why we are important WE UNCOVER THE TRUTH The Sunflower prides itself on having a well researched-team of investigative journalists. We are here to give a voice for the student body and hold those accountable that would otherwise wouldn’t be.
WE WIN AWARDS Over the past four years, The Sunflower staff has won over 100+ awards including The Kansas Collegiate Media All Kansas Award, Kansas Sunshine Coalition’s Above and Beyond Award and the National Scholastic Press Association’s 2nd Place award in Best of Show. In years past, many Sunflower editors have also taken home the highest honor of Journalist of the year- an award only given to journalists that go above and beyond their duties.
WE GIVE VOICES TO THOSE WHO CAN’T SPEAK The Sunflower offers Letters to the Editor, an opinion line and even guest columns to students, faculty wanting to express an opinion. The Sunflower prides itself as an organization for providing a voice for the student body.
WE ADAPT The Sunflower has been the longest running student organization on Wichita State’s campus, since 1896. We continue the tradition to this day of putting out a print edition every Monday and Thursday — but that doesn’t mean we are behind the times. The Sunflower editors pride themselves on delivering up-to-date news on our social media platforms and also on our website. Just because we are a newspaper, doesn’t mean we don’t know how to adapt.
