Staff Survey The 2026 edition will be launched later this month Keep an eye out for the launch of this year’s Staff Survey. Make your voice heard. Bob Kirton, Interim Deputy Chief Executive, said:
Each of you plays a vital role in our ‘whole hospital team’. The annual NHS Staff Survey is one of the most important ways you can tell us about your experience of working here. It gives you the opportunity to share your views on your role, our organisation and the wider NHS. Every response helps us understand what it is like to work here, what’s going well and where change is needed. The more of you who take part, the more representative this will be.

Huge thanks to everyone who took part in the new portrait exhibition Faces of Barnsley. The project is proudly displayed in Barnsley Town Hall capturing a variety of residents from across the borough. Colleagues and staff now have their photos showcased on site.
Thank you to all of the participants who volunteered their time to support the Faces of Barnsley project. You can visit the exhibition on site in the library at the Education Centre.
IT Professionals Day This week, the Trust celebrated our amazing IT colleagues as part of IT Professionals Day! Our dedicated teams work hard to keep our digital services running. From supporting colleagues and maintaining systems to driving innovation, our IT professionals play a vital role in delivering safe, effective patient care every day.
Neonatal duo break new ground Congratulations to Natalie Broadhead and Jade Baldwin who have become the first Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPs) at Barnsley Hospital, marking an important milestone for the Trust's Neonatal Unit. Balancing advanced academic study with busy clinical responsibilities, both practitioners demonstrated exceptional dedication, resilience and commitment throughout their training journey.
Their achievement reflects Barnsley Hospital's investment in advanced clinical practice and the future of neonatal care. Supported by consultant supervisors throughout the programme, Natalie and Jade are already making a valuable contribution to patient care, safety and family experience. Congratulations to Natalie and Jade on this fantastic achievement and on becoming the Trust's first ANNPs!

Rebecca is the latest Cavell winner Congratulations to Healthcare Assistant Rebecca Faxon for her Cavell Award! This is recognition of Rebecca's exceptional dedication to both dementia care and mental health advocacy. Her outstanding knowledge and compassionate approach ensure people living with dementia receive person-centred care that respects their dignity, individuality and needs. She consistently goes above and beyond to support patients, families and colleagues,
sharing her expertise and helping others deliver the highest standards of care. Rebecca brings kindness, empathy and professionalism to everything she does.

Antenatal and Perinatal team Despite increasing pressures, they consistently provide safe, compassionate and patient-centred care for women and families. The team works collaboratively to overcome challenges, support one another and maintain excellent standards of care. Their dedication is reflected in positive patient feedback and a reduction in complaints. By embodying the Trust’s values of

Ward 24
The Ward 24 team is recognised for the exceptional care, compassion and support they provided to a patient and their family during end-of-life care. Throughout a difficult and emotional time, staff ensured the patient received the dignity and comfort they deserved while keeping loved ones informed and supported. Their kindness, empathy and outstanding communication
brought reassurance and comfort when it was needed most. By recognising the unique challenges faced by families during such moments, the team made a lasting difference. Their professionalism, compassion and dedication make them truly deserving of recognition.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) This project aimed to establish a structured, peerled support process for colleagues following acute distressing events, addressing the lack of an early intervention pathway for staff wellbeing. A Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) programme was implemented using evidence from healthcare, police and military settings. Between April 2025 and July 2026, 277 colleague referrals were received following 24 distressing events, with 14% progressing to a TRiM assessment.

The service is available to all staff regardless of role or grade and has received positive feedback, helping colleagues reflect on their wellbeing and access timely support after difficult experiences. Read more about this and other QI projects on the Hub
