyrocketed over the past 32 years. in 1987, the top price for a musical was $47.50 until Cabaret went to $50. today, the sky is the limit for some Broadway shows. We are pleased to be able to keep Broadway by The Year tickets under $75. that is made possible by the Bank of America and the edyth Kenner foundation and all the town hall foundation sustaining Members and supporters. We thank them all.
We hope you are planning to join us on July 22, for the 13th annual BROADWAY RISING STARS scott, Barbara and their team have auditioned, worked with, and assembled an amazing group of gifted individuals, most all who will be making their professional debut on the town hall stage.
in 2009, a young rising star, who had just graduated from the tisch school at NYu, bravely wheeled herself onto town hall stage as a rising star. she shined that night and has being doing that ever since at theaters here in New York and across the country. last sunday, the American theater Wing shined a light on that young woman by making ali Stroker the 2019 Tony award winner for best Feature actress in a musical. Ali will be joining us on July 22 to help usher the stars for 2019 and sing the song that launched her career on this stage. We know that it will be another great night at town hall you will not want to miss.

ross patterson’s career in music has been as varied and eclectic as the many styles he loves to play. After completing his studies at the o berlin Conservatory of Music, ross spent two years on the road as Musical director for the i ce Capades before heading to NYC. there, he quickly became one of the most sought after pianists by singers. this led to ross musical directing, arranging and recording for many of the top cabaret artists in New York. h e has been honored twice with the Backstage Bistro award for outstanding musical direction. for the past eighteen years ross has been the arranger, musical director and band leader for the critically acclaimed Broadway by the Year ® concert series at the town h all.

TOUR THE HISTORIC TOWN HALL
Town hall has played an integral part in the electrifying cultural fabric of new york City for more than 90 years. A group of suffragists’ fight for the 19th Amendment led them to build a meeting space to educate people on the important issues of the day. during its construction, the 19th Amendment was passed, and on January 12, 1921 the town hall opened its doors and took on a double meaning: as a symbol of the victory sought by its founders, and as a spark for a new, more optimistic climate. in 1921, German composer richard strauss performed a series of concerts that cemented the hall’s reputation as an ideal venue for musical performances. since, town hall has been home to countless musical milestones: the us debuts of strauss, and isaac stern; Marian Anderson’s first New York recital; in 1945, dizzy Gillespie and Charlie parker introduced bebop to the world; Bob dylan’s first major concert in ‘63; and much much more.
