Welcome It seems a long time since I wrote my first introduction to The Roses’ brochure back in 2006, and it feels particularly poignant to now be writing my last.

Stop Press! We are delighted to have received funding from Arts Council England to support the pilot of our first ever live streaming event, which will allow us to broadcast into homes, schools and organisations and through any mobile device or computer. This pioneering mobile technology will be trialled for the first time on Thursday 2 March at the performance of I AM BEAST by Sparkle And Dark Theatre Company. We hope that in time many of our productions will offer the opportunity to watch online for those that are unable to come to the theatre for the live performance or the chance to view a performance where tickets have sold out. Macbeth The Roses Youth Theatre presents a fresh perspective on Shakespeare’s classic tragedy about power and ambition. Within the big top tent of a circus freakshow, ring master Macbeth seeks control of the troupe after a chance encounter with three fortune tellers. With clowns, acrobats and freaks from the darkest reaches at his disposal, blood will have blood and a barrel of laughs.

Folk Music

Steve Tilston & Jez Lowe Steve Tilston and Jez Lowe are two of the UK’s finest singers, songwriters and guitarists. They have performed together successfully on previous occasions but this is the first time they have written songs together, a radical change for two such singular artists. The title of their upcoming album, The Janus Game, takes its name from the ancient Roman god, Janus, the god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, doorways, passages, and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces on the same body but pointing in opposite directions, since he looks to the future and to the past. A baby chick is born and thinks the sky is falling down. On the way to tell the King, she meets Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky & Turkey Lurkey, but there’s a shocking surprise! Chicken Licken grows up to be the Little Red Hen and asks her friends to help her make bread, but no one wants to play! Mixed into this recipe of food, puppets and music is the story of Little Red Hen and the sly Foxy Loxy. Will she outwit him and save her stuffing? This one-person show is a trilogy of classic tales from the Ladybird books - Chicken Licken, The Little Red Hen and The Fox and the Hen. Starting as a baking demonstration, the show rapidly becomes the adventures of a growing chick and her encounters with a hungry fox.

Feast Of Fiddles Tweedy’s Lost Feast Of Fiddles embarks on its Property 24th annual tour to coincide with the release of their seventh CD. The band that has been variously likened to a “group of geography teachers” or “Bellowhead with bus passes!” doesn’t seem to be slowing down. It all started at a folk club but has become a folk-rock institution.

Typically, fiddlers Peter Knight (Steeleye Span), Chris Leslie (Fairport Convention), Phil Beer (Show of Hands), Brian McNeill (Battlefield Band), Ian Cutler (Bully Wee), Tom Leary (Lindisfarne) and Garry Blakeley (Band of Two) add the large range of fiddle playing styles to the rock back-line of guitars, keyboards, sax and accordion – all held together by legendary drummer Dave Mattacks. “Britain’s fiddling supergroup” Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2

Not knowing who he is anymore, Tweedy gets a job in a Lost Property Office to try and find himself. The consequences of attempting to run the office are hilarious - the lost property in his possession seems to develop lives of their own and allied with his own body rebelling against him he is constantly prevented from answering the ringing telephone. In this one man, family show, Tweedy illustrates an impressive repertoire of comedic talents which have made him one of the most respected and popular clowns the country currently has to offer. “The best clown I have ever seen” The Independent

Gerry Cross The Mersey Be immersed in this musical journey through the life and times of one of the greatest 60s icons - musician and television personality Gerry Marsden. This authentic show takes you from Frank’s early recordings to his rise, fall, notorious connections, and collaborations that assured his rise again to international stardom, in a spectacular career spanning 70 years.

Noel & Gertie is a warm and witty musical comedy based on the legendary friendship and professional collaboration of actor, playwright and songwriter Noel Coward and the alluring and charismatic actress Gertrude Lawrence.

Californian songwriter Corinne West is a poet, a tunesmith, a visionary and an utterly stellar performer. Her music evokes the eternal stories of mystic troubadours, while speaking to the sonic sensibilities of a modern audience. A very well-established figure on the acoustic roots scene, West has recorded five critically-acclaimed albums and has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe. Her distinctive style is marked by lush vocals, pristine guitar, and bold lyricism that reflects grit, discerning optimism and a far-reaching reverence for space and time.

Frank Cognoscenti assumes the persona of Frank down to the finest detail. He’s a natural double with the uncanny ability to convey the most subtle vocal nuance - all with a dry and mischievous sense of fun honed from years of performing worldwide.

A major revival of Sheridan Morley’s hit play that originally ran in the West End for nine years, it is affectionately crafted from diaries and letters between a pair who epitomised an era of sophistication and elegance.

The concert includes a specially arranged collection of Sinatra’s biggest hits including I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Fly Me to the Moon, Come Fly with Me, My Way and New York alongside stunning and captivating set piece recreations of other pivotal collaborations, tours, TV specials and landmark concerts rarely heard in mainstream productions.

Featuring songs, sketches and snippets of scenes, the production has the entrancing effect of accurately portraying the relationship of this extraordinary duo, inseparable until Gertrude’s premature death, which left a large void in ”the Master’s” life.

Opera Cocktail Classics shaken with wit, stirred with drama and served with a contemporary twist. Olivier Award winning OperaUpClose present some of opera’s best loved arias, duets and ensembles in a fun, modern setting. Performed in witty new English translations and beautifully acted in the company’s engaging, intimate style, this evening includes Musetta’s aria from La Bohème, Carmen’s sexy Habanera, and the drinking song from La Traviata. They were, of course, Coope Boyes and Simpson, and the album was Funny Old World. 24 years later, they have released what will be their final studio album. Coda is a collection of songs, mainly self-penned or drawn from the tradition, covering issues such as refugees, Iraq and climate change. With an anger undimmed and wry humour firmly intact, Coope Boyes and Simpson are returning to their roots and completing the circle that started with Funny Old World.

Last Tango in Little Grimley (by David Tristram) Membership of the local amdram society has dwindled to four and the audiences aren’t much bigger. If they don’t come up with some rent money soon, they’re going to be thrown out. “There’s only one thing that sells tickets these days” argues the Chairwoman. “Sex!” But how will the locals react to the promise of a sizzling sex comedy? A Jolly Sinister Jape (by Elliot Strange) This is Famous Five fun for adults as Stubby, Ophelia, Biffy and Fatty find themselves trapped in a mysterious house during a thunderstorm. Is this someone’s idea of a jape? Or is something far more sinister going on?

Miranda Sykes, the acclaimed singer and bassist with ‘Show of Hands’ is returning to her roots. After a career spanning over 20 years, during which time she has played with many of the top musicians and singers within the folk world, she will be touring as she started out: one woman, one bass, and one guitar. Borrowed Places is a project that draws its inspiration primarily from the songs and landscapes of her native Lincolnshire but seen through the eyes of someone who has lived away for many years. The themes are not specific; the land changes, it grows, it shrinks, it adapts and it resists but most of all it lives and breathes. With her sensational voice, Miranda interprets the soul of the land and takes her audience on a journey that resonates with us all, and it is one you won’t want to miss.

Strictly Come Dancing’s Pasha Kovalev and his fantastic dancers are touring the UK again with their completely brand new show. Expect all of your favourite dances, stunning costumes, great music, chat and fun for all the family. Pasha won Strictly Come Dancing with Caroline Flack in 2014 and has scored more 10’s than any other professional dancer since the series began. This is your chance to watch him live! Dominic Kirwan In Concert With Lisa Stanley Firmly established as one of Ireland’s greatest ever entertainers, Dominic Kirwan hits the road again with a brand new show. Impossible to pigeon hole since he broke on to the circuit as a professional singer, Dominic from the County of Tyrone, where some of Ireland’s greatest names in music have come from, has been entertaining professionally since 1989. Accompanying Dominic on the 2017 tour will be Lisa Stanley, one of Ireland’s top female vocalists and star of TV’s The Lisa Stanley Show. Dominic and Lisa bring their own inimitable style to the vast and rich musical heritage of their homeland, mixed with their unique quality as versatile entertainers, and perform a selection of various musical styles, including, pop, country and rock ‘n’ roll.

The Quo Experience is a band with an impressively experienced line-up including Shaun Michaels (as Francis Rossi) and Dave Crawte (as Rick Parfitt), who have both featured in quality Quo tribute acts in the past. Shaun and Dave have spent years studying every detail of Rossi and Parfitt’s looks, playing styles and stage performances to make sure they are both as close to the real thing on stage as is possible. The Quo Experience also features Graham Partridge, who captures the magic of Andy Bown’s playing and vocals perfectly, Alex Bayou, a brilliant ‘Matt Letley’ style drummer, and Brian ‘Brino’ Smith on bass, a well-known and respected ‘Rhino’-style player and performer on the Quo tribute circuit for over ten years.

The Manfreds The ‘60s group Manfred Mann is now considered one of the finest and most respected bands from that era. Their numerous hits were R&B based with an undercurrent of jazz - a very unusual but winning combination of style and substance. But as we surge forward, grappling for university places and promotions, what are we leaving behind? And from our ladder in the stars, if we look back, what do we see? Mobile is The Paper Birds’ second show in a trilogy about class in modern Britain. An intimate 40-minute theatre show set in a caravan, based on interviews conducted in communities across the UK, exploring our sense of home, belonging, aspiration, and the realities of social mobility. London Welsh Male Choir With Bredon School Formed in 1902, The London Welsh Male Choir have been proud to perform their spine-tingling four part harmonies in some of the world’s best known concert venues. With a line-up of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, a rhythm section and singers, the Nick Ross Orchestra faithfully recreate the Big Band sound of the 1940s. The NRO library features hits from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey, Ted Heath, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, Les Brown, Benny Goodman, Ray Noble, and Stan Kenton among others. Alongside our team all Youth Theatre members develop confidence through drama, voice coaching and movement. The Roses hosts the youth theatre’s main performance each year, affording members the opportunity to experience first-hand the inner workings of a professionally run venue. We continue to offer nationally recognised Arts Award qualifications and are regular participants in the National Theatre’s Connections festival, Strike A Light Theatre Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.

A postage charge of £1 per booking applies if you wish to have your tickets posted to you. You can avoid this charge by collecting your tickets from the Box Office. A voluntary contribution will be requested with each transaction to help secure the future of The Roses.

Reservations & Refunds

Reservations: Payment is required for reserved tickets within 3 days of the reservation, or 3 days prior to the date of the event, whichever is the soonest. Any reserved tickets not paid for by this time will be released. Exchanges: At our discretion, tickets can be exchanged for a different performance of the same event. An administration fee of £2 per ticket applies. We do not offer exchanges on tickets for different events. Refunds: We do not offer refunds on any tickets unless the event is cancelled or postponed. If you are unable to attend a performance, and the performance is sold out, we will offer to resell your tickets and credit your account. Members may be credited on performances that they are unable to attend provided we are notified prior to the event.

Only food and drinks purchased on the premises can be consumed whilst at The Roses. We reserve the right to refuse admission to intoxicated or disorderly people.
