Temple University in 24 Hours

5:00 AM

The day begins at Temple with a sunrise peeking over Main Campus.

5:53 AM

6:00 AM

Among Temple’s early risers are students in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program. They hold planks and pull weights while finding camaraderie in running drills early in the morning on Geasey Field. “We’re all in this fight together,” said Cadet Zaccheus Carrasco. “One team, one fight.”

6:36 AM

7:00 AM

As the sun begins to shine over Philadelphia, students take advantage of the clear morning weather and exercise at the outdoor track surrounding the Aramark STAR complex.

8:00 AM

Non-residential students start commuting to campus as classes begin for the day. Students from Philadelphia’s surrounding areas hop off the Temple University station of the SEPTA Regional Rail on Berks and 10th streets to head to their first class of the day.

9:00 AM

On the opposite side of campus, students commuting from the inner city get off SEPTA’s Broad Street Line at the Temple University station on Cecil B. Moore Avenue. Like the Regional Rail, each train brings a fresh wave of Temple students to campus.

10:00 AM

It’s 70 degrees in Philly, and students are taking advantage of Temple’s outdoor study spots, like the Founder’s Garden. The sunny weather was a key motivator for students like Willa Burns to start their day. “I woke up and was like, ‘I’m just going to go outside,” Burns said. “People are nicer and everyone’s out in their best outfits.”

11:24 AM

11:00 AM

In Annenberg Hall, film production students practice using video equipment in Cinematography: Junior Projects. They recorded and interviewed senior Victoria Wilcox about her thesis film, The Village It Took, and why she chose to go to Temple University.

12:00 PM

Temple is known for its array of outdoor eateries. Students stop for a late breakfast and coffee from the iconic Bagel Hut, one of Temple’s many destinations for a bacon, egg and cheese.

12:37 PM

1:00 PM

Meanwhile, at The Wall, the quintessential foodie spot in front of Mazur, has its lunch rush. Hank’s serves up milk teas and taro soft serve alongside other Asian fare.

1:11 PM

2:00 PM

In a recent student-body election, junior Lourdes Cardamone was elected Temple Student Government’s next president. “I can’t wait to start all of our initiatives and all of our projects in August,” said Cardamone. “We’re in the works of building an incredible and amazing team. I already love all of them.” Cardamone normally has a busy schedule, but around this time, you could find her doing her homework in the TSG office at the Howard Gittis Student Center.

3:00 PM

Students absorb the afternoon sun and relax with friends on Beury Beach, another classic outdoor hangout spot on campus.

4:00 PM

The fourth-floor study space in Tuttleman offers a direct view of the construction on the new College of Public Health building, currently set to open in the fall. Meanwhile, downstairs in the Honors Program Lounge, honors students passionately present their theses on niche studies they conducted in their Honors Thesis: Special Topics course. “It gives everybody a chance to really grow intellectually and kind of flex those muscles, and that’s what you can see in this celebration,” said course instructor Bryant Simon.

5:31 PM

5:00 PM

The skate scene at the plaza on Cecil B. Moore Avenue draws in skateboarders of all backgrounds, skill levels and ages. With most of the day’s classes having finished, many students come to the park for the evening to practice tricks and hang out with friends. As the sounds of skateboard wheels rolling on cement blocks skate around him, Rye Tewksbury describes coming to the park about 3-4 days a week.

6:00 PM

At Mazur Terrace, another outdoor hotspot, the sun dips behind the tops of campus buildings.

7:44 PM

7:00 PM

This evening, the Tyler School of Art rolled out the red carpet for the Fibers & Material Studies program’s annual Wearable Art Show. Student artists strutted down the runway in their own uniquely crafted outfits. The floor seating became so jam-packed that many students had to cheer from the upstairs balcony while others crowded the outside window from the courtyard just to get a peek.

7:52 PM

8:24 PM

8:00 PM

As the evening transitions into nighttime, many on-campus students have returned home to their residence halls or nearby apartments. Some students in the 1300 Residence Hall on Cecil B. Moore Avenue took to a third-floor lounge to study their engineering and Spanish notes, while others celebrated a birthday with snacks and a viewing party of “Death Becomes Her” on the fifth floor.

9:00 PM

Temple’s student radio station, WHIP Radio, hosted a watch party for the 2025 NFL Draft at The Peabody, a newly opened campus bar on Cecil B. Moore.

9:41 PM

10:48 PM

10:00 PM

With finals season on the horizon, students study for their exams at Charles Library. At this point in the night, each of its four floors is comfortably silent save for the clicking of laptop keyboards.

11:06 PM

11:00 PM

Students like Vivienne Phengvath opt to finish up their papers and final projects at the hundreds of desktop computers in the TECH Center. “I’m here all day and sometimes all night. I just can’t concentrate at home, honestly,” Phengvath said. “So it’s nice to be around others where they can hold me accountable.”

12:06 AM

12:00 AM

Thursday turns into Friday, and the weekend is just beginning. But more than that, this is one of the last weekends for seniors before crossing the graduation stage. Maxi’s, the iconic campus bar on Liacouras Walk, is crowded with students on the hunt for a drink or a slice of pizza.

12:07 AM

1:00 AM

The FLIGHT shuttles, which operate on three loops throughout campus and the neighborhood west of Broad Street, help students with nighttime travel until 2:00 AM.

1:34 AM

2:31 AM

2:00 AM

Well into Friday morning, campus goes quiet. Still, security is stationed across campus throughout the night. Allied Security guard Jordan Shirer keeps his post on Liacouras Walk.

3:00 AM

The bell tower remains illuminated over Temple’s Main Campus, the brightest spot in Philadelphia. Everything remains still with the exception of the occasional student passerby or late-shift campus worker.

These photographs were taken on April 24th and into the morning of April 25th, 2025. They capture the essence of the student life at Temple University within the span of 24 hours. From niche spots on main campus to live events taking place that day, our photographers covered what can happen at Temple in one full day.

Consider this a farewell letter to the 2024-2025 school year from The Temple News photo team.
