We have some incredible news to share with our colleaguesBarnsley Hospital Charity’s Breast Care Appeal has successfully reached its fundraising target of £250,000 in less than 12 months, meaning we can now move forward with plans to transform the Breast Care Unit and enhance the experience for patients and families.
This achievement belongs to the whole Barnsley Hospital community. Over the past year, colleagues have supported the the campaign, encouraging fundraising, joining events, spreading the word and helping us show our supporters the difference their generosity can make. Thanks to the amazing efforts of our supporters, alongside the commitment of our hospital teams, the appeal has united our community behind one shared goal: creating a more welcoming, comfortable and supportive environment for everyone who uses the Breast Care Unit.
Thanks to ongoing fundraising efforts, the generosity shown has also created the opportunity to go further, with additional enhancements planned including interactive artwork and improved patient journey information to help

Barnsley10k superstars
Over 80 super supporters took on this year’s Barnsley 10k in support of all parts of the hospital.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part and braved the heat on one of the toughest 10k routes in the country - those hills!
Our current total fundraising is over £21,000 which is absolutely brilliant, beating our 2025 record of just over £15,000!

Barnsley Hospital Charity supports all teams across the hospital. For the upcoming months the charity team will be focusing their fundraising efforts on two very special appeals supporting the Rainbow Room and the Care without Walls project.
Rainbow Room
We are proud to launch our first mini appeal to raise funds for our Rainbow Room at Barnsley Hospital.
The Rainbow Room is a bereavement suite designed for parents who have suffered a baby loss. The room offers a quiet space for parents to spend time with their baby as a family and enabling them to form bonds and memories.
Fundraising will complement the works being undertaken by Barnsley Facilities Services to develop the existing room into a suite for parents and families. Consultation has also been undertaken to find a new name for the new suite.

Bereavement Midwives
Ellie Brown and Michelle Young are leading by example with their fundraising efforts.
Ellie has worked as a midwife at Barnsley Hospital for 16 years, caring for families through some of the most precious and difficult moments of their lives. Now, alongside her partner Matt, she is fundraising to help transform the Rainbow Room into a larger, more modern and supportive environment creating a peaceful, homely space for families who need it most.
Michelle, who has previously skydived, is leading a team of dragon boat racers in our third Dragon Boat event at Manvers Lake on Sunday 13 September.
CareWithoutWallsproject
A very special project is coming to fruition thanks to the hard work of Sara Andrews, Cancer Nursing Lead and Becky Hoskins, Deputy Director of Nursing, Midwifery and AHPs.
Sara shared: “Our plan for the project is all wards will have a last days of life care cubicle which will transform the space in the first cubicle on each ward and a relatives' end of life care room with a sofa bed and drink facilities and where possible a refrigerator. Soft colours with nice touches will be the style we are aiming for.

“This is all about the environment for patients and families - and striking the balance between 'clinical and comfort'. We plan to replicate hospice style environments. We know this will help to create a calming environment.”
We know some areas have made some really nice changes already and identified areas for families and we will build on this work. Sara will be liaising with teams across the trust and Phase 1 will start with Acute Medical Unit in the coming weeks.
