7.8-MAGNITUDE earthquake hit southern Mindanao yesterday killed at least 31 people after toppling buildings and sparking tsunami warnings across the region, local officials said.

National disaster authorities said at least a dozen people were still missing, while 134 had sustained injuries. THE official Senate website on Monday updated its roster to feature Senator Sherwin Gatchalian as the new Senate President Pro Tempore, and removed the title of Senate President from the profile of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano. Cayetano insisted however, that he remains the rightful Senate president, maintaining that his adversaries lacked the necessary votes to reorganize the chamber and replace key officers like Senate Secretary Jose Luis Montales with Bantug.

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has dismissed allegations that he accepted suitcases containing cash at his residence in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, with Malacañang describing the claims as false and unsupported by evidence. Meanwhile, Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Erwin Tulfo announced his decision to inhibit himself from leading the investigation into the alleged flood control scandal.
