2024-2025 2024-2025

OUR MISSION

Theta Phi Alpha Foundation enriches

Theta Phi Alpha sisters by providing resources for scholarship, philanthropy, and education through charitable giving.

A LETTER FROM OUR CHAIR

Dear Theta Phi Alphas, Parents, and Friends,

It is my honor to share highlights from the past year and reflect on the many ways your generosity continues to shape the lives of our members and the future of Theta Phi Alpha.

This year brought meaningful accomplishments, but it also brought profound loss In October, our Foundation mourned the passing of our beloved Chairman, Becky McClaren Becky’s love for Theta Phi Alpha, her steady leadership, and her unwavering dedication were truly unmatched. While her absence is felt deeply, her legacy continues to guide our work. Under her leadership, the Foundation completed two new endowments: The Good Life Endowment, which supports career development initiatives, and the Greater Cleveland Alumnae Association/Alpha Xi Scholarship These lasting investments stand as powerful reflections of Becky’s vision and commitment to our Fraternity.

It is both a privilege and a solemn responsibility to have been elected to complete Becky’s term as Chairman I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by my fellow directors and by you, our members, parents and donors I promise to honor that trust by upholding our shared values and leading with strength, compassion, and purpose. Together, we will continue building the more sustainable, future-focused Foundation Becky envisioned and that our members deserve.

This year, we were especially inspired by the parents of our collegians, who stepped forward in remarkable ways through our National Daughters Day and Thankful for Theta Phi Alpha initiatives. Their enthusiasm and generosity brought fresh energy to our efforts, and we are honored to welcome them, for the first time, into our Parents Leadership Circle.

We also proudly launched Guided by Purpose: The Campaign for Theta Phi Alpha’s Future, the most ambitious initiative in our Foundation’s history. The early support we have received speaks to what is possible when our sisterhood unites around a shared vision We look forward to sharing more with the greater membership in the months ahead and at Convention 2026 as the campaign continues to grow

Finally, we were delighted to welcome Kitty Sweeny (Alpha Xi) as our Director of Scholarship and Programming. Her extensive experience and passion for education are already making a meaningful impact, and we are grateful for the leadership and care she brings to this vital work

Thank you for your support, your faith in our mission, and your enduring love for Theta Phi Alpha Amid loss, we have found renewed purpose Amid change, we have discovered hope And together, I am confident we will continue to build a Foundation worthy of the future our sisters deserve.

Sincerely,

Pittsburgh

Leadership in Action: NGLA Conference

The Northeast Greek Leadership Association (NGLA) is a nonprofit, volunteer-led organization dedicated to empowering fraternity and sorority students and professionals through leadership education. Founded in 2000, NGLA recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and continues to make a lasting impact on the development of fraternal leaders across the Northeast.

Each year, NGLA’s Annual Conference attracts approximately 800 undergraduate students to a multi-day educational experience Attendees select from a robust slate of sessions led by fraternity and sorority life professionals, graduate students, and nationally recognized speakers. Session topics are intentionally designed to address the evolving needs of the fraternity and sorority community.

A highlight of the conference is the Order of Omega Case Study Competition, which challenges students to apply leadership skills to real-world scenarios involving risk management, chapter operations, mental health, and ethical decision-making. Beginning in 2023, NGLA further extends its impact through year-round virtual programming, ensuring continued access to leadership education beyond the conference.

The Theta Phi Alpha Foundation continues our commitment to leadership education by providing two leadership scholarships for the conference. We want to ensure that our collegians continue to have access to this transformative experience and return to their campuses ready to lead with confidence and accountability.

Attending NGLA was an experience that I will always be grateful for. This conference was able to expose me to different perspectives and it gave me the tools I needed to grow as a leader. It was also wonderful to not just meet but reconnect with Theta Phis from all over the region. -Alison Hebert

Endowment

The Good Life Endowment Fund, championed by Abby Newhouse (Mu, University of Nebraska) and Kathy Gaver-Miller (Alpha Pi, Wayne State College), was born out of reflection and hope following the closure of Theta Phi Alpha’s Mu Chapter at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. With the support of alumnae from the Alpha Pi Chapter at Wayne State College , sisters from across Nebraska and beyond came together to bring this vision to life Conversations with members sparked an outpouring of generosity and collaboration. Inspired by Nebraska’s state slogan, “The Good Life , ” the fund’s name proudly reflects the unity of Nebraska chapters and the shared pride and joy found within Theta Phi Alpha’s sisterhood. Initially envisioned as a general scholarship fund, The Good Life Endowment evolved through thoughtful guidance and collaboration into what it is today: an endowed fund dedicated to career-focused programming and leadership development.

At its heart, The Good Life Endowment Fund is about empowering collegians and preparing them to face one of the most important moments in their lives – the transition from college to what comes next. Nebraska alumnae wanted current and future members to feel confident, capable, and supported as they embark on their post-graduate journeys, carrying forward the skills and values shaped by their Theta Phi Alpha experience. By focusing on leadership development and professional growth, the fund is able to serve a broader community of collegians an impact that excites alumnae most. The fund’s creators encourage others considering an endowment to listen closely to collegians and fellow alumnae, build meaningful connections, and think boldly about what is possible. The Good Life Endowment Fund is a testament to what can grow when a community rallies around a shared vision, turning moments of change and trust into something lasting, meaningful, and full of heart.

The GCAA–Alpha Xi Scholarship, established by Linda Geca Barath (Alpha Xi, Cleveland State University), grew out of experience, service, and a clear understanding of what our members need most. During her years on the Theta Phi Alpha Foundation Board including serving as Foundation Treasurer Linda saw firsthand how transformative endowed funds can be. Recognizing the increasing financial pressures facing collegians, she decided to create a scholarship that would offer meaningful, lasting support. What began as an idea rooted in service became a long-term investment in the future of Theta Phi Alpha members.

At its core, the GCAA–Alpha Xi Scholarship is about removing barriers and opening doors. Linda hopes the award reaches a member who truly needs assistance someone who can use the support to focus on her education without the weight of overwhelming debt shaping her next steps. With the cost of college continuing to rise, she believes no sister’s future should be limited by finances alone. For members considering establishing an endowed fund of their own, Linda offers practical wisdom: think long-term, stay committed, and build a plan you believe in. Endowments are not built overnight but with steady dedication and heart, they create opportunity that lasts for generations.

With heartfelt thanks, we recognize the donors who have established and are actively building our endowed and working-toward funds. Through academic scholarships, leadership education, programming, and philanthropy, your generosity creates meaningful opportunities for our members today while laying a strong foundation for the future. Together, you are shaping a lasting legacy of impact within Theta Phi Alpha.
