Do you love Christmas? Or is there a constant ache in your heart? Missing loved ones no longer here on earth can be so challenging. Never more so than this most special time of year when ‘having fun’ might feel, at best, like a struggle and, at worst, a betrayal of your love.
In our first Christmas Newsletter edition, Kate offers some comforting advice in her article below, and I want to tell you a little more about creating special memories with our book range.

Christmastime is hard when someone you love has passed away and, perhaps even more so, when that someone is YOUR child. The season is celebrated as a special family time when families and loved ones get together, and children eagerly immerse themselves in the wonders of this magical holiday. It’s difficult to share in the joy of the Christmas festivities when the very essence of the day highlights the absence of your child. There may be special ornaments hung on the tree in memory of your child and even a stocking with their name on it. In my family, we light a special candle for Sam and take a quiet pause in the day to remember him. But despite these acknowledgements, there is a Sam-sized hole in my heart that just cannot be filled. The significance of our loved ones, which we celebrate at Christmastime, reminds me of all that I have, but also all that I have lost. It is poignant for me that our very first Loss Book was gifted to my family on Christmas day eleven years ago. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room as unsuspecting siblings and cousins ripped off the wrapping paper to discover the book. Each year, I try and find new ways to include Sam in the day, but the gift of my book, with his name boldly printed on the front cover, will never be surpassed. Soon, the season is behind us, and a new year begins, filled with hope but also a pang of sorrow. We carry our children into the new year in our hearts.
