Grounds & Facilities Update

Below are some corrections and clarifications based on the Signage article in the September Hometown Herald.

Another summer has come and gone and we hope everyone enjoyed the season. Now that the pools have closed, there will be some renovations underway. The Millview pool is undergoing a complete renovation. Due to piping repairs done many years ago, the concrete has settled unevenly. We had 2 options: a complete tear out of the concrete pad or a refurbishment. Both were researched and the refurbishment was the best option. Some areas of concrete will be replaced and an overlay will be installed over the entire deck. Before the decking is repaired, there will be a complete tear out of the landscaping surrounding 3 sides of the pool. Tree roots are infiltrating the decking and regrading is also necessary to improve drainage. In addition, the mushroom will be refurbished, the lifeguard desk will be rebuilt, and the sidewalk to the slide area will be repaired.

#1 We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the covenants pertaining to sign placement. Signs may only be placed at the front entrance of your subdivision no earlier than 24 hours before the start time and needs to be taken down immediately upon sale end date. Please also remember not to place any type of signage in Hamilton Mill Common areas such as the center island dividers along all of Hamilton Mill Parkway, 4-way stop signs, light poles, and flower beds at each subdivision’s entrance. We have underground irrigation systems beneath the flowering beds that could be damaged. #2 Signage c. One burglar alarm yard sign per lot provided such sign is in good condition and has a surface area not more than 6” x 6” d. Garage sale signs will be permitted on the lot on which the sale is taking place during the hours of 5:00pm Thursday through 5:00pm Sunday. One free standing directional sign (no stakes) may be placed at the neighborhood entrance on the morning of the sale and must be removed at the end of the sale. Signs may not be larger than 18” x 24”. Signage may not be attached to any street sign posts or light posts. #3 Spirit Signs Spirit Signs, Banners, or Flags such as for Mill Creek or any other seasonal team sport, such as soccer, baseball, etc. may be displayed on the day of the event, but not on a permanent basis. These signs shall not exceed sixteen square feet. (2’x8’, 4’x4’, etc.) No signs may be installed in the County Right of Way, on the entry monuments or in Association landscaping. Any damage to landscaping or irrigation will be billed to the Lot owner. Neighborhoods are encouraged to purchase group banners. Graduation banners can be installed throughout the month of May. All other spirit signs require submission of a Modification Request Form.

This is an active construction area with a completion date of December with good weather. The pool is now covered and temporary construction fencing is up. We ask that all children be vigilantly supervised in this area. Further updates for projects for the next year will be presented at the next Town Hall. We hope to see you there. If you see any areas of concern please note that you can report concerns via the hmill.com website. Go to committees, G&F and you will see a tab to report.

Pool Closing Party 2016

The Pool Closing Party at the Lakeview Pool was a huge success–and what a great way to close down the pool for the season! About 5:00 we started with some tunes by the pool, and a visit from The Atlanta Ice Cream Truck. Kids and adults enjoyed some yummy frozen treats poolside, with a huge variety to choose from! At 6:00, DJ Tony pumped up the crowd with some great energy and awesome music. He got the crowd dancing and the kids singing while we prepared the pool deck for the 30’ HD Projection Movie Screen. As soon as it got dark, the Lakeview pool transformed into an outdoor movie theatre. We served up some free popcorn while we all swam, floated, and watched the classic kids movie, The Sandlot. What an awesome night we had! Thanks to the Scott Lacy Realty Team for sponsoring our Flick and Float. It was a splash of an event!

Kid’s Corner

Fun Fall Kids Food Craft Make these adorable owl pretzels for all of your fall festivities, and family gatherings.

How cute are these!?

1. Each owl is made with one pretzel twist, two candy eyes, two mini chocolate chips, one candy coated sunflower seed, and dark chocolate melting discs. For 18 owls, I used one cup of melted chocolate for dipping plus ½ cup in a plastic bag for piping. 2. Use a fork to dip the pretzels into a small bowl of melted chocolate. Tap excess chocolate back into the bowl and place the coated pretzel on a wax paper lined tray. After coating 6 pretzels, put the tray into the refrigerator to set the chocolate for about 5 minutes. Continue until the desired number of pretzels have been dipped. 3. With the coated pretzels on a wax paper lined tray, use a disposable piping bag filled with ½ cup of melted chocolate (or a plastic bag with a tiny bit of one bottom corner cut off) to fill in the eye holes and to pipe dots for the ears and nose. 4. Add the chocolate chip ears, candy eyes, and sunflower seed beak. Return the tray to the refrigerator until the chocolate is set. Recipe courtesy of The Monday Box

October 5th is National Do Something Nice Day Each year on October 5, people across the nation observe National Do Something Nice Day. “Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never find out.” - Frank A. Clark

This day serves as a reminder to us all – as it is easy to get caught up with hectic schedules and fast paced lifestyles – to stop for a moment and do something nice for a friend, neighbor, or perfect stranger! The “something” can be anything from buying lunch for the person behind you in the check out line, giving a compliment to the clerk, sending flowers or a card “just because”, asking the neighbors over for a barbecue, or mowing the lawn for someone that needs help. It can start a chain reaction!

If you find yourself doing something nice, post it on Facebook or Instagram with #DoSomethingNiceDay along with a photo! “We rise by lifting others.” - Robert Ingersoll
