In June, I spent a week in London attending the Beauty Business Short Course at Vogue College of Fashion, an experience that offered a fascinating insight into the world behind the beauty brands we see every day.

The course explored every aspect of the beauty industry, from how successful brands are built to the ways trends are forecast long before they reach our bathroom shelves It was a reminder that every product launch, campaign and collection is backed by month, sometimes years, of planning, research and creativity.

One of the highlights of the week was visiting the Condé Nast headquarters in London, where we heard from members of the Vogue team about their careers, experiences and advice for anyone hoping to work within the fashion and beauty industry

A WEEK AT VOGUE COLLEGE OF FASHION

Sitting inside the home of one of the world's most influential publications was something I never imagined I'd experience, and listening to people who work at Vogue every day was both inspiring and motivating.

As part of the course, we were challenged with a simulated industry project Working with Italian haircare brand Davines, we were tasked with creating a concept for a fictional Vogue editorial feature alongside an Instagram campaign.

Although the project wasn't for publication, it was designed to mirror the creative process used within the industry.

The experience became even more memorable when we visited the Davines headquarters in London, gaining a deeper understanding of the brand before beginning our creative brief.

Throughout the project we were guided by fashion photographer Rui Faria, whose advice on composition, storytelling and visual direction gave us a valuable insight into the creative process behind editorial photography.

Presenting our final campaign ideas directly to representatives from Davines was undoubtedly one of the biggest highlights of the week. Standing in front of a global beauty brand representative presenting our creative concepts felt surreal. While it was a simulated project, it provided a genuine taste of the collaborative process that happens between brands, creatives and publications

Perhaps one of the most rewarding parts of the week, however, was meeting fellow students from around the world. Everyone brought different experiences, perspectives and ambitions, and it was inspiring to learn alongside people who all shared a passion for beauty and creativity.

"The biggest lesson I took from Vogue College of Fashion was that successful beauty brands don't happen by chance. Every campaign, product and editorial story is carefully considered, and it's that same attention to detail I want Scottish Bridal Beauty to bring to every issue "

I returned to Scotland feeling energised, full of new ideas and with an even greater appreciation for the people and processes behind the beauty industry.

Experiences like this continue to shape the future of Scottish Bridal Beauty, allowing me to bring fresh inspiration, industry insight and a wider perspective back to the magazine and, ultimately, to the brides and beauty professionals within the industry

The Richmond Events in Maybole, Ayrshire provided the perfect canvas for bringing the vision to life for our styled shoot earlier this year.

With its striking vaulted ceiling, exposed timber beams and abundance of natural light, The Richmond offers couples a venue unlike any other. Originally built in 1924, the beautifully restored building retains its historic character while embracing a modern, flexible approach to weddings.

As an exclusive use, dry hire venue, couples have the freedom to create a celebration that reflects their own style, choosing their preferred caterers, suppliers and décor without being restricted by traditional wedding packages

Throughout the planning process, the experienced team is on hand to offer guidance and trusted supplier recommendations, allowing couples to enjoy complete creative freedom with expert support whenever they need it. (The Richmond)

For this editorial, our aim was to showcase how timeless bridal beauty, thoughtful styling and a beautiful venue can come together to create something truly unforgettable

A Real Love Story

Rather than working with professional models, we featured Mhairi and Callum, a real couple whose genuine connection brought warmth and authenticity to every image.

From quiet moments beneath the venue's timber beams to relaxed portraits surrounded by candlelit styling, their natural chemistry shines through, reminding couples that the most beautiful wedding photographs are often the ones that simply capture genuine emotion

Timeless Bridal Beauty

Bridal Hair by Morgan created an effortless, textured half updo that complemented the floral crown and the intricate lace detail of the dress. The style balanced softness with structure, allowing the look to remain polished while feeling relaxed

Jill Rowan focused on radiant, glowing skin, softly defined eyes and beautifully natural tones that enhanced Mhairi's features without overpowering them. The result was a timeless look that won't date, perfect for brides looking to feel like the very best version of themselves

Make Believe Events transformed the ceremony and reception spaces with elegant tablescapes, candlelight and lush greenery, creating an atmosphere that felt intimate yet luxurious, demonstrating just how versatile the space can be for couples planning anything from minimalist celebrations to lavish wedding days

Darcey Macguire Faux Flowers created a beautifully realistic bouquet and coordinating buttonhole The carefully designed faux florals added texture, softness and timeless elegance.

Mhairi wore a stunning gown from Dream Brides Irvine, featuring intricate floral lace, romantic illusion sleeves and a flowing train that looked spectacular against the polished wooden floors of The Richmond.

It was great working with Rhona Wilson Photography again, who documented the shoot with her signature light filled, editorial style.

Rowan Creative captured behindthe-scenes content and cinematic footage, bringing the editorial to life.

SEPHORA ARRIVES IN SCOTLAND

It has been one of the most anticipated beauty launches in recent years, and now Sephora has officially arrived in Scotland with two flagship stores opening in Edinburgh's St James Quarter and Glasgow's Silverburn
