                                      The Executive Committee of the Suffolk County Republican      Committee voted to designate Ray Perini for District Attorney        and Senator Phil Boyle for Sheriff.     Ray Perini is a former Suffolk Prosecutor, and Brooklyn Prosecutor.    Ray established the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office    Narcotics Bureau. knowledge of the existence of a claim against the estate, even if the claim was not presented within the seven month period, and proceeds to distribute the estate, the executor does so at their risk and can subject themselves to personal liability for the claim. After the executor is appointed, if any credit card bills remain unpaid you will likely receive notiďŹ cation from the credit card companies or the collection agencies that a claim has been ďŹ led against the estate. This is normal procedure and is nothing to be concerned about; once claims are ďŹ led you can begin negotiating. Credit card companies or collection agencies in most instances will take settlements from estates. You have to satisfy the creditors, this does not necessarily mean pay in full. Negotiating takes some time and effort, but if there are larger balances, this effort is usually worth it. Executors should also me mindful that while credit card debts must be dealt with, the executor has a duty to pay the decedentâ€™s debts in the proper order. Credit Card debts are the last debts of the estate that should be paid if the executor thinks that the estateâ€™s debts exceed the estateâ€™s assets. The executor can be held personally liable for the failure to properly pay the debts of the estate. As you can see, paying the debts of a decedent is not always as simple as simple as writing checks to all the creditors, especially if the decedent has limited funds. It is always a good idea to consult with an attorney experienced in estate administration matters to make sure that you pay all of the debts properly so that you do not subject yourself to personal liability.

By encouraging our WRP Fitness members and staff to buy red noses, we raised over $600 for Red Nose Day. Over 600 WRP Fitness members and staff in Moriches, NY were working out on May 25, National Red Nose Day pedaling, lifting, treadmill walking and taking classes wearing their red noses. It was so successful and fun we plan on doing it again next year. Red Nose Day has raised more than $1 billion globally since its launch in the UK in 1988 and more than $20 million in the U.S. in 2016, providing funds for programs that keep children in need safe, healthy and educated, here in the U.S. and across the globe. Wandaâ€™s WRP Fitness has been involved in numerous fund raising events and has raised substantial amounts of

money for various charities, but this by far was the most FUN. It was adorable that even the children in Kids Klub wore their red noses.  Community Events & Happenings Cub Scout Pack 221 Cleans Up Brookhaven

On May 22, Supervisor Ed Romaine (back row, second from left) visited with Manorville Cub Scout Pack 221 to thank them for their participation in the 2017 Great Brookhaven Cleanup held on Saturday, May 20. Pack 221 organized over 60 volunteers to participate by picking up litter at Brookhaven Town’s Kalers Pond Park in Center Moriches, as well as Terrell’s River County Park.

Tri-Hamlet Flag Raising Ceremony The revitalized gateway to the TriHamlet community was completed in 2013 and highlighted by the statue of William Floyd. Since completion of the site, Legislator Browning has been holding an annual flag raising ceremony to appropriately retire deteriorated flags and replace them with new ones prior to Memorial Day weekend. She was joined by her Chief of Staff Josh Slaughter, veterans from American Legion Post 1533 and VFW Post 414, as well as local Girl Scouts and Boy During the ceremony everyone was taught how to properly fold an American flag and new flags were raised by our veterans and scouts. The pledge of allegiance and national anthem were performed. Scouts.

Longwood School District’s Relay for Life

On May 20, Councilman Michael Loguercio (second from right) was on-hand at the Longwood Junior High School to participate in the Longwood School District’s “Relay for Life.” Walkers in the “Relay for Life” circled the school track to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. This  year, the event raised over $34,000. New Dairy Queen For Medford

Recently, Supervisor Ed Romaine (left) and Councilman   Michael Loguercio (right) were in Medford to celebrate  the groundbreaking of the future Dairy Queen on the corner of Route 112 and Horseblock Road in Medford.   This new business, which is owned by sisters Michelle   Robey and Patricia DeMint (center), will provide many   jobs to the community and will include indoor seating   for 57 customers, patio seating and a convenient drive  thru window.



Dabney Villasenor, a William Floyd High School junior, recently took home third place in the Suffolk County District Administrative     Judges’ “Women in the   Courts” essay contest for   her essay on the topic, “Why   I Can’t Wait to Vote.” For   her efforts, Dabney received   $100. This essay contest was     part of Women’s History  Month and commemorated the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage    in New York State.   When not writing award-winning essays, Dabney serves as a justice in   the Youth & Government program, is a member of Key Club and has    participated in the New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA)  Portfolio Project and the New York State School Music Association  (NYSSMA). Congratulations, Dabney!

Memorial Day Reﬂections

 

      By Robert Chartuck  Since the Center Moriches Memorial Day Parade was rained out on Monday, I thought I’d share some thoughts and recollections of the

   event, having viewed, photographed and marched in it for more than  a half century. Living on Main Street across from Lake Avenue, mine is the first house the parade marches past, and growing up across from Bellevue  Avenue, it was one of the last. I’ve marched with the Cub Scouts, Boy  Scouts, Little League and the Center Moriches High School Band.     I get to say hello to the elected officials, firefighters, coaches and  many other friends as they go by. Mostly, I reflect on the significance of

the day and the sacriﬁce of so many to keep our nation free.    As I write this from my dining room, I can see the Roll of Honor   

monument in front of the elementary school which includes the names of family members who served in World War II: my father, Michael   Chartuk, uncle John Chartuck (he spelled his name with the extra  C),  and my aunt, Lillian Chartuk. Some of the names have asterisks signifying the soldiers died during their service.   My dad was with Naval intelligence setting up a radio station in the  Dominican Republic to intercept German Morse code messages. He was awarded   a Navy Commendation Medal for detecting a submarine wolf pack laying in wait for the Queen Mary which was carrying U.S. troops across the Atlantic. My uncle fought the Japanese in hand-to   in the Paciﬁc and my aunt served as a nurse. hand combat     Sadly,   the Memorial Day Parade is the shortest of the those that   march past my house. It ends at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at a memorial  where dignitaries  say words of remembrance and lay wreaths. It may be the shortest parade, but it is of the most importance as we honor  those who put service before self.

   Two High School Seniors Lost Before Graduation  By Fred Towle  It is with great sadness that we covered a horrible car crash that happened     that took the lives of two high school seniors that were on May 20, 2017  about to graduate at the end of June. Edenilson Trejo was driving a 1995 Mitsubishi westbound in Manorville when he lost control and struck a tree.  He was transported  to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was being treated for serious    injuries. No status of his progress was available at press time.   Longwood high school senior Isaiah Perez was pronounced dead the  night of  the crash and on Saturday, William Floyd High School senior  Tyrese Ramseur passed away from injuries sustained from the crash.  Our hearts are broken for the families of these three young men. Our    are with them. thoughts and prayers As a parent of a high school senior who is about to graduate this June  my heart stops every time he gets behind the wheel of the car and leaves  the house.      At their age they believe they know everything. They believe they are  indestructible. They think nothing can stop them and they think they have

all the experience necessary to handle any situation. In fact, they truly know   nothing because they are just beginning their lives.    It will be some      time I am sure before we know what happened in this case. But as we prepare for the prom, awards nights, graduation and college,  let this tragedy remind all of us how short life is.   How careful one      must be when driving. Never drink and drive. Call a parent or friend. Never speed. Just because  the car speedometer says it can go to 130mph doesn’t mean you should drive that fast. Don’t drive if your tired. Don’t talk on the cell phone or text while driving.   Since  I am clearly guilty of these last two myself, I will try harder  to remember how quickly one stupid mistake can change your life in a     second.    Please keep the three families involved in this tragedy in your thoughts  and prayers. of our rich maritime heritage, the Incorporated Village of Port Jefferson in partnership with the New York Marine Trade Association and the Town of Brookhaven, presents the 6th Annual Port Jefferson Boater’s Maritime Festival June 3-4 2017. The festival will take place along the Port Jefferson Village harborfront speciﬁcally showcase one of Long Island’s most popular deep-water harbors.    2017 Memorial Day Celebrations: Honoring Those Who Served          

Photos By Ron Monteleone Despite terrible weather, thousands of Long Islanders turned out on Monday to participate in numerous Memorial Day parades and events throughout Brookhaven. The events were held to honor those men and women who have served to protect our nation. Ceremonies were held in Mastic, Centereach, Brookhaven and Middle Island. Events in Center Moriches, Mastic Beach and Medford were canceled because of weather. The South Shore Press is pleased to present the following photo display paying tribute to our soldiers.
