Picture of Success Byron "Hambone" Trowbridge was born at Mercy Hospital in Williston, North Dakota on June 23, 1956 to Helen and Roland "Ronnie" Trowbridge. Byron has one sister, Brenda Beyer of Minot, and two brothers, Larry of Williston, and Curtis of West Fargo. Byron attended Williston schools and graduated from Williston High in 1974. He worked as an orderly at the Mercy Hospital until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1975. He served at Fort Ord, CA, and Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, TX. Byron worked as a medic at Fitz Simmons Med Center in Aurora, CO, and was discharged from Ft. Carson, CO in May of 1978. Byron worked in the oil patch and went to Williston State College, where he earn his Associated Degree in carpentry in 1985. He acquired a job with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier on Aug. 26, 1996. Byron is a member of the Faith United Methodist Church (where he volunteers each year at their annual corned beef and cabbage dinner). He is a member of the American Legion. Byron's Grandma Henry taught him a great deal about gardening. A funny story: Grandma Henry didn't like elm trees, and told Byron that she "hated the elm tree" in the family's boulevard. When Byron's parents got home, the tree was gone. Byron is a true Renaissance Man. He likes to hunt, fish, and tan hides. He crochets afghans in the winter. He loves to spend time at his acreage in the country, and one of his great joys is gardening and giving away the produce from his garden harvest.

IT HAS BEEN 13 YEARS since Joel Allen Amundson dissappeared while hunting in the Missouri River bottoms south of Williston. 13 years. 4,748 days. Every year, Joel’s family puts a letter to him in a local paper (first the Williston Herald, now The Shopper). We want him and the community to know that we know Joel is still out there somewhere. We can’t say enough about the people of this community. From the volunteers who assisted with the search to the people who brought food and supplies to those who prayed for Joel, our family, and for our community, we have been touched in ways we never thought possible. On behalf of our family, we would like to say thank you to each and everyone of you. To Joel we would like to say this: come home. It no longer matters why you left. You have your reasons. Whatever those are, please know this. We forgive you. We love you. And we will never, ever stop searching for you. We will find you. If it takes every second of everyday for the next 40 years, as God is our witness we will never stop searching. Come home. It is time. Joel, we’ve suffered a number of losses as a family, and we’ve also had some pleasant additions. You’ve missed out on a lot Joel. Despite the changes, we are still resolute in our resolve to bring you home no matter what. You are loved and you are greatly missed. For 13 years, our family has written this letter as a family, not as individuals. To break from our standard way of doing this, I am going to address Joel as an individual. Brother, this is Jermey. I’ve missed you deeply for 13 years, and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you. I won’t stop searching Joel. Ever. I will track you down eventually. Look inside yourself. You know this. Come home. We almost lost Mom a few years ago to a hereditary health concern. Both Mom and Dad are doing great now, but they miss you so much. Grandma Marie and Grandpa Elroy are still with us, but we lost Grandma Blanche in late 2001. Duchessa and Dakota, your dogs, have also passed away. Mom and Dad have two more dogs, Prancer and Gaby, who act very similar to Duchess and Dakota. Joel, I know you would love them to pieces. I have moved again, and am now in South Dakota. I am engaged to a wonderful woman, and we want you to be in our wedding party. She has an interesting family, and we look forward to you getting to know all of them. So come home. Or I’ll continue telling stories about you. Most of them are 100% true. Most of them. I love you and I miss you, and again I will not stop searching. Ever. Until God calls me home I will search. And I will find you.Finally, thanks to all of you who have been so nice and supportive to my family and I. Thank you for the love you have shown us, and for the love you will show us.
