Ofﬁcials Break Ground for New Mastic Beach Ambulance Headquarters

MB Ambulance Groundbreaking Historical Society Dedicates Museum and Honors Weber’s Suﬀolk County Legislator Tom Muratore once again spent a busy weekend attending community events in his district. Legislator Muratore, Brookhaven Town Clerk Donna Lent and Councilman Kevin LaValle attended the Farmingville Flea Market, sponsored by the Farmingville Residents Association. The oﬃcials also participated in the Ronkonkoma Historical Society’s Museum dedication, honoring Paul and Sandy Weber on their retirement and the closing of the community’s iconic Agnew and Taylor Hardware store. “I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a beautiful fall day,” stated Legislator Muratore. “The residents and community leaders love their respective hometowns, as evidenced by the turnout at each event. I am especially appreciative of the opportunity to recognize the Webers as they close a chapter in Ronkonkoma history. Agnew and Taylor Hardware Store’s history dates back to 1899, and it is sad to say goodbye.”

Win-Win for North Patchogue Fire Department and Eastern Suffolk Boces

We must keep our focus and determination and play one match at a time.” The Colonials are led by three time AllCounty player senior Brooke Fernandez, as well as junior Hailey Loughlin and sophomore Alyssa Drell. Team members also include seniors Briana Gonzalez, Alivia Cagliano, Delaney Kane, Chloe DeGrauw, Emily Drell, Katie Senetto, Jessica Jones and Paige Lyons; and freshman Saskia DaSilva. K of C and Kiwanis Host Drug Informational Forum Over ﬁfty community leaders, elected ofﬁcials and counselors attended a special forum last week on the “Growing Opioid Drug Problem” facing families today. The forum was held at the Knights of Columbus hall in Mastic and was hosted by the James V. Kavanagh Knights of Columbus Council and the Mastic Shirley Kiwanis Club. The forum provided valuable information to families about how to recognize signs of a possible drug problem with your children and where help can be found.

On September 16th, Supervisor Ed Romaine attended the Patchogue Fire Department’s 5th Annual Brush Truck Training Competition and Fundraiser at Fireman’s Park in Ridge. Teams demonstrated their brush ﬁre ﬁghting skills while competing in four different contests. If You Don’t Stand For Our National Anthem, Maybe It’s Time to Find a New Place to Live!

 

Over the last few days the controversy over sports players      once  again refusing to stand during the National Anthem to protest that “Black Lives Matter” has continued.

  The issue was sparked again by comments made by President  

Trump saying he felt it was wrong that sports players did not   stand during the National Anthem.  Trump said Friday that NFL owners who see players   “disrespecting the flag” should say “get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he’s fired.”        These   sports players are attempting to use their positions as     sports professionals to protest the killing of minorities by police  officers.  We are strong believers in our citizen’s right to peaceful  protesting, however doing this during the National Anthem is   wrong. Period.  It is disrespectful to the men and woman who have fought  and died to make our nation safe and free.     It is disrespectful to the men and woman who are serving in   our armed forces today, fighting terrorism at home and abroad.    These players are using their position, their team, and their     fans express their public beliefs and or opinions while getting  to paid millions of dollars to play sports.  Although people are entitled to their opinions, expressing  them at or during work is not appropriate.     We agree there is no place for violence against citizens   regardless of race, color or beliefs.    We  also believe there is no place in society for violence  against police officers.   Where were these famous sports players when a police officer     is injured    or killed? Why didn’t they speak out then? Why didn’t  they protest then?   It’s timeto check your opinions at the door when going to    work and being paid millions of dollars to play a sports game.  And for the record, The South Shore Press believes that all  lives matter.

7-Eleven’s Unprecedented Intrusion into Brookhaven Town Dear Editor; Thank you for the article in the 9/20/17 edition of The South Shore Press that shined a light onto the disturbing fact of the wholesale invasion of 7-Eleven convenience stores into our towns and hamlets. Brookhaven Hamlet is being subjected to the same unnecessary and undesired intrusion into our community that is being suffered by Patchogue, Medford and who knows where else, since a lot of this activity seems to be kept very much under the radar until it is just about too late for area residents to do anything about it. That is what happened to us. In the above referenced article, a Brookhaven Town councilman is quoted as saying “… we, as a Town Board, take very seriously into consideration what the local civics have to say.” Huh? In what way, then, might one explain how in the world this looming intrusion, with all its attendant negatives, would be permitted entrance into our historic little community?

The band “Brooklyn Time Machine” entertained the entire day with music from the 50s and 60s. Their generosity in giving their time and talent is greatly appreciated. You’ve made your point. But don’t lay this on 18 members.”

Legislator Rob Trotta of Fort Salonga said, “Under current contracts, the Suffolk County “PBA and all the [county] police unions got a 3.5% raise every year for eight years at a cost of $400 million.” Mr. Trotta, a retired Suffolk Police detective said, “My point is, we are already setting the example by taking either the cost of living or below while they get three times that. I think this is nothing more than an election year ploy. I can live without the money, but I feel for the other legislators here who are supporting families on it.” Legislator Rob Colarco of Patchogue said: “I do this as a full-time job. I don’t have another job….I have three little ones…I am fortunate enough to be a county legislator in a county where I have a salary that earns enough that I can do this as a full-time job.” Legislator Sarah Anker of Mount Sinai said that ‘being a single mom with three kids…it’s not easy. But the amount of money we make is substantial.” Robert Lipp, director of the legislature’s Budget Review Office, reported at the meeting that there would be, based on 1.09% automatic pay increases over the past four years, an annual savings of $25,789 with the proposed freeze. This Legislature concludes that automatic pay increases for elected officials cannot be justified at a time when the County of Suffolk is facing grave budget challenges.

County Clerk’s Office Provides 24 Hour Service County Clerk Judith Pascale and the Suffolk County Clerk’s Office have expanded its on-line land record retrieval system and Land Record & Court Hotline to provide access 24-hours a day. The information online is available in index form only, and does not contain images of the actual records. However, access to this information is an incredibly useful tool for the residents, and businesses that service the residents, of Suffolk County. After locating a record, copies can be purchased from the county clerk’s office. Currently, indexes to deed, mortgage, judgment, lien, UCC, business certificate and corporation records are available via the website. Additionally, the automated telephone service is available 24/7 and

allows attorneys, title professionals, banks, as well as the general public, to enter their tax map property identiﬁcation number and/or Supreme Court Index number into an automated system that will provide recent activity, i.e. deed transfers, mortgage satisfactions and/or court ﬁlings. THE DEATH OF A PET Typically, childrenâ€™s ďŹ rst experience with death is when a pet dies. Even if itâ€™s only a goldďŹ sh, the loss may upset the child who cared for it. A parentâ€™s instinct may be to lessen the impact by running out to buy another ďŹ sh. But coping with death of a pet helps children prepare for other, harder deaths. Explain that death is ďŹ nal and your child is not to blame. Answer any questions and allow him to express his feelings. CONFRONTING THE LOSS OF A RELATIVE OR FRIEND When a loved one dies, tell the child about it in direct, honest and unambiguous terms. Say why the person dies: â€œGrandpaâ€™s heart wore out.â€? Explain he will not return. Children do not want philosophical explanations so much as reassurance that their parents will be around to care for them and that they will be around to be cared for. If your child asks, â€œAre you going to die?â€? or â€œAm I going to die?â€? you can answer, â€œYes, but not for a very, very long time.â€? As you talk, use touch as well as words, hugging and caressing your child to help allay the fears of abandonment that he will feel when someone important dies. HOW CHILDREN PERCEIVE DEATH Your childâ€™s questions will give you clues as to what he is capable of comprehending. For example, a child under three years old typically perceives death as just another form of separation, and while he needs to be told that the missing person is dead, the ďŹ nality of the event is beyond his imagining. What is meaningful and disturbing to a toddler is the disruption of routine. Everyone seems distracted; grownups cry; meals and nap schedules go by the wayside, and the child cannot get the attention he is used to. All of this threatens his sense of security. The best way to help the toddler is to restore his routines as quickly as possible, in an atmosphere that is consistent, loving and familiar. Only sometime after the age of six does the average child begin to be able to accept the notion that a particular person is â€œirreversiblyâ€? dead! For this reason, be careful not to explain death in confusing terms. Do not say Grandma has gone on â€œa long journey,â€? as the child may likely think Grandma will come back one day. By the same token, do not say that someone has â€œgone to sleep forever,â€? as your child may become scared of going to sleep.

With this victory under his belt, Suffolk County Republican Chairman John Jay LaValle is poised for victory in the upcoming November elections. At the Suffolk County Committee’s fundraiser hosted by Chairman LaValle at Dublin Deck in Patchogue, LaValle evoked a winning spirit as a Trump delegate from the 1st Congressional district; he validated the committee’s ability to win with past victories for state assembly, congress and numerous town and county elected positions. Always an eclectic mix of attendees at the committee’s fundraisers, he secured another successful event for the party he has led since 2009.
