Gagarine (12A)
Probably the most inspired and original film you will see this year, Gagarine lets us into the imagination of 16-year-old Yuri, who is named after the famous soviet cosmonaut who opened the state funded housing project where he lives. When plans for the demolition of the block - which is home to dozens of immigrant families - are leaked, space obsessed Yui reaches for the stars and sets out to save the building. Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings (12A) Marvel’s most audacious release since Black Panther puts Asian superheroes at the forefront of a spectacular martial arts laden adventure. After living the good life in San Francisco, Kung-Fu master Shang-Chi must confront the past he left behind when he is drawn back into the web of his father’s mysterious Ten Rings organization.

The Green Knight (15)
Based on the timeless Arthurian legend, this fantasy epic tells the story Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom.
The Many Saints of Newark (12A)
The long gestating Sopranos prequel is finally here, and it’s been worth the wait. Scripted by series creator David Chase, it loses none of its power, panache, and humour as a standalone piece. James Gandolfini’s son Michael proves to be the perfect choice to play the young Tony Soprano in a story that focuses on his relationship with his mentor.
Sweetheart (15)
AJ is an awkward 17-year-old who reluctantly joins her family for a seaside holiday. When she discovers the campsite doesn’t even have Wi-Fi, it promises to be the worst week of her life. That is, until she lays her eyes on the resident lifeguard Isla and is instantly smitten. Featuring a tremendous lead performance from newcomer Nell Barlow, this crowd pleasing coming of age tale explores sexual awakening and family dynamics with heart and humour.
Balloon (12A)
On the spectacular Tibetan plateau we meet Darje and Drolkar, who live in a remote shepherding community. Their harmonious life is upset when unruly sons take their last remaining condom and blows it up like a balloon. What started as a cheeky misdemeanour turns into a full blown ethical dilemma, when Droklar becomes pregnant. With China’s one child policy and Buddhist ideals of reincarnation, they face both a ruinous fine and community scorn.

Ron's Gone Wrong (PG)
A timely animated adventure telling the story of Barney, a socially awkward middle-schooler and Ron, his new walking, talking, digitally-connected device, which is supposed to be his 'Best Friend out of the Box.' Last Night In Soho (CTBC) Edgar Wright’s latest film combines a wonderfully vivid depiction of swinging sixties London, a compelling cold case whodunnit and eerie (and be warned, bloody) psychological horror to great effect. The starry cast includes several veteran British actors who were in their heyday in the 60s, including the late Diana Rigg as the mysterious landlady to Eloise, who has moved to London to pursue her fashion career.
