From humble beginnings in a church basement to our modern state-of-the-art studio, through its 42 year history, Stage Door School of Dance has become the premier dance studio on Long Island. SDSD was established by Diane and James Giattino as a family focused studio in 1976, built on a passion for theater and dance. Today, their daughter Mary Giattino-Styles draws from that same passion to provide a dance education that is truly unique. Our studio focuses on the individuality of our dancers; fully devoted to providing a supportive atmosphere for all dancers whether they are on our competition team or our recreational program. SDSD offers classes for people of ALL ages, ALL skill levels, and ALL commitment levels. Our Fall Schedule offers 115+ classes, ages ranging from 18 months through adults, Boys and Girls, beginners to advanced dancers ALL can find their perfect class in our ’17-’18 schedule! We offer classes in every genre imaginable including: Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Ballet, Lyrical, Acro and Musical Theatre! Younger dancers can enjoy our Parent & Me (18-29 months), Broadway Babies (2.5 years+), Twinkle Tots (3 years+), and Shining Stars (4 years+), where they learn creative movement, improve social skills, and begin to grow as not only a dancer but as an individual through the fundamentals of ballet, tap, and jazz. Our revolutionary DanceAbility program enables dancers with special needs to join in on the fun! Each dancer is paired with a dance “shadow” to guide them during class. Stage Door Dancers have been inspiring the local dance/theater community for years! Our dancers can be seen regularly performing at theaters such as John W. Engeman Theatre of Northport and at The Gateway Playhouse of Bellport/Patchogue. SDSD Students have performed on Broadway in shows such as Matilda, Kinky Boots, Les Miserables, and Sound of Music. Owner, Mary Giattino-Styles as a Stage Door alumni herself began her career right here in Bellport/Patchogue. Mary has incredible credentials as a choreographer and dancer, including the Radio City Rockettes and the Broadway productions of 42nd St., Billy Elliot, White Christmas, Fun Home, Dear Evan Hansen and more! All of the faculty at SDSD teach with a true passion for dance and education - and it definitely shows! How to Choose The Right Ballroom Dance Shoes

Unless you are focusing on a particular dance style, beginning dancers can pretty much choose any style you’d like. Though, when you first learn to dance, it’s almost inevitable to get stepped on once in a while, so you may consider getting closed toe shoes as they provide some protection for your pedicured toes. 3. HEEL HEIGHTS The heel height for Latin and ballroom dance shoes ranges from 1.5” to 3”. For beginning dancers, you should choose a heel height that gives you the most comfort. If you are not accustomed to wearing heels, you may want to start with shoes that have a lower heel to start with. Also, there are different shapes of heel, such as slim and flared. A flared heel is a popular choice as it gives you more stability. For men’s dance shoes, a 1” heel is designed for ballroom dance styles while a 1.5” Cuban heel is designed

for Latin dance styles. Unless you are participating in dance competitions, a 1” heel is generally sufficient for both ballroom and Latin dancing. 4. SUEDE SOLE SHOES It is recommended to have a suede sole for your dance shoes. The suede sole gives you the right amount of slip and traction so that you can feel more balanced and have more control when turning and moving around the dance floor. Every once in a while, you need to brush the suede sole with a wire dance shoe brush to maintain its roughness. 5. BUYING DANCE SHOES ONLINE VS. IN STORE Whether you order shoes online or purchase them in a store, first go to a dance supply store to try on some shoes. Since sizing can vary from brand to brand, it is best to try and compare various brands, sizes and models to ensure you find the right fit.
