Governor Hochul Announces Opening of New $28 Million Supportive and Affordable Housing Development in Suffolk County
Governor Kathy Hochul announced last week, the completion of a new $28 million affordable and supportive housing development in Port Jefferson Station in the town of Brookhaven. Liberty Station offers 77 affordable homes with 45 apartments reserved for people in need of support services, including formerly homeless veterans. “With its affordable homes, health services and gorgeous grounds, Liberty Station is now a permanent piece of the Port Jefferson Station community - and the residents of Brookhaven will benefit as a result,” Governor Hochul said. “Making it possible for people to access stable, supportive homes that they can afford is one of the principal missions of my administration, and it is one that we will continue to fulfill.” Liberty Station consists of six twostory residential buildings with 75 one-bedroom apartments and two twobedroom apartments. Rents are set to be affordable to individuals and households with incomes up to 50 percent of the Area Median Income. The supportive apartments will assist veterans and those who were previously homeless. Liberty Station is receiving services from and funded by the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) through the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH). The developer and supportive service provider
is Concern Housing, Inc.

The development includes a community center with a computer room, exercise room and staff offices. There are two gardens on the property and a walking path with six fitness stations. The development is close to a full range of retail services and is connected by a public bus route to the Long Island Rail Road’s Port Jefferson train station.
HCR Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas said, “We must work together to fight homelessness and housing insecurity, as well as address the needs of veterans whose service to our country must not be forgotten. Liberty Station is one piece of the solution, and I am grateful to Concern Housing for getting this $28 million development built despite the challenges of the COVID pandemic, which has laid bare how important a safe, affordable home is to the health of individuals and our communities. HCR is committed to expanding access to quality affordable housing opportunities on Long Island and across the state.”
Liberty Station meets Enterprise’s Green Community standards and was built in accordance with New York State’s policy of supporting sustainable and affordable development. In addition to equipping each apartment with Energy Star-rated appliances, the development is designed to conserve water and the landscaping includes surface storm water management features. State funding for Liberty Station includes more than $18 million in equity from Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and more than $6.3 million in subsidy from New York State Homes and Community Renewal. The Community Preservation Corporation is providing a $1.45 million permanent loan funded through their partnership with the New York City Employees’ Retirement Systems, Suffolk County provided $900,000 and the Home Depot Foundation donated $300,000. OMH has provided $382,000 in start-up funding through a program development grant, and $1.1 million in annual support
Liberty Station is part of the state’s $20 billion, five-year effort to provide New Yorkers with access to safe, affordable housing. The plan, now in its final year, makes housing accessible and combats homelessness by building and preserving more than 100,000 units of affordable housing and 6,000 units of supportive housing. Over the last decade on Long Island, HCR has invested $366 million to finance nearly 2,900 affordable apartments in multifamily developments, an investment that leveraged more than $272 million in funding from other sources. Senator Anthony Palumbo Announces over $280,000 in State Aid for Library Construction for Suffolk Cooperative Library System
Senator Anthony Palumbo (R,CNew Suffolk) today announced that the Suffolk Cooperative Library system has been allocated over $280,000 in state aid for library construction funds in the First Senate District. The funds will enable three area libraries to enhance access and accessibility to their facility, update security, and provide new workstations for staff and patrons. Senator Palumbo, a former Library Board Vice President and longtime advocate for the region’s libraries noted that the funds are from $14 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects provided in the FY2020-2021 State Budget. “Libraries are an important education tool for the communities they serve, providing invaluable tools, services and resources for students, families and seniors,” said Senator Palumbo. “These institutions of learning served as critical hubs of information and support throughout the pandemic and this funding will help to ensure they are able to provide all residents with a safer and more accessible library experience.” Libraries in the First Senate District receiving State construction funding are: Cutchogue-New Suffolk Free Library for the installation of internal and external security
cameras to promote safety and security of all library staff and patrons ($8,782.00). Mattituck-Laurel Library for site Improvements including outdoor multi-function green space with a reconfigured entrance and parking lot that will increase parking capacity ($224,231.00). Montauk Library for fabrication and installation of staff and patron workstations throughout the library ($47,000.00). New York’s public libraries are in urgent need of renovation and upgrading. A recent survey showed a documented need for public library construction and renovation projects totaling more than $1.5 billion. Over half of the over 1,000 public library buildings in communities across New York are over 60 years old. Another one third are more than three decades old. Many of New York’s local public libraries are unable to accommodate users with disabilities, are energy inefficient, cannot provide Internet and computer and other electronic technologies to users because of outdated and inadequate electrical wiring. Many do not have sufficient space to house the library’s expanding collection, address the need for adequate meeting room, or provide for public access computers. In the FY2021-2022 State Budget, the Legislature provided $34 million for projects that will be announced in Summer 2022.

DeStefano First Responder Recognition Approved by Governor A long-sought goal of Assemblyman Joe DeStefano— recognition of emergency dispatchers and operators as “First Responders”—was approved by the governor during a special 9-11 ceremony that recognized the importance of these front-line workers. “It was clear all through the legislative process that emergency dispatchers and operators were due the proper recognition and support for the important work they do in keeping us safe,” said Assemblyman DeStefano, who rallied support for the bill. “Day in and day out, these public safety experts demonstrate their value, especially during crises such as 9-11 and the emergencies many of us could face at some point in our lives. We have now demonstrated our appreciation and support for them.” The First Responder designation qualifies emergency dispatchers for benefits and protections, including vital training opportunities, as well as assistance in coping with the mental and physical symptoms suffered as a result trauma and other pressure from the job,
DeStefano explained. Lobbying for the measure alongside DeStefano was Dan Leveler, president of the Suffolk Association of Municipal Employees. “Dispatchers are the nucleus of any emergency event,” Levler said. “They send out the first wave of help while simultaneously providing lifesaving instructions. There was never any doubt that they are first responders.” Another supporter of the bill, Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio, predicted there will be thousands of job openings in emergency operations and not enough qualified and willing participants to fill them. “We are facing a staffing shortage as it is due to the previous failure to recognize dispatchers as first responders,” she said. “This resulted in inadequacies in wages, work environments, training, and services for those at high-risk. This recognition is necessary to maintain the high level of emergency services the public expects.” In signing the legislation during a 9-11 ceremony in
Manhattan, Gov. Kathy Hochul said, “These laws will help not only first responders who were at the World Trade Center on that terrible day and those who cleaned the site for weeks afterward, but also the emergency dispatchers and communications personnel who keep us safe today. We will ensure they receive the support and benefits they deserve.” She also signed bills enabling first responders to apply for benefits online and expanding the definition of those who responded to the World Trade Center attacks for the purpose of joining the state retirement system. As a public safety communications supervisor in the Suffolk Sheriff’s office for 27 years, DeStefano said he knows first-hand how important these dedicated individuals are to the emergency management system. “They are the first to answer a call for help and are a calming, knowledgeable presence in the time of an emergency. They are engaged at the very beginning of any emergency event and provide life-saving assistance. This bill shows that we care about them as much as they care about us.”

Bellport Water Main Upgraded
Nearly 4,000 Feet of Pipe Improvements for Michigan Ave & Patchogue Ave. Suffolk County Water Authority contractors this week began replacing of 3,935 feet worth of old, undersized water main in Bellport, improving the neighborhood’s distribution network and ensuring proper fire protection for area residents. Undersized transite water main along Michigan Avenue and Patchogue Avenue will be replaced with new larger diameter ductile iron pipe, which is more resistant to breaks, will improve fire flow and is expected to last well over 100 years. “Tie-ins” will be installed at Martha Avenue, Hampton Avenue, Brookhaven Avenue and Post Avenue to improve system flow and overall resiliency.
“I am happy to partner with the Suffolk County Water Authority to bring a clean and reliable water source to the residents of Bellport,” said Suffolk County Legislator Jim Mazzarella, who represents Bellport. “The Water Authority has been extremely helpful to my office and I look forward to working with them on other projects throughout my Legislative District.” SCWA contractors will be installing the new pipe over the next two weeks, working from Martha Avenue towards Patchogue Avenue. Following completion of the main installation, residential connections will be switched from the old main to the new main. According to SCWA Pipeline Inspector Andrew Skurka, residents should only
be without service for about 10 minutes while the switch is made. SCWA representatives will knock on doors to inform residents when it’s their turn to be switched over. All fire hydrants along the project route will also be replaced with newer models. “We identified this section of Bellport for a proactive water main improvement project because we saw how much they could benefit from additional tieins,” said SCWA Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations Joe Pokorny. “These blocks were serviced by an existing water main, but not every street was connected underground. When a network of pipes is all connected it prevents water from sitting stagnant, which can improve water quality in addition to fire flows in the event of an emergency.” The Bellport
South Country Students Gain Educational Advantage with AP Capstone With the inauguration of an AP Capstone Research course at South Country High School, students will have the opportunity to earn the prestigious AP Capstone designation on their diplomas.
“We wanted to ensure we instituted the best model,” said O’Hagan. “We spoke to colleagues in other districts and made decisions based on our research.”
“We are so excited to offer this program,” said Jack Burke, director of STEM. “Through Capstone, our students will move on to their college experience ahead of their peers.” To earn an AP Capstone diploma, students are required to complete both AP Capstone Seminar and AP Capstone Research. The AP Capstone Seminar course was first offered during the 2020-21 school year, with the goal to provide AP Capstone Research this year. The two courses were designed under AP Capstone guidelines and following research and implementation by Burke and Jackie O’Hagan, director of humanities.
Their hard work resulted in a two-year AP Capstone sequence that provides students with an experience that will demonstrate their high level of achievement, allow them to excel in Advanced Placement courses and set them apart when applying for college. The yearlong AP Capstone Seminar focuses on a high level of academic writing through team
and individual presentations that students must complete during the course of the school year. Students are encouraged to take the class, which is co-taught by Kristen Fehr-Thompson and John Bishop, during their sophomore year. Currently, there are close to 125 students enrolled in the course. The AP Research class, cotaught by Christine Bellante and Andrew Budris, currently has 45 juniors participating. The course provides the tools for students to execute a research project of his or her choosing. At the end of the course, students must present their 4,000- to 5,000-word research paper that is modeled after a doctoral dissertation. “The work students complete in [AP Capstone] is levelappropriate, but similar to work they will complete in college or postgraduate studies,” said Burke. “They become independent researchers, exploring academic areas that interest them.”

public-benefit corporation operating under the authority of the Public Authorities Law of the State of New York. Serving approximately 1.2 million Suffolk County residents, the Authority operates without taxing power on a not-for-profit basis.
South Country Thespian Earns Merit Award South Country High School senior Emma Butler, a talented actress and singer, has been recognized with an award of merit as part of the Long Island Arts Alliance’s annual ScholarArtist Awards. She was one of 20 students from across Long Island to be selected for the honor after being nominated by her school. To qualify, Butler had to submit a video recording of a song and a monologue, as well as an essay. She sang “A Part of That” from the musical “The Last Five Years” and performed a monologue from the musical “Now. Here. This.” Both the song and the monologue, she said, resonated with her. For her essay, she wrote about how the arts have enriched her life. “It wasn’t difficult to write about the arts in my life,” Butler said. “Theater has been a part of me since my first production in the fifth grade.” Since she first took the stage, she has continued to perform in annual school productions and was recently cast in her first professional show at the Studio Theater of Long Island. She will

be performing in the chorus in a production of “Aida.” “I love theater,” she said. “I love the sense of camaraderie and performing on stage after all the hard work we put in.” When not performing, Butler can be found reading at her local library, where she recently participated in a Battle of the Books program. She is also president of her school’s National Honor Society and a member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. She plans to study psychology in college.

On September 15, Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilwoman Jane Bonner joined members of the Rocky Point Historical Society and Suffolk County elected officials at the unveiling of a new interpretive sign in the
Rocky Point Pine Barrens. The sign commemorates the 100th anniversary of the world’s largest radio transmitting station on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Rocky Point Pine Barrens

Towers at the station were 450 feet and capable of transmitting and receiving radio signals across the ocean. On Nov. 5, 1921, President Warren C. Harding pressed a button in the White House, which officially opened the RCA Radio Central facility at Rocky Point. Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “I am proud to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first radio transmissions from Rocky Point. This new sign represents a part of our history that is not well known to most people and I expect it will bring it to the forefront for everyone to discover.” Brookhaven Town Councilwoman, Jane Bonner said,

Nick Caracappa Recognizes Boy Scout Who Coordinated School Supply Collection

When the Gentile family of Holbrook learned of Legislator Nick Caracappa’s School Supply Drive to benefit local children in the community, Ronnie Gentile contacted Caracappa’s office to say that her son Niko was looking for a Boy Scout community service project. She thought our supply drive was the perfect opportunity for Niko to earn the Star Scout Badge. In all, Niko Gentile of Boy Scout Troop #124 in Holbrook collected over 600 items to contribute to Caracappa’s school supply drive. He recently stopped by the district office to drop these items off, and Legislator Caracappa
presented Niko with a Certificate of Achievement to recognize his enormous accomplishment. “I was amazed when I saw the number of supplies Niko brought to my office,” stated Legislator Caracappa. “This project was a true community effort. Niko reached out and collected each and every supply, which he then brought to my office to be distributed to the less fortunate. Each school year, it’s important to remember that every child deserves the tools needed to be successful in school; I am proud of Niko’s efforts in helping make that happen.”
Honoring the Newest Eagle Scouts of Troop 414 On Sunday, September 12, Legislator Mazzarella joined with Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine and Boy Scout Troop 414 for the Eagle Scout Ceremony for Brendon Conner and Kurtis Chamberlain. “Having the opportunity to recognize two young leaders that have already accomplished a significant feat in their lives is a great honor,” stated Mazzarella. “Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout is truly an accomplishment you carry with you for the rest of your life.” To achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must earn at minimum 21 merit badges, serve their Troop in a leadership position, and complete a service project to benefit their community, known as their Eagle project. Brendan Conner’s Eagle Project was the construction of a drop-box for the not-for-profit organization Helping Makes You Happy in Center Moriches. This box enables people to make donations even when the building itself is closed. Kurtis Chamberlains Eagle Project was the construction of a garden table and benches for William Paca Middle School. This project allows teachers to bring students into the school courtyard to learn about horticulture and environmental sustainability. The process of working towards the rank of Eagle Scout teaches our young adults skills that will benefit them for their entire lives,” said Mazzarella. “I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for these two amazing young men.”

SUFFOLK CLOSEUP BY KARL GROSSMAN “LI HOME PRICES GO UP, UP, UP,” declared the front-page headline in Newsday last week. The article began: “Home prices reached a new high in Suffolk County…The median home price jumped to $535,000 in Suffolk last month…” And that was $10,000 more than what Peter J. Elkowitz, Jr., president and CEO of the Long Island Housing Partnership, said that the average price—$525,000—of a house in Suffolk had just gone up to. He was giving a presentation earlier in the month before Long Island Metro Business Action on “Affordable Housing, Opportunities & Obstacles.” Houses suddenly now at a median price of $535,000—quite an obstacle in finding affordable housing! What existing governmental programs are there available for people seeking help in purchasing a home in Suffolk? On the federal level, there’s the Federal Housing Administration, now part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, “helping people become homeowners since 1934,” notes HUD’s website. “How do we do it?” Because the FHA “insures the loan…your lender can offer you a better deal,” it says. And with an FHA loan there are “low down payments.” It continues: “Buying your first home? FHA might be just what you need. Your

down payment can be as low as 3.5% of the purchase price.” And there’s “low closing costs, easy credit qualifying.” We obtained an FHA loan to buy our first home decades ago in Suffolk—for $19,000 for a house in Sayville, the total not even twice the $10,000 price increase. Our FHA guaranteed 30-year 3% mortgage cost $200 a month. But for a house in the now median $535,00 range in Suffolk, affording a mortgage is difficult. Even with currently low interest bank rates, for a 30year mortgage at 3%, the payments would be $2,108 a month, according to “Mortgage Calculator” online. Various websites market houses on which owners couldn’t keep up mortgage payments and thus they got foreclosed. “Houses priced from $10,000,” several websites featuring such housing claim. But in these parts, there are no houses on which mortgages were foreclosed at even close to that price. I inputted Shirley on www. foreclosure.com and all the houses are listed between $300,0000 and $400,000. As to state programs, the HUD website outlines “resources” and under “Homeownership: New York” are the encouraging words: “Owning a home is a big part of the American Dream.” There is a section on “Getting Started” which notes that in New York State there are state “assistance programs—resources and

programs to help you buy and maintain a home.” One is run by the State of New York Mortgage Agency which describes itself as offering “low-interest mortgage loans and programs to help qualified buyers purchase their first home. process, to helping secure funds for a down payment, SONYMA is with you every step of the way.” As for Suffolk, its government website says: “Suffolk County operates several programs to support and encourage the creation of affordable and workforce housing through the Department of Economic Development and Planning and the Suffolk County housing opportunities programs.”
Then there’s the county’s Section 72(h) Affordable Housing Transfer Program. It provides for “the county to transfer parcels currently in the county’s real estate inventory”—taken because of nonpayment of taxes—”to municipalities for the construction or rehabilitation of affordable housing.” Jim Morgo related last week how he “came up with the concept” in 1987 as Suffolk’s deputy county executive for housing. “Since then, countless properties— the most expensive items in building homes—have been conveyed from the county to towns and villages and then to groups like the Habitat for Humanity and the Long Island Housing Partnership at no cost, and affordable homes have been created on these transferred properties.” More next week.

When Giants fans, and NFL fans across the league ask this question they aren’t wondering what college he went to, or where he was drafted, or even if he’s ready to take the next jump. No, what they are asking is can Jones be a capable quarterback at the NFL level? And the answer is, we still aren’t sure. After last Thursday night’s game the questions still remain unanswered, and perhaps even became foggier. This is very reminiscent of last year’s Chicago Bears team, where you have a QB (Mitch Trubisky) who shows flashes of brilliance, heavy draft capital was used on him, but no one was ever sure he’d turn the corner. Trubisky is now playing backup in Buffalo. That’s how fast things happen in the league these days. In today’s NFL you have to make a decision on your QB of the
future after year 3 and certainly year 4. Before you stop and say that’s too soon we have to look at context. Josh Allen was paid this off season after his near MVP like performance, but Baltimore has been hesitant to pay Lamar Jackson, who owns an MVP. The Super Bowl window is small, and most GM’s will tell you you have to win in that small QB rookie contract window, which is before year 5. The Giants are not close to winning. So that brings us back to Jones, and the decisions that have to be made. New York might not tell you this openly but they are clearly in an "all in on Jones" mode for 2021. This was a ‘test year’ of sorts. Dave Gettleman spent money on a top WR talent in Kenny Golladay, Barkley is back, they drafted another young receiver and Jones is set up for success. But,

The pomp and circumstance of the draft at my season long fantasy football league produces great memories and classic moments. The theatrics and staged moments make it one of the classic weekends of the entire year for me on a purely social basis. We get together on the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend every year. My 13 year old son loves to attend the draft with me every year and I have to be honest, he is a tremendous help to me. I wouldn’t trade that weekend for any other weekend during the year. My son and I talk about the draft for weeks and months afterwards and maybe one day my son will share his memories of these weekends with his children. But season long fantasy football does have its moments of sheer frustration when you lose a player to a season long injury very early in a new season like we did with Saquon Barkley in 2020. DFS does fill a necessary void for some. The hostess of our season long draft will never be confused with Giada de Laurentis in the kitchen. One year the mozzarella sticks she passed around were practically raw and still frozen. This year my son complained that the Chicken Piccata was rubbery and

is he succeeding? Jones looked good one some runs Thursday, and flashed talent. It’s clear he has athletic ability, the big body you look for in a franchise QB, a good off the field and locker room demeanor and what seems to be a solid football IQ. Yet, he doesn’t win games. That is the measuring stick in this league for QBs. So, while Jones checks a lot of boxes the only one that should matter is wins and losses. Jones is mightily lacking there. Giants fans want to buy in, but can you really buy in off of what you have watched through his career? Just as we could have asked Bears fans last season, if Jones is let go after this year, how many NFL teams are making him a starter? That is a hard truth that Jones and the Giants might have to face sooner rather than later.

Is Fantasy Football a Better Weekly Play?

It’s still possible to be competitive after suffering a season ending injury but it makes things much more difficult and decreases your chances of bringing home a title. Isn’t it nice to take a refresh each week and start from a clean slate in DFS? It isn’t fun to wake up in the morning and learn that Jerry Jeudy will miss 4-6 weeks of the football season. But when he comes back from injury I can use Jeudy in a Week #11 contest on Fan Duel for a $5 entry fee and I can win some prize fund money. If Jeudy does miss a full 6 weeks, leagues that compile final end of year statistics will see him fall in the rankings due to so much missed time. Thankfully the game is so loaded with talented wide receivers at the moment that losing Jeudy is not the same as watching Josh Jacobs get

It’s complicated. It takes a good number of hours to compute via spreadsheet. And it is not transparent at all. The results have to be double and triple checked. Nothing beats the simplicity of an ESPN Baseball League where the winner is known the night of the last
The variety of games available on Fan Duel is mesmerizing. But I love the Sunday only contests. For a $5 entry fee this week, I entered a contest with a $1 million grand prize. My two sons watch the Giants with me on most weekends and though we suffer as Giants fans we love watching the games together. Other weeks we have to wait until the outcome of the Monday night game. I like my weekly entry on Fan Duel, even if I don’t want my boys to learn about gambling at such a young age. It’s hard to say weekly or season long is better. I’ll just state that I like both right now. I’ll pass on the rubbery chicken.

So, after a couple of seasons with my new 4-stroke 3.5hp engine, (had to drop down to 3.5hp or face putting 80 pounds on the transom where formerly 40 pounds of 5hp had ridden), the engine just wasn’t as friendly to an all-out-door environment as the old 2-stroke was. Happily, my mechanic was able to address – and explain – what the changes from 2-stroke to 4-stroke means. This column is about that. The Old 2-Stroke engine – What is a “stroke”? The basics of a 2-stroke engine versus 4-stroke engine has to do with what is known as “Thermodynamic” cycle. Basically in a 2-stroke engine, the beginning of a compression stroke and the end of the combustion stroke also occurs at the same time as the intake and exhaust functions. In a 4-stroke each of these functions takes place within its own stroke. The return of the engine to its original position after going through these strokes is the “Thermodynamic” cycle – 2 strokes for the old model and 4 strokes for the newly legislated, current state of the art.
So, What’s the Problem?

These high emissions were attributed to the design inefficiency of the two-stroke motor, which had remained essentially unchanged since World War II.

What made it so inefficient?
Largely, it was this – about a quarter of the fuel and oil, mixed directly into the fuel, went unburned and thus was emitted directly into the water and air. Imagine having the gas dock operator selling you 3 gallons of gasoline and charging for 4 gallons, putting the pollution aside… The EPA estimated that one hour of operation by a 70-horsepower two-stroke motor emitted the same amount of hydrocarbon pollution as driving from New York to Los Angeles in a modern automobile – and back. 4-stroke engines emit 97% less pollution than conventional two-strokes. Why? Simple – 4-stroke outboards use the same combustion process used in automotive engines. This means that, unlike the 2-stroke engine, 4-stroke engines never have an exhaust and intake valve open at the same time. This keeps

any unburned fuel from being ejected from the engine. Also, 4-stroke engines don’t require additional lubricating oil to be blended in with the gasoline to operate and aren’t part of the exhaust, unburned or otherwise. Like your car engine, the lubricating oil is a separate system within the engine complex, stored in the crankcase, unmixed with the gasoline. Also, they burn hotter, [read: more efficiently] and thus are more efficient at gas consumption. Manufacturers quote as much a 25% better fuel mileage. (Of course, slowing down would help even
more – tests show that you burn over 50% more fuel at WOT than at mid-ranges. See what the effect on your speed over the water is if you just throttle back.
OK, So What’s the Problem Now?
Well, they are heavy. When I went to replace my 5hp engine, I found that the 4-stroke replacement weighed 80 pounds – 2x’s what the 2-stroke engine that it was to replace. When I contemplated trying to get that engine in and out of an 8-ft dinghy, floating dock-side, I said, “Ah,
But the 2-stroke guys haven’t missed some of this dialogue. The latest technology response is DFI – direct fuel injection (DFI). The required fuel mixture is injected directly into the cylinder after the piston passes the exhaust port. This prevents any unburned fuel from being prematurely forced out of the engine. DFI retains the advantages of a two-stroke engine’s efficient power cycle and lighter weight and greatly lowers pollution levels normally generated by 2-strokes. In short, they’re not your father’s 2-strokes any more.
