Minority seeks ouster of Sotto ahead of trial
SP leaves fate to ‘God’s plan’ but rivals still 2 votes short
By Ram Superable
S
ENATE President Vicente Sotto III said Sunday he was leaving his political fate to “God’s plan” as the minority in the chamber tries to get the 13 votes required to unseat him ahead of the expected impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte this month. “I heard (about the leadership shakeup rumors). As always, I serve at the pleasure of my peers. I uphold and follow the Constitution! I leave everything to God’s plan,” Sotto said in a statement. The rumors surfaced as the House of Representatives prepares to vote Monday on the articles of impeachment against Duterte. If approved by at least onethird of House members, the complaint will be transmitted to the Senate for trial. Minority needs 13 votes to unseat Sotto Manila Standard learned that the Senate minority, led by Minority Leader Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, was wooing at least two of their peers to switch sides, but their total would only come up to 11 senators, still two short of the required number to depose Sotto. Online reports claimed Duterte’s allies in the Senate were seeking to remove both Sotto and Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson and

PDP to blacklist backers of VP Sara impeachment THE Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP Laban) on Sunday said it would neither support nor allow politicians who back the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte to run under its political banner. “Those who vote for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte cannot expect political refuge in PDP. They will not be allowed to cross over to the party,” the PDP Laban said in a statement. "They will be blacklisted from running under the PDP banner. And where necessary, PDP will field and support a competitive candidate in their district,” it added. PDP Laban pointed out that this move is not a “threat” but a matter of “political accountability,” as it described what it called a “politically driven impeachment.” “PDP will not be a shelter for officials who participate in what we view as a partisan attempt to overturn the will of more than 32 million Filipinos who elected Vice President Sara Duterte," the PDP Laban said. “No refuge. No party endorsement. No PDP banner for those who betray the people’s mandate,” the statement added. Sara's brother, Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, was appointed as PDP Laban president in April. Baste was elected as vice mayor of Davao City with his father as his running mate in 2025. More alleged Mabanta victims reaching out to NBI By Pot Chavez
alleged links and knowledge on the extra-judicial killings during his stint as Davao City Police chief and Davao Regional Police Office Director. In a press briefing held at Camp Crame,
NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag revealed that several individuals have reached out to authorities claiming to be alleged victims of the group of social media personality Franco Mabanta. He made the remark following the temporary release of Mabanta, who posted bail in connection with a robbery-extortion case. “When Franco Mabanta’s arrest was reported, no joke, around 200 people called and sent text messages trying to insinuate that something similar also happened to them,” Matibag said in an interview on PRTV Prime Media’s Kwatro Alas program on Saturday. “They were not direct, but they were saying, ‘It’s good they were arrested because that is really what they do,’” he added.
