Picture of Success Winifred Schiele was born and raised near Wilton, ND. You could say she is North Dakota's "Coal Miner's Daughter" as she was born at the Macomber Coal Mine. Her family lived at the mine until Winifred was 12 years old. They moved to Bismarck where she attended and graduated from Bismarck High School. She worked at Provident Life and Bell Telephone before moving to Harvey, ND. Winifred married Gayle Wrangham in 1949. To this union 5 children were born. The marriage later ended in Divorce. The eldest child, Earl Wrangham is deceased. Neil Wrangham is the President of Bremer Bank in Perham, MN, Pam Monson lives in Cooperstown, ND and is a Veterinarian Assistant. Joan Thompson lives here in Williston and is the Office Manager for Black Hills Trucking. Darla Peterson owns an insurance company in Bowbells. Winifred has 11 grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren. Winifred was very involved in her children's activities. She was a boy scout club master, Sunday School Teacher and a big fan at all the sporting events they participated in. She feels one of her biggest accomplishments was raising her children and helping them to become the fine adults they have become. While in Harvey, she worked at Gambles and a Livestock Sales Ring in the accounting departments. In 1985 Winifred married Frank Schiele and moved to Flaxton, ND. Frank later passed away. She then moved to Williston and began working at the Williston Community Library and as a supervisor at one of the Williston College Dorms. She continues to hold both of these positions. Winifred's interests include dancing, playing cards, playing pool and getting together with family and friends. She is a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She belongs to Women of the Moose, Choraleers, Red Hats, Guys & Gal's, and Couples & Others. By the groups she is involved in you can tell that she doesn't spend much time sitting around at home. Winifred and Sidney both enjoy traveling. They have plans to travel to Branson, MO this summer, someday they would like to go back to Alaska and see some of the sights they missed the first time there. Winnie has helped here at the center in several ways over the years. She has volunteered in our kitchen helping prepare meals on wheels and congregate meals, helping to keep the pool room clean (Lord knows she spends enough time in there). She also is the music librarian for the center's Choraleers group and sometimes assists in the decorating of the center. What is noticed about Winnie is that she encourages others in the public to come to our center whether it be for friendship, meal or for the activities. For these reasons we honor Winifred Schiele as our Volunteer of the Month for February 2009!
