Hundreds mark 38th EDSA People Power anniversary
MARCOS: MUCH TO LEARN FROM STUDYING HISTORY PRESIDENT Marcos urged the public to study history as the country marked the 38th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
SEVERAL groups gathered to commemorate the 38th EDSA People Power Anniversary with a wreath-laying ceremony at the People Power Monument yesterday. The historic monument is just a few meters away from the military camp where thousands once converged to call for the return of democracy in the country. Family members, friends, and supporters of democracy icons and martial law victims were among those who attended the event organized by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. “Our workers are enduring tough times, and as their representatives, it is imperative that we find substantial solutions to alleviate their financial burdens,” Dalipe said, noting that Filipinos are grappling with inflation and decreased purchasing power. Speaker Martin Romualdez earlier tasked the House leadership to explore options for boosting workers' take-home pay, including a legislated wage increase or revisions to the regional wage board system. The House committee on labor and employment will prioritize reviewing existing wage hike proposals, including one from Trade Union Congress of the Philippines party-list Rep. Raymund Mendoza for a P150 across-theboard increase. Next page
BFAR: Filipino fishers back at Bajo de Masinloc MORE Filipino fishermen are now fishing in the Bajo de Masinloc or Scarborough Shoal despite the presence of Chinese Coast Guard and militia vessels, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said Sunday. BFAR spokesman Nazario Briguera said almost 45,000 liters of diesel fuel, 217 liters of potable water and 20 gallons of fresh water were supplied to fisherfolks during the latest resupply mission at the shoal. “The good thing about this is that, compared to our previous mission, the number of Filipino fishing boats that were given aid has increased. From 21 in the past, now at 44,” he said in an interview with SuperRadyo dzBB. Bajo de Masinloc is 240 kilometers (150 miles) west of the Philippines' main island of Luzon and nearly 900 kilometers from the nearest major Chinese land mass of Hainan. It has been a flashpoint between the countries since China seized it from the Philippines in 2012. Next page
