portfolio day

Styled Portfolio Day with The Scottish Wedding Hair & Makeup Directory August 2025.

Earlier this year in August, The Scottish Wedding Hair & Makeup Directory brought together creativity and collaboration in another beautifully curated Styled Portfolio Day at Broadscope Studio in Glasgow.
Designed as an opportunity for members to build their portfolios and connect with fellow artists, the day showcased the very best in Scottish bridal styling.
Members Donna from Alcheme and Keira from Alter Ego Hair Art, provided hair and makeup on the gorgeous Stephanie, producing serious Hollywood Glam vibes.

The stunning images were captured by the super talented Olesja from In the Name of Love Photography, perfectly balancing elegance and artistry and adding to the Hollywood Glam Vibes, the images speak for themselves.
We teamed up again with the fab Opus Couture who provided the beautiful outfits that elevated each look, working alongside Opus is always such a pleasure.
Gemma from Pretty Little Details crafted a romantic backdrop of sheer curtain backdrop and white pillars with subtle florals that tied the whole aesthetic together.
More than just a shoot, the Styled Portfolio Day was a celebration of community, creativity, and collaboration, a chance for members to share inspiration, grow their networks, and showcase their talent in a professional, supportive setting.
We are already working on our next Portfolio Day for February 2026

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started in the wedding Hair & Makeup Industry?
I'm Jenn, a Makeup Artist and owner of Jennifer Louise Studio in East Lothian. A little about me, I have loved makeup and beauty products since the age of 5 when I discovered my mum's lipsticks and it's never left me.
After getting married in 2010, I decided I wanted to train in Makeup Artistry so enrolled in an evening class to learn the basics and fundamentals of makeup which enabled me to get insured and start working.
Since then, I studied at The Academy of Makeup in Glasgow under the direction of Sara Hill, a fantastic Makeup Artist and continued my education with numerous masterclasses in developing my skill and knowledge
I never intended to become a Bridal Makeup Artist, I was more interested in Fashion and Editorial Makeup however kind of fell into Bridal makeup and since then have never looked back! I absolutely love the industry, working with brides is my passion and I feel very lucky to get to do something that I love and enjoy.

How many years have you been working as a wedding hair & makeup artist?
Since 2011 - time flys!
What services do you offer to Brides and their bridal parties?
As a Makeup Artist, I provide Bridal, Event makeup services and I absolutely love to teach makeup lessons. I opened my own Makeup and Beauty Studio earlier this year which gives the space and laid back environment to teach either on a 1:1 basis or in small groups and found these to be super popular. I also have a full beauty treatment list which is open and available to book, with my bridal clients receiving a special discount on booking
As built a network of suppliers and contacts which can be super useful at times!
As one of my Brides, I aim to deliver a high end service with down to the smallest detail I travel across Scotland and beyond to my brides to make them and their bridal parties up on the day. On booking with me, my brides receive a personalised link to their own portal within my CRM system where they can view their quotes, payments made, book trial appointments and all details of their day are held securely.
I have unlimited email contact with my brides in the run up to their wedding day and on hand for any help or advice as they may need. Having worked extensively in weddings over the years, I have built a network of suppliers and contacts which can be super useful at times!
what areas do you cover? and do you travel out of scotland for weddings?
I travel extensively across Scotland and the UK with some destination work taken. Main areas I do cover are Edinburgh and Lothians, Scottish Borders, Fife and across the Central Belt
what is your typical process when working with a bride, from the initial enquiry to the wedding day?
When enquiring with me, I will email you to confirm availability and attach my Bridal Brochure which gives you all you need to know about me and the services I offer. If requested, an initial quote will be sent with a personal link to my CRM system for you to view If you are happy to proceed with booking with me, a deposit is required to secure the date as held which is then redeemed against the final balance.
Once booked, you are welcome to book a trial with me which is held in my private makeup studio Ahead of your trial, I like to send my Brides a Bridal Trial Prep list which gives tips and information in helping them to get the absolute best from their trial. I offer trials Monday - Friday in my studio, I will occasionally travel out for a trial however a minimum number for this service will apply.
On the day of your trial, you are welcomed into my studio with a hot drink with the intention of helping you feel relaxed and at home We sit down to have a chat about what you are hoping for in your bridal makeup, discussing and noting details of your preferences and style. Your trial is very much time to give a chance to practice your makeup, making adjustments and creating a look that is perfect for your day. I like to offer up to 2 hours per trial appointment so nothing feels rushed and gives plenty of time to chat over all the details of your day
Following your successful makeup trial, all notes/products and pictures will be uploaded into your online profile on my CRM system. Generally, I will advise you of your lip colour/liner should you wish to buy it for touch ups on your wedding day A personalised link will also be emailed to you giving details of the products I used on your trial if you loved and wished to buy to add to your own makeup bag. There is also close communication with me in the lead up to your wedding day in which you can ask me any questions via email. Your final balance will be sent ahead of your wedding day and paid 7 days in advance of your wedding day so all is settled and set for the big day.
On the Day:
I will arrive at your venue/chosen location at the prearranged time as agreed in advance. Generally I arrive 15 mins before I start makeup services just to say hello and congratulations to you, set up my station and chair and ready to accept my first client
A wedding day scheduler will be emailed in advance of your day alongside the final invoice, this is a guide to help you ensure that each person knows when they're in the makeup chair and helps keep your day smooth and relaxed.
My main priority is my bride, I aim to deliver a luxury and calming service throughout your morning. I am on hand not only to make you and your bridal party look incredible but will assist with smaller details like helping to dress, fastening buttons/shoes or jewellery and provide a final finishing service such as touching up lipsticks or powdering just before you leave for your ceremony
I find that helping with the smallest details make such a difference.
what advice do you have for brides who are in the process of choosing their artist?
Look at reviews, recommendations and make contact with the artist that you are interested in booking. I will often jump on a Zoom call to have an initial chat with a Bride who is looking to book their supplier
It is so important that you feel comfortable with the person who is such a close part of your day
what are your favourite wedding venues in scotland and why?
I loved Lodge on Loch Lomond, Loch Lomond is one of my favourite places in Scotland. It's just beautiful.
what are your top 3 products in your kit?
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch liquid blushes are divine, Dior Star Filter and Patrick Ta cream and powder bronzer duos
how can brides get in touch with you?
You are welcome to contact me via my website at jenniferlouisestudio.co.uk or via email jenn@jenniferlouisestudio.co.uk.

We’re thrilled to announce that we’re now accepting Real Weddings and what better way to begin than with the beautiful woodland celebration of Kathryn & Andy, captured by Matthias Photography and featuring stunning hair by Bridal Hair by Natasha. Kathryn shares her experience of planning their magical day in the Scottish Highlands, along with her top tips for future brides-to-be
“Our first step was to find the perfect venue,” says Kathryn “We knew we wanted something a little different. We adore the Scottish Highlands and nature, so we chose a woodland venue that felt truly magical” Once the setting was decided, food came next on the list. “We wanted a relaxed, casual vibe, so opted for a BBQ buffet, it went down a treat on the beautiful summer’s day we had!”
Inspired by her husband’s snowy New Year’s Eve proposal, which Kathryn describes as “feeling like a scene from Narnia”

The couple decided on a whimsical, outdoor theme “That moment really set the tone for our whole wedding style,” she shares.
As they weren’t local to the area, Kathryn and Andy began by asking their venue for supplier recommendations.
“Our venue kindly shared a list of suppliers they’d worked with before, which was incredibly helpful,” Kathryn explains “From there, we researched each one online and chose those that felt the best fit for us.”

Venue: Wildwoodz Weddings “We were blown away by the beauty of the venue, especially the coppice area where we said our vows. The Wild West style reception with a real saloon bar was just fantastic!”
Photography: Matthias
Photography “We loved his natural, in-the-moment style, it really captured the essence of the day.”
DJ: Ashley Duncan “He came recommended by our venue and kept everyone dancing all night”
Bridal Hair & Makeup
For her bridal look, Kathryn chose Bridal Hair by Natasha for both herself and her bridal party
“I’d seen her previous work and loved the romantic styles she creates I went for a loose half-up, half-down look with soft curls and a little volume, it was just perfect.” Makeup was by Madeleine Hewitt, who gave Kathryn the glowing, natural bridal look she wanted “She created the perfect balance, fresh, radiant, and timeless.”
Kathryn recommends doing both hair and makeup trials: “You might have a vision in your head, but it can change once you see it in reality. My stylist asked all the right questions about my dress and theme, which really helped refine the final look And having a makeup trial meant we could make adjustments before the big day.”

“The hair and makeup team were amazing, we had such a laugh together! Honestly, the ‘getting ready’ part ended up being one of my favourite moments of the day,” Kathryn recalls.
Wildwoodz Weddings offered everything the couple wanted in one place. “We loved having both our ceremony and reception at the same venue,” says Kathryn “The woodland area where we said our vows was breathtaking, and the Westernstyle barn for the reception was so unique. It even had a kids’ area, and best of all, it was dog-friendly, so my parents’ golden retriever, Hudson, could join us too!”
To make the day feel intimate and personal, the couple kept their guest list to around 50 close family and friends “It made it easy to spend time with everyone,” says Kathryn. “We also named our tables after our favourite spots in the Scottish Highlands, a lovely nod to the places that mean so much to us.”
“Give yourself plenty of time! It’s so easy to get swept up in the excitement and rush to book everything, but taking two years meant I could really enjoy the planning process without the pressure,” Kathryn advises.
“And remember, it’s your day. Don’t get overwhelmed by other people’s opinions. Follow your own vision! For example, we went simple with our wedding cake, a Colin and Connie the Caterpillar from M&S, and everyone loved it!”
