The Support Group (TSG) is a (501c3) nonprofit organization servicing Chicagoland under-served youth from diverse backgrounds and communities since 1989. TSG provides youth with invaluable experiences that will assist them in reaching their full potential, while arming them with tools and skills needed to matriculate prepare them for post-secondary education, the workforce and beyond. The Support Group is the brain-child of the Executive Director, Bennie Henry. The Support Group has touched thousands of lives over the years. In 2019 it will be 30 years of service in the Chicagoland community.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of The Support Group is to create an overall balance that affords unlimited opportunities for young men and women to excel and succeed. This is accomplished through educational programs, team-building activities, athletic programs which enhance critical thinking skills, and character building. Our goal is to ensure that youth become productive citizens.

The Lunch with a Leader initiative affords students 7th -12th grade the opportunity to network with key businesses, faith based and community leaders. The objectives for the students are

➢ Build and enhance leadership skills ➢ Improve communication skills ➢ Acquire networking skills ➢ Obtain career advice

Deliverables and Anticipated Outcomes The goal of Lunch With A Leader is to ensure that students receive an invaluable experience, acquire meaningful skills and career advice. The program’s impact will be proven by: 

Student’s active participation and engagement in program activities

Measurable improvement in student’s grades

Student’s progress in pursuing higher education (research colleges, complete applications for admission, apply for financial aid, etc.)

Student’s progress in employment preparation activities (resume writing, interviewing skills, etc.)

Level of student’s interaction with mentor

Content and composition of student’s essay

Growth in maturity (approach with peers and adults, problem-solving, critical thinking etc.)

Student’s ability to address an audience (presentation skills)
