Destefano Calls on New Governor to Create Commission on Narcotic Deaths
By Jennine Dunn Kubik With another wave of deaths across Suffolk County from Fentanyl and other illicit drugs, Assemblyman Joseph DeStefano has called on the state’s new governor, Kathleen Hochul, to create a special commission to combat the growing epidemic. “As one of her first acts as our new chief executive, I’m calling on Gov. Hochul to find out how these lethal drugs are getting into our state and create a battle plan with all branches of law enforcement to stop them,” DeStefano said. “A lethal batch of cocaine laced with Fentanyl caused at least eight overdoses and six deaths in Suffolk over the last week with more people dying every day. We need to act fast to save lives.” According to DeStefano, an obvious place to look is the open border between the U.S. and Mexico which

The online program, accessible at SuffolkCountyNY. gov/clerk, allows homeowners to review the property records recorded on their property and
purchase a certified copy using either MasterCard or Visa. Homeowners will also be able to sign up for the Suffolk County Clerk’s Homeowner Watch List, which once enrolled will alert them via e-mail whenever a new property record is filed against their property. “I’m happy to offer these new services that allow Suffolk County residents to have access to their records twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It’s just another way we are bringing government closer to the people,” concluded Pascale.

Jim Mazzarella Seeks Re-election to Suffolk’s 3rd Legislative District By Barbara LaMonica
Suffolk County Legislator Jim Mazzarella is seeking re-election after just three months in office, after winning a special election to the 3rd Legislative District to fill the unexpired term of Rudy Sunderman. Mazzarella will appear on the Republican and Conservative lines of the ballot in November. Mazzarella said he is running for reelection to continue his community service. “My credentials and experience enable me to serve this community,” said Mazzarella, noting he is a union leader and Secretary/Treasurer for Public Service Employees Local 342. He served as trustee on the MasticMoriches-Shirley Community Library for 10 years, and five years as president, in addition to serving as trustee and president of Crystal Beach Property Owners Association. He also has been a member of the Rotary Club of Shirley and the Mastics and previously served as President. Two of what Mazzarella calls his top priorities are to ensure vital projects come to fruition, including the fish passage for Lower Lake at Yaphank
Avenue, and traffic concerns along William Floyd Parkway at Yaphank Woods Boulevard. Mazzarella explains: “A fish passage at Lower Lake will be the final connection in the Carmans River ecosystem allowing fish to travel throughout the entire river.” Mazzarella said fish passages at the Southaven Park culvert at Victory Lane and the Mill Road culvert connecting the Lower Lake fish passage are of the “utmost importance” in protecting this ecosystem. “In one of my first acts as legislator, I arranged a meeting with the Suffolk County Department of Planning and our Chief Environmental Analyst in an effort to expedite the construction of this project,” Mazzarella said. Following the bidding process, a contract was awarded, and construction of the fish passage is slated to commence during Spring 2022. On the traffic issue along William Floyd Parkway at Yaphank Woods, Mazzarella said he organized a meeting between a representative of the 7th Police Precinct, traffic engineers from the Suffolk County Department of Public Works, and representatives from the Town of Brookhaven working together with residents to discuss options for improving traffic safety and
police enforcement at the intersection. Department of Public Works engineers are subsequently tasked with taking concerns and ideas discussed at the meeting, and studying all viable traffic safety improvements, Mazzarella explained. “Our office will continually follow up to ensure that traffic calming

measures are implemented within the framework of relevant New York State Vehicle and Traffic Safety laws,” he said. Mazzarella is working on demolition of a blighted structure at
Violet’s Cove in Mastic Beach. “The building sustained severe damage during Superstorm Sandy and is presently unsafe,” he said, noting that asbestos abatement and survey work is set to launch next month. Demolition will commence once approval is issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. From a fiscal standpoint, Mazzarella said the health of Suffolk’s finances are “not” good. “Getting our fiscal house in order and improving our bond rating would go a long way in getting out of this fiscal hole we’re in,” he said. Moving forward, Mazzarella said his intentions are to focus on issues in the 3rd LD. “We have many challenges,” Mazzarella said. “Residents went to the polls in 2019 and voted for a referendums to create a sewer district,” Mazzarella said. “I’ve been working tirelessly to move the project forward, and now the Legislature is moving forward on a series of pro forma resolutions and to appropriate funding.” On the docket for the next two years if reelected, Mazzarella says he will “work very hard on increasing police presence” and moving towards safer
neighborhoods. The Park, Walk & Talk initiative he said, is aimed at engaging the police with the public and business owners. Asked what makes him the better candidate in this election, Mazzarella offered insight into his ability, but stopped short of criticizing his opponent. “I have a good handle on what makes our community tick, my civic involvement is rich and continues; I’m still involved with the Library’s Family Literacy Project,” Mazzarella said. “We work closely with Arthur H. Clune American Legion Post 1533, and,” he added, “our veterans are very near and dear, and their service to our community, and above that, to our country, is paramount.” Mazzarella exuded confidence that he will win reelection, stating “I’m very confident because I believe the electorate sees I’m working very hard every day for them.” He said daily Facebook posts can be viewed on his page. Mazzarella, his wife, Mary and their two children are all lifelong residents of the 3rd Legislative District, and graduates of William Floyd High School.

Former Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning has tossed her hat in the ring for election to Suffolk’s 3rd Legislative District against Republican incumbent Jim Mazzarella. Browning, who served in the legislature for six two-year terms, was term limited out, and will run on the Democrat line of the ballot in the November 2021 election. She lost her bid in the May 2021 special election (to fill the unexpired term of Rudy Sunderman), where she was defeated by Mazzarella. Browning is running in the November election for a myriad of reasons. She contemplated running in 2019, however, family issues prevailed, and she made the decision to wait. Then, in a subsequent turn of events in May 2021, the seat opened up and Browning made a run and lost. “Moving forward, my successor, Rudy (Sunderman), was indicted and he took a guilty plea which was extremely disappointing for the community, so I made the decision to run,” Browning said. Seeing the sewer project become a reality is a priority for Browning. “My biggest concern in the 3rd LD is seeing the sewer district that I started come to fruition,” she explained. Browning secured $300 million in federal funding for phases I and II of the sewer project, in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. “The creation of a sewer district is a very time consuming project that doesn’t
happen overnight, then COVID came,” (extending the timeline to complete the project even further), Browning said. “One big issue was where to put the plant, and we were very limited because of poor planning, and the only best location was up by the airport, and that required FAA approval, which we got. This project is my baby,” Browning continued. “After 12 years, we had term limits, and now I want to be able to see this project through to the end.” Then Browning cautioned, “What we don’t want to do is to go back to another Forge River debacle.” Looking ahead, Browning said she will be aggressively seeking federal grant revenue for phases III and IV of the sewer initiative from the newly-approved infrastructure bill that was passed in the House last week. “Thanks to the infrastructure bill being approved, we need to be in line to get this federal money to extend the sewer line to Mastic Beach, and also to address the flooding problems that we have there,” Browning added. Asked to assess the fiscal picture in the county, Browning stated, “In 2005, the economy took a downturn, there were foreclosures, and it was a time period when I was in the Legislature that was a very difficult time not only for Suffolk County, but for the entire United States,” Browning said. “When you look at the fact that the Democrats did have control, our Budget Review Office was saying that
it would take 10 to 12 years to get out of the fiscal problems we have, and right now, we do have a surplus.” Browning acknowledged the $120 million in COVID related federal aid the county will receive in each of the next two years, will help with the county’s finances. She cited the county’s recently settled lawsuits

with drug companies which she said will go a long way towards assisting and rehabilitating those who have turned to addiction. “We also need to push for much stronger regulations on sober homes, because they are a detriment and a danger to our community,” Browning said. “When I left (the Legislature), the
committee I was working with fell apart, but this is an important issue, and when I get back in office, I will continue to work with the people on this committee. It’s an important issue in our district that I am passionate about,” Browning said. Browning reported public safety will rank high on her agenda of priorities. “There are public safety issues, and we have to make sure we have the resources for local law enforcement.” Browning, whose husband is a retired New York City Police Officer, underscored the need for the county to provide Suffolk County Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, Corrections Officers, and Deputy Sheriffs with the resources, staffing and support required for them to carry out their roles in the most effective manner possible. “We have to keep on gun violence, and all crimes,” Browning continued, “because these crimes are on the rise.” On the topic of who is the better candidate to fill the 3rd LD seat, Browning candidly stated, “My 12 years of experience, the fact that I need no learning curve, and the fact that so many things I worked on having to do with sober homes recovery and drug issues fell apart after I left. make me the better candidate,” Browning said. “Also, I am a moderate Democrat, and I have the ability to work with my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. I believe if we have a good bill, it’s good for the community, and I will support
it - it doesn’t matter if a Democrat or Republican writes it. I worked with John Kennedy and former Presiding Officer Bill Lindsay, so working across the aisle is very important.” Asked how confident she is about winning the election this time around, and what, if anything she will do differently from her May 2021 campaign, Browning points to low voter turnout as the culprit. “Voter turnout in the May special election was horrendously low,” Browning said. She claims the November election will garner greater voter turnout, in part, due to the sheriff and district attorney races that will both be on the ballot. “I’m knocking on doors and talking to people on both sides of the aisle,” Browning said. Browning is a member of the MasticMoriches-Shirley Community Library’s steering committee for the Family Literacy Program. She is an auxiliary member of the VFW Post 414, Mastic Beach Property Owners Association, and the Ladies Ancient Order of the Hibernian. She is a member and past honoree of the Suffolk County Brehon Law Society. Browning and her husband, Steve, raised their daughter and two sons in the 3rd LD where they have been residents for the past 34 years. Their sons are in the National Guard, both having returned home from recent deployments.

Supervisor Romaine said, “Congratulations to the Brookhaven Fire Department for another fantastic year of dedicated service to the community. I commend the members of the Department who give so much of their time to community service protecting our residents.”

Building Language and Reading Skills Through Summer Reading The South Country Central School District students honed their language and literacy skills through the District’s virtual ENL and Dual Language Summer Story Time programs, held July 6 through Aug. 19. English Language Learners in grades K-3 and Dual Language students in grades K-4 joined the popular program through their Google Classroom accounts each Tuesday and Thursday morning for an hour of reading, writing and drawing summer fun.

Disney’s Newsies is Set to be the First Production Back on Stage at Patchogue Theatre Presented by The Gateway! (2x), Bright Star and La Cage aux Folles. Christopher Gattelli won the Tony Award for the original Broadway production of Newsies. Other Broadway credits include My Fair Lady, SpongeBob Squarepants, War Paint, Amazing Grace, The King and I, Casa Valentina, Godspell, and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
Disney’s Newsies, presented by The Gateway, will be the first full-scale professional production at the Patchogue Theatre since shutting down due to the pandemic. It will run from August 25th through September 11th. Disney’s Newsies is a musical based on the 1992 motion picture “Newsies” and was inspired by the true story of the Newsboys Stike of 1899 - the pivotable moment that forced William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer to change their view of newsies as sweatshop laborers to human beings looking to make a living. It features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner, Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots). Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe.” Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience. Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, the show is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly- a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right! Nominated for 16 theatrical awards during its Broadway run, Disney’s Newsies won Tonys for best choreography and best musical score. Originally planned to show only 101 times, due to its popularity with audience members, Newsies ended up running for 1,005 performances on the Broadway stage before touring. After touring, the film “Newsies: The Broadway Musical” was released in 2017. Newsies will star Alex Prakken as Jack Kelly. Mr. Prakken appeared in the Broadway production as Jack and has performed the role many times regionally. Katherine will be played by The Gateway veteran, Molly Rushing. Molly appeared in the title role of The Gateway’s 2015 Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and recently understudied the title role of Broadway’s Anastasia. Other principal roles include Aurelia Williams as Medda (Broadway’s Once on this Island and In Transit), David Engel as Pulitzer (Broadway’s La Cage aux Folles and in the original Forever Plaid company), Logan Alexander Marks as Davey (RENT National Tour), and Andrew Stevens Purdy
as Crutchie. The Newsies will be played by Rorey Chavarria, Mike D’Amico, Anthony DaSilva, Maurice Dawkins, Steven Etienne, Joshua Keen, Noah Lentini, Dario Natarelli, Jonathan Reyes, Ryan Rodiño, Matthew Sparks, BB Stone, and Tim Webb.
Musical Direction will be by Andrew Haile Austin. Mr. Austin returns after conducting many shows at The Gateway which include Rock of Ages, RENT, Flashdance the Musical, On Your Feet, and Elf the Musical. James O. Hansen will be the Production Stage Manager. The casting of Disney’s Newsies was conducted by The Gateway’s Associate Artistic Director, Michael Baker. Mr. Baker has been casting shows and has been the head of The Gateway School for the Performing Arts since 2012. Disney’s Newsies is presented through an arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI) with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, book by Harvey Fierstein, and is based on the Disney film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White. The Gateway’s 2021 season will continue with dazzling Broadway hits including, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (November 17 – December 4 at The Gateway Playhouse, Bellport, NY), and Holiday Spectacular on Ice (December 17 – January 1, 2022, at Patchogue Theatre, Patchogue, NY).
A concert series with Best of the Eagles will play on August 28th and Yellow Brick Road, a tribute to Elton John on August 29th at The Gateway Playhouse, Bellport, NY. Andrew & Mario Cuomo
BY KARL GROSSMAN This is about Andrew and Mario Cuomo. First, Andrew: a man of contradictions. With the dangers of nuclear power a journalistic focus of mine for decades, I thought his role in the closing of the Indian Point nuclear power plants—25 miles north of New York City (and with Long Island in accident range, too)—an act of courage. He faced fierce nuclear industry opposition. The two-plant facility shut down this past April. But while engaged in seeking to have Indian Point closed, Mr. Cuomo pushed for a $7.6 billion state bail-out to allow four aging nuclear power plants near Syracuse and also Rochester in upstate New York to keep operating. Their owners said they had become uneconomic to run. The Cuomo 2016 bail-out was linked to a “Clean Energy Standard” he advanced under which much of the electricity used in the state would come from “clean and renewable energy sources.” Under the $7.6 bail-out, the four nuclear plants were considered as producing “clean and renewable” electricity—despite green energy advocates saying this was false. Residential ratepayers, businesses and other entities including schools and governments in New York State have since been paying, and for years will continue to have to pay an added charge on their electric bills for the Cuomo nuclear bail-out.
Long Island Lighting Company, the builder and owner of Shoreham, and close the nuclear plant. As for cost, the act provided for the state to acquire the stock of LILCO, enormously reduced because of LILCO’s nuclear adventure, or to purchase LILCO’s assets.
Likewise, as the City & State website headlined, “Cuomo contradicts his own harassment law.” Mr. Cuomo, who will end being New York’s governor in a matter of days because of a major sexual harassment scandal, pushed for a less burdensome definition of sexual harassment in a law he signed in 2019. “It was a change that Cuomo celebrated and something he has taken credit for implementing,” noted City & State. But his actions, as determined by the New York attorney general, points to his having repeatedly violated this law and a cause he embraced. Mario Cuomo, in the case of the Shoreham nuclear power plant on Long Island, was as strong as his son was on Indian Point—but in the end left Long Islanders unnecessarily with a bill of also more than $7 billion. I first met Mario Cuomo when he pursued the Democratic nomination to run for governor in 1982. I was co-anchor of the evening news on the then Long Island commercial TV station, WSNL-TV/67 in Smithtown, and Mr. Cuomo came to be interviewed. The battle over the Shoreham plant was raging and I questioned him about it. He seemed unaware of much concerning nuclear power. After the taping, I suggested we sit down and I’d offer him a book I had written, published in 1980, “Cover Up: What You ARE NOT Supposed to Know About Nuclear Power.”

In authoring the book, I felt it would be helpful to reproduce as facsimiles many government and industry documents to authenticate the facts. Mr. Cuomo’s jaw dropped as he examined the documents. For example, there was the passage of a report done by Brookhaven National Laboratory on the consequences of a nuclear power plant accident declaring that “the possible size of the area of such a disaster might be equal to that of the State of Pennsylvania.” Mr.

reproduction of the “nuclear clause” that is still in every homeowner’s insurance policy in the U.S. which says: “This policy does not cover loss or damage caused by nuclear reaction or nuclear radiation or radioactive contamination.” This sit-down with Mr. Cuomo might have been a factor in his becoming opposed to Shoreham. The key to stopping Shoreham was the Long Island Power Act of 1985. Under it, the state would create a Long Island Power Authority to replace the
Citizens to Replace LILCO, the organization spearheading support for the act, called for acquisition of stock, far cheaper, it emphasized, than buying LILCO’s assets. Mr. Cuomo opposed that believing it too radical for Wall Street. So Long Island’s electric ratepayers got stuck with a far larger debt than necessary to stop Shoreham—now $7.5 billion. The Citizens to Replace LILCO chair, Maurice Barbash, spoke painfully for years about Mr. Cuomo telephoning him at his office in Babylon and, with the kind of bullying later to be closely associated with Andrew, threatening to send state auditors to look into his building business because of his group’s stance. Also, under the act, LIPA was to have a board elected by Long Islanders which would set this area’s energy policy and chart its energy future. Mario Cuomo suspended that after LIPA was founded switching to having a board of trustees appointed by three officials in Albany: the Assembly speaker, Senate president—and governor. Goodbye to a grassroots democratic energy process here.

BY TOM BARTON The commissioner of Major League Baseball, Rob Manfred, has done little right during his tenure according to most baseball fans, but Mr. Manfred and everyone in baseball should take a bow. The idea of a game being played in a corn field was met with much skepticism and even more questions. All of those doubts were answered last Thursday night, and wow what an answer. MLB decided to honor one of the greatest baseball movies of all time, A Field of Dreams, and they built a stadium to host a game in the middle of Iowa. From the very first opening ceremonies the chills had begun and the nostalgia rushed to our baseball brains with each passing minute. Kevin Costner was on hand to give the pre game speech and in true
Costner form elevated the moment for all of us. The players walked out behind him, and out of the corn fields, yes they came from the corn. What a great touch. The player introductions were old style, the walls and decor painted and displayed in a way that took us back to a simpler time, and the uniforms themselves even rang true to a time where baseball was paramount. Watching the ball fly out into the dark corn was as unique as sports can get. Sure, the game was great. A lot of home runs. The Yankees came back late only to be overtaken by the White Sox in the bottom of the 9th with a Tim Anderson home run. The iconic image of Anderson rounding the bases with fireworks going off in the distance and a corn maze just in sight will be burned into our memory

I wrote about the injury suffered by Mike Trout back in May that was originally projected to cause him to miss 6-8 weeks time to rehab his injured calf. At the time it was referred to as a Grade 2 strain of his calf muscle. Well, it is now 13 weeks later and Trout is still missing in action. To make matters worse, for the first time it is being speculated that the Los Angeles Angels may seriously consider shutting Trout down for the season. The Mike Trout saga of 2021 has no doubt cost any team in a single season format a shot at a championship this year. For those owners who took the initial prognosis on Trout’s injury there was no immediate cause for panic. Had those owners been told however that Trout would miss 13+ weeks with no clear timetable on Friday, August 13th; different options may have been considered. In some Fantasy Baseball leagues an interesting feature exists called the IL Drop. The IL Drop allows FAAB (Free Agent Auction Bidding) dollar amounts to be

Yes, it was a Field of Dreams forever. But, besides the game result the entire spectacle was a huge win for baseball, who needed a win badly. Baseball is THE unique sport where the past is celebrated more than any other. When people talk about baseball it’s always comparing generations, statistics, and instead of looking forward we look back. Many have cited just that as the problem with baseball and their lack of gaining new fans. But this night, this game, was as perfect as it could be. It let us live in nostalgia and showed us what baseball should be ... and can be again. I wonder how many fathers out there asked their sons to play catch the next day. That emotion is what baseball evokes and what this game was about to tap into.

At the time of the injury report it certainly looked like Xander Boegarts, Alex Reyes and Nick Pivetta was a reasonable trade offer for Mike Trout. But for the 2021 season, this type of trade had a disastrous impact for the team that offered such a package for Mike Trout. As was touched upon in my column in May, the long term Hall of Fame possibilities became threatened by the fact that Mike Trout has had 3 serious impact injuries dating back to 2017.
returned to a team when a player suffers a devastating injury. 13 weeks represents 50% of a 26week baseball season. A team may make the reasoned decision to put the dollars from such an injured player into more productive areas through free agent bids. A team that loses a player that was drafted in the first round that year will get a certain number of those FAAB dollars to add to their current banked amount. In NL-only or AL-only leagues, the ability to make a bid on a player traded from an American League team to a National League team, or vice versa, can be a powerful reason to store FAAB dollar amounts as an in season strategy. An owner who has waited through delay after delay in Mike Trout’s expected return to the Angels’ lineup missed that opportunity to restore those FAAB dollars to their banked amount. The inter-league trading deadline was on July 30th. Perhaps a savvy owner timed that perfectly and was able to make their IL drop in time but Mike Trout can be that

dominant over an 8 week stretch. Does all of this strategy impact you in a Dynasty format? The subtle answer is that yes it does. Depending on your league’s format, a certain number of your players get protected from the 2021 season into the 2022 season. In my ESPN mixed Dynasty League we protect 20 of the 30 players on the ESPN roster. Mike Trout is certainly worthy of inclusion
While Trout’s standing amongst the lifetime accumulated stats for the community of Hall of Famers in total hits, home runs, RBI’s and other vital counting stats is in doubt, what you can get for Trout in a trade is now seriously impaired. Everyone playing Fantasy Baseball wants to win for that season at hand, exit strategies are always subject to review and consideration. Let’s face it, the owner who bit on the “Let Me Get Trout While He’s Down and Out” apple has now
made a multi-year commitment to Trout a near certainty. It is going to take a minimum of two seasons of near perfect health to change the perceptions of Trout’s reliability. Like it or not, the total value of your Dynasty League team takes a hit if you own Mike Trout. Let’s look forward to some other devastating long term injuries. If you own Ronald Acuna Jr. in a Dynasty League, he has now suffered a hit from his torn ACL. The most precious commodity that can disappear in a hurry is not power, but speed. Playing fantasy baseball for 4 decades now, it is a very limited group of players that can attain 30 stolen bases for 5 consecutive seasons. Trust me, there are not that many players who have been able to accomplish that milestone. Grady Sizemore anyone? Rocco Baldelli anyone? Jose Altuve anyone? Take it from observation of this Trout debacle unfolding, Acuna is a big risk. Nobody knows where Luis Robert’s stolen base totals will go. Proceed with caution.

Traumatic Brain Injury in Veterans
VETERANS WAY BY REV. FREDERICK MILLER. PH.D. Going back to World War I, many of our military in combat suffered what was called “Shell Shock.” Although science and medicine had made considerable advances at the time of the war they were still in the dark about the seemingly ‘new’ disorder that was plaguing our military. Almost from the start of the war soldiers in combat began exhibiting signs of anxiety, dizziness, tremors and hypersensitivity to noise. These ailments were attributed to neurological damage caused by artillery fire. Experts believed that the concussion of enemy artillery bursts near or in the trenches the soldiers were in caused physical damage to the brain and nervous systems of soldiers leading to the symptoms described. They called it “Shell Shock.” In the year 1916 as many as 40 percent of all casualties were attributed to suffering from Shell Shock. The condition itself became controversial with many in the military’s upper echelons rejecting it outright as an excuse. By 1917,

frustrated generals went so far as to ban all diagnosis of shell shock and began to censor all references to it in official reports as well as the media. Shortly after the war a New Jersey pathologist drew attention to a symptom complex that affected professional boxers, “Punch Drunk,” a condition well known to boxing enthusiasts that appeared to result from repeated sublethal blows to the head. The symptoms were similar to those of World War I personnel who claimed to suffer from Shell Shock. Further research revealed that explosive blasts caused shock waves that either passed directly through the skull or entered the body, can be transmitted into the chest or abdominal cavities and surge to the brain by way of the bodies’ vasculature. Once in the skull, the waves advance through the brain at the speed of sound, passing through both fluid and matter, which respond differently to the wave’s properties, bruising the brain. The

blast waves seem to cause damage at the boundaries of different structures, such as between brain matter and cerebrospinal fluids and between gray and white brain matter. Actually, the
shock waves cause the brain to bang against the skull causing the damage. This damage is also similar to the concussions of football players. The term was classified as Traumatic Brain
The use of explosive materials increased in the different wars since World War I. The recent Iran and Afghanistan wars use land mines, car bombs and explosive bombs attached to people and children as their major weapons. This has led to 11 to 20 percent of all veterans having symptoms of Traumatic Brain Injury. The U.S. Department of Defense estimates that tens of thousands of veterans and military service members deployed in Iran and Afghanistan have sustained Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). However, even though TBI is a concussion of the brain and more serious than a flesh wound, those suffering TBI are denied the Purple Heart Medal. Please help us change that problem and get them the medal they deserve. We need to ask our congress to review this problem and award those veterans the medal they deserve.

Letters of Trusteeship

Q: What are Letters of Trusteeship? A:
“Letters of Trusteeship” is a court document giving the nominated trustee of a trust created under a Last Will and Testament (“Will”) the power to act. When a Will is submitted to the Surrogate Court for probate, via the filing of a Petition for Probate, the court issues “Letters Testamentary”. Letters Testamentary is a document validating the Will and appointing the decedent’s choice of executor. The executor has a duty to carry out the administration of the estate, as directed in the will. If there is a testamentary trust contained in the will, the nominated executor must request Letters of
Trusteeship. A testamentary trust is any trust created under a Will. A testamentary trustee is a person to whom Letters of Trusteeship issue. If there are no objections, the Surrogate Court will issue both Letters Testamentary and Letters of Trusteeship at the same time. At this point the trustee can fund the trust. Funding a trust simply means retitling assets in the name of the trust. The trustee to whom the Letters of Trusteeship issue has a responsibility to carry out the wishes of the testator and terms of the trust . The trustee will need Letters of Trusteeship to handle the affairs of the trust, such as opening the bank or brokerage
accounts. It is important to note that the Surrogate’s Court only issues Letters of Trusteeship for testamentary trusts. There is no need for Letters of Trusteeship from the Surrogate’s Court if the deceased left an Irrevocable or Revocable Trust. To save time, it is advisable to request Letters of Trusteeship when filing the probate petition or after Letters Testamentary are issued. If the Letters of Trusteeship are not requested until after the conclusion of the probate proceeding, then a separate proceeding must be commenced. This could lead to additional delay and expense for the estate and trust. If you are unsure if there is a testamentary trust in your

Revalue is the outcome of diligent practice of the first three steps Relabel, Reattribute, and Refocus. With consistent practice, you will quickly realize that your obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors are worthless distractions to be ignored. As your brain begins to work better, it will become easier to see obsessions and compulsions for what they really are. As a result, the intensity of your symptoms will decrease. The general principle that is embodied in the Revalue step is, The more clearly you see what OCD symptoms really are, the more rapidly you can dismiss them as worthless garbage, requiring no attention at all. The practice of the first three steps removes the fear and anxiety that OCD causes when its false messages are taken literally at “face value.” As you
