Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started in the wedding Hair Industry?

I am Carrie and I have been a hairdresser for around 25 years now, Bridal has always been around my whole career and I’ve done weddings in the 90s right up until the present day but it’s only the last three years while running my own 1-1 Salon in Dalgety Bay that I have started to fully invest in the Bridal and wedding Industry.

What services do you offer to Brides and their bridal parties?

I cater for small and intimate weddings and larger bridal Parties, I always prefer to include a trial when I am booked for a wedding.

This gives me the chance to meet with the bride in person and really get a feel for what is expected with her hair and wedding Morning.

I love being part of a Brides special day, meeting the most wonderful people and I just love the positive energy. 42

what is your typical process when working with a bride, from the initial enquiry to the wedding day?

From the Initial booking until the wedding morning I am always in contact with my brides, answering any questions and just generally making a connection, which is always lovely

Most of my bookings now come via my website so that’s how the conversations are generally started, I like all of my brides to feel calm and comfortable chatting with me, I always offer phone call or video calls if they would like a chat face to face prior to their trial date.

what areas do you cover? and do you travel out of scotland for weddings?

I cover all Of Scotland/Uk and my dream of a destination wedding has still to be ticked off the list of my goals.

What advice do you have for brides who are in the process of choosing their wedding hair & makeup artist

My Advice for new brides searching for their ideal wedding stylists and MUA is really be clear on your vision, read reviews, look at their work, do you catch a good feel and vibe?

Go on recommendations, every hairstylist and make up artist has their own style and genre so be clear on what you are looking for and hopefully you find your ideal match.

what are your top 3 products in your kit?

My top three products in my kit right now are : volumise It powder !! This is a must for grip and hold with hair ups and waves

Silhouette gel Spray - Great spray for hair ups also, just a little dusting is fine.

Moroccan Oil Glimmer shine, smells Devine and leaves the most incredible shine and gloss on the hair.

Describe your business in a few sentences:

Nestled in the heart of the Angus countryside, Kinclune House & Estate is a boutique, exclusive-use wedding venue centred around a striking Scottish baronial mansion. Surrounded by a private estate, it features a charming Victorian steading courtyard and two characterful event spaces

We specialise in relaxed, multi-day weddings, offering couples the opportunity to gather their closest friends and family and celebrate together in their own private wedding village

What makes your venue unique?

Kinclune offers a truly immersive experience, where exclusive use, on-site accommodation, and the thoughtful layout of the estate come together seamlessly.

Rather than simply booking a venue, couples create a shared experience across the house, courtyard, and cottages a private wedding village entirely their own.

With accommodation for up to 28 guests on-site, alongside carefully selected local options nearby, celebrations feel both intimate and expansive.

Set against the peaceful backdrop of the Angus Glens, the estate offers a rare sense of privacy, calm, and escape

What kind of couples do you attract?

We naturally attract couples looking for something more relaxed, personal, and distinctive than a traditional hotel wedding. Many are drawn to the idea of extending their celebration over several days, creating meaningful time with loved ones rather than a single event.

The concept of a private wedding village where guests can stay, celebrate, and unwind together is at the heart of what appeals most.

What was the vision behind the photoshoot?

The vision was to showcase Kinclune’s natural, understated beauty, allowing the setting, soft light, and rich textures of the house and courtyard to speak for themselves

We wanted the shoot to feel effortless and authentic capturing a sense of relaxed elegance and illustrating how weddings here can feel both refined and deeply personal within an intimate, private setting.

Favourite part of the shoot / standout moment?

What stood out most was how naturally everything came together, particularly within the courtyard and inside Kinclune House, where the light and atmosphere created something truly special. It beautifully reflected the essence of a relaxed, intimate celebration the feeling of being gathered together in your own private space

Anything else you'd like to add?

At Kinclune House & Estate, weddings are about more than just a single day they’re about creating time and space to truly connect It’s about slowing down, making meaningful memories, and savouring each moment. WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR HAIR AND MAKE-UP TRIAL (AND HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT!)

Booking your hair and make-up trial is one of the most exciting steps in your wedding journey. It’s the moment where your vision starts to come to life and where you get a real feel for how you’ll look and feel on the big day.

But here’s the thing: the more prepared you are, the more you’ll get out of your appointment

Let’s talk about how to make it a success.

Come With a Vision (Even a Loose One!)

You don’t need to have everything perfectly figured out, but having some idea of what you like will make a huge difference. Clients who arrive with no direction at all often leave feeling unsure- not because the stylist hasn’t done a good job, but because there was no clear starting point.

Your stylist wants you to feel your absolute best, and they’re more than happy to take direction Whether that’s “I love a bronzed look,” or “I prefer my eyes softer,” don’t be afraid to speak up.

Inspiration Pictures Are Your Best Friend

If you take one piece of advice from this post, let it be this: bring inspiration photos.

Even if you have lots of different styles saved, bring them all It’s far easier for your stylist to understand your vision visually than through words alone. Terms like “natural,” “soft glam,” or “smokey” can mean completely different things to different people Pictures keep you both on the same page.

For make-up especially, I highly recommend bringing:

A photo of your inspiration look

A photo of how you usually wear your make-up

Why? Because sometimes inspiration images (especially from Pinterest or Instagram) feature much heavier make-up than you might realise.

If you’re not used to wearing a lot, it can feel like a shock Showing your usual look helps your stylist tailor things like foundation coverage, eye intensity, and overall finish to suit you.

Choose Inspiration That Looks Like You

This is a big one that people often overlook.

If you’re blonde with blue eyes, look at inspiration photos of people with similar colouring The same goes for darker complexions, brunettes, redheads, everyone. It’s not about copying someone else’s features, but about seeing how tones, colours, and textures work on similar skin tones and hair types.

Hair is especially important here. Blonde hair often appears more textured and dimensional in photos because of its multi-tonal nature. Darker hair, on the other hand, can sometimes look flatter in images, not because it is, but because of how light reflects off it.

If you have darker hair and want that extra dimension, your stylist may suggest:

Adding clip-in extensions

Incorporating lowlights or subtle texture

These little tweaks can make a big difference in the final look.

The Foundation of Everything: Your Base

Great hair and make-up doesn’t start in the chair, it starts weeks (or even months) before.

Hair Care

Healthy hair is key. Regular trims and using good-quality products will make styling easier and more effective. You don’t need to spend a fortune, but look for products that are free from sulphates and silicones where possible

A few simple tips:

Cleanse your scalp every few washes, but not too often (you don’t want to strip natural oils)

Shampoo your scalp only, not your ends

Condition your ends based on the result you want (think: shine, thickness, smoothness)

A good rule? Shampoo for the hair you have, condition for the hair you want.

Skin Care

For make-up, your skin is everything Ideally, you should start a skincare routine at least six months before your wedding.

At minimum:

Cleanse and tone regularly

Moisturise daily

Gently exfoliate once a week

If you want to go a step further, treatments like facials or dermaplaning can really elevate your skin.

Think of your skincare like a gym membership. You won’t see results just by signing up You have to actually put in the work The same applies here. The better your skin, the better your make-up will sit and last.

What Happens During the Trial?

Your trial is all about exploration

It’s not necessarily the exact final look you’ll have on the day. Your stylist may:

Try different techniques

Adjust products

Suggest tweaks you hadn’t considered

For hair, you might notice it feels a little different to how it would on the day. Often, less product is used during trials so the stylist can easily reshape and adjust styles This can sometimes mean a bit more frizz or movement, but don’t panic, that’s completely normal

Between your trial and the big day, your stylist may even refine things further, finding better products, tools, or techniques to perfect your look.

Trust the Process

The purpose of a trial is to figure out what you do and don’t like. It’s a collaborative experience.

And remember, you chose your stylist for a reason. Trust their expertise, be open to suggestions, and communicate honestly

This month, I want to shift the focus from pressure to support

Because while most brides carefully select their venue, photographer, and planner, very few stop to ask an equally important question

Planning a wedding is often treated as a logistical experience timelines, checklists, and beautifully curated details And while those elements matter, they only tell part of the story.

Behind every well-planned wedding is a woman navigating decisions, expectations, emotions, and change.

This is why your wedding support team should go beyond just the practical

Yes, your planner plays a vital role in bringing your vision to life managing the details, coordinating suppliers, and ensuring everything runs seamlessly Their focus is the event itself.

But there is also space and a real need for support that centres you.

Because the truth is, you are not just planning a wedding… you are stepping into a new chapter of who you are becoming.
