ALLATER—Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history and an icon instantly recognizable to billions of people around the world, died at her Scottish Highland retreat on Thursday (early Friday in Manila). She was 96.

ON THIS month 52 years ago, Queen Elizabeth II met the young Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Buckingham Palace – one of hundreds, if not thousands, of Filipinos privileged to meet Britain's longest-serving monarch in person across her seven decades on the United Kingdom’s throne. Marcos Jr., then 12 years old, accompanied his mother, then-First Lady Imelda Marcos, during an audience with the Queen. PBBM joins world leaders in paying tribute PHILIPPINE officials led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's and the world’s longest-serving monarch, who died on Sept. 8 at the age of 96. Mr. Marcos joined leaders from every corner of the globe, who briefly united in homage to the United Kingdom’s ruler, who died at her Scottish home at Balmoral Castle. "She exemplified to the world a true monarch's great dignity, commitment to duty, and devotion to all those in her realm," the President said in a statement. He lauded the Queen's dedication and

service and said Filipinos "developed a great sense of affection for her as a Queen, as a mother, and as a grandmother." "The world has lost a true figure of majesty," the President added.
